Gospel Mark 8:27-35 Jesus and his disciples left for the villages round Caesarea Philippi. On the way he put this question to his disciples, ‘Who do people say I am?’ And they told him. ‘John the Baptist,’ they said ‘others Elijah; others again, one of the prophets.’ ‘But you,’ he asked ‘who do you say I am?’ Peter spoke up and said to him, ‘You are the Christ.’ And he gave them strict orders not to tell anyone about him. And he began to teach them that the Son of Man was destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and to be put to death, and after three days to rise again; and he said all this quite openly. Then, taking him aside, Peter started to remonstrate with him. But, turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said to him, ‘Get behind me, Satan! Because the way you think is not God’s way but man’s.’ He called the people and his disciples to him and said, ‘If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross and follow me. For anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it.’ Recently Deceased: ANNIVERSARIES: ST. Gospel Mark 8:27-35

Jesus and his disciples left for the villages round Caesarea Philippi.

Because the way you think is not God’s way but man’s.’

He called the people and his disciples to him and said, ‘If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross and follow me. For anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it.’

Across the Diocese of Nottingham, we have a number of vacancies that we need to fill. Bishop Patrick is inviting people to come forward who are willing to become Foundation Governors in our Catholic schools. If you have the commitment and desire to become a governor now or in the near future, we would be delighted to hear from you. More information about being a governor is available from the Diocesan Education Service Governor Support Team, (01332 293833) or from the Diocesan Education Service website http://www.dioceseofnottingham.uk/education where you find a ‘Self-Nomination’ form which we would encourage you to complete and return to us. The parish community at St Joseph’s invite all to join them in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the blessing and official opening of the present St Joseph’s church. We begin on Tuesday 18th September, 7.30 pm, with a meditative evening of prayer, accompanied by the music of Taize, to which all are welcome. The practical and prayerful preparations during the week (including a flower workshop and a school mass) lead us to the weekend of 23rd and 24th September when the church and chapel will be open for visitors throughout both days. The church opens on Saturday at 11.00 am with an organ recital (11.45-12.30) by Iain Harvey (ATCL FISOB) and there will be additional live music later in the day from choirs and musicians. The halls will be open for refreshment throughout the day, along with the garden, Watermead Shop and Centre, there will be displays of parish life from over the past 50 years and parishioners ready to guide and share memories. Saturday concludes with Benediction at 5.15 pm, followed by the usual parish mass. Sunday begins with mass at 10.30 am followed by refreshments and continuing the welcome from Saturday to all who would like to come. The church, chapel, halls, garden, Watermead Shop and Centre will again be open throughout the day and there will be ‘May Queen’ procession in the afternoon led by the children and music during the afternoon. The day concludes with Benediction at 5.15 pm, followed by the usual parish mass. The events are open to all who would like to come and share the celebrations anda full programme will be posted on the parish website http://www.stjoseph-leicester.btck.co.uk/ this weekend. say the same of the imagination, which is closely connected with self-

love. Antonio Rosmini
