God encourages Habakkuk to live a righteous and just life. • Habakkuk was a prophet of God. • Habakkuk was astounded to hear that God planned to use a wicked nation to judge the Israelites, the chosen people of God. • God reassured Habakkuk that Babylon would also be judged just as all nations and people will be judged. • After hearing of God’s plans, Habakkuk was in awe of Him and prayed for His mercy. • What were Habakkuk’s complaints to God? • Have you ever felt like you didn’t understand why God allowed something “unfair” to happen? • How can we know we belong to God? Young children often have a very strong sense of justice and tend to get very emotional when they feel they have been wronged. Be sympathetic and remind your child that he belongs to God, who has his best in mind. Discuss with your child the injustices she sees in the world around her. What areas move her? Encourage her and help her think of some ways she can be a light in those dark areas. Work alongside her as she finds her identity in Christ. date: Just for Fun Talk with your kids about things they feel are unjust or unfair. Help them to understand that God is fair and just. Although things aren’t always just and fair here on earth, God will make all things right and new. Remind your kids we live in a broken world. Talk about how God might use your family to help change some things that feel broken. Read Habakkuk 3. Share that even though God’s plans involving the Babylonians surprised Habakkuk, he still trusted God. Habakkuk knew God was just and in control. © 2013 David C Cook.
