This announcement has come much earlier than expected, so understandably, our school and many of our families are rushing to implement the new guidelines to ensure a smooth and safe transition to normal school operations next week. All families should now have received through Class Dojo and SchoolBytes a copy of the Return to full time face-to-face learning guidelines that was released by the Department of Education. To assist with making sense of all the changes, here are some answers to frequently asked questions: Students are expected to return to school unless they are unwell or have a medical certificate to support their absence. This includes students who are staying home because a family member is deemed at risk. Teachers will not be providing simultaneous online learning from Week 5. If your child is working from home, please contact your teacher to arrange suitable work. School grounds are still only open for essential visitors. Parent helpers, reading groups and scripture are not permitted to take place. Canteens are permitted to open at Principal discretion. We will consider the logistical and financial viability of opening the canteen. Parents are to remain in the Green Zone during pick up and drop off, but please ensure social distancing guidelines are adhered to as our numbers increase. NSW Health advises that students do not need to follow physical distancing guidelines, but good hygiene practices are essential. Teachers and staff will continue to practice physical distancing guidelines. There will be no assemblies, excursions or contact sport. Students are also not permitted to drink from the bubblers. Please send them to school with a bottle. Extra cleaning hours and hygiene products have been provided to the school. Semester One Reports Families will be receiving a Semester 1 student report. It will be a reduced format report because of the limited opportunity teachers have had to conduct consistent assessments across all of the key learning areas. There will be no A-E grading provided, but teachers will write a literacy, numeracy and general comment that reflects the work and effort they have seen from the students. From the Desk of the Principal

Return to full time teaching and learning

The Premier and Minister for Education have this week announced a return to full time teaching and learning, commencing Monday 25 May (Week 5).

To assist with making sense of all the changes, here are some answers to frequently asked questions:

Students are expected to return to school unless they are unwell or have a medical certificate to support their absence.

Semester One Reports

Families will be receiving a Semester 1 student report. It will be a reduced format report because of the limited opportunity teachers have had to conduct consistent assessments across all of the key learning areas. There will be no A-E grading provided, but teachers will write a literacy, numeracy and general comment that reflects the work and effort they have seen from the students. We are still finalising the timeline for the release of reports to families.

A Redbank brekkie!

I would like to extend our gratitude to the team at Redbank for the delicious thank you breakfast they provided for all the staff this morning. In recognition of the wonderful work the teachers and support staff have done throughout this COVID period, Redbank organised Bel’s Churros & Chorizos and Kean as Beans Mobile Café to provide staff with hot coffee, bacon and egg rolls, porridge, churros and a delicious selection of sweets. I know the staff were deeply appreciative of this gesture. I would also like to acknowledge that the food, coffee and service was magnificent too. Thank you, it means a lot!

Casual employment opportunities

Our cleaning contractors are seeking to recruit casual cleaners to support the enhanced and day-clean across our schools. If you or someone you know may be interested in this work, please contact our contractor Broadspectrum via email to [email protected] for further information.

RETURNING TO SCHOOL Some of our families have borrowed a device for their children whilst they have been learning from home. When students return to school full time it would be appreciated if the devices are returned as a matter of urgency. They will be required for lessons at school. BUSWAYS With the recent announcement of social distancing on bus services, Busways wants to clarify that school services are not affected and will not have limited capacity. School services will continue to operate as normal, with no student to be left behind. NSW Health advice is that children are at lower risk of contracting COVID-19. Transport for NSW and Busways have increased cleaning measures on board bus services and will continue to monitor transport usage to support students travelling safely to and from school. Our policy is that no school student will be left behind and as such, school students will be given priority over other passengers on regular route services even if this means a service goes over physical distancing capacity. Adults may have to wait for the next service or choose to get off if they’re not comfortable with how many customers are on a service. All services will continue to operate to a normal timetable until advised otherwise. Please remind students that they are still required tap on and off with their Opal card or show their school bus pass when boarding. It’s important to continue communicating to students that we all have a responsibility to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Where possible, students should maintain social distance from each other on board bus services. If different school groups are boarding a bus, each school should maintain social distance from the other and students should always maintain a safe distance from their bus driver, where practically possible.

Busways has continued to exercise additional procedures for all Busways employees to follow in order to limit any chance of the virus spreading. This includes issuing employees with hand sanitiser, requiring employees to wash their hands every time they enter and leave a worksite, employees staying home if they’re unwell, and minimising the handling of cash. If you have any further questions, please contact the Busways’ Customer Experience team at [email protected]. BRYNORM’S COVID-19 TRADING HOURS Due to COVID-19, Brynorm’s temporary trading hours from Tuesday 5 May are as follows: Tuesday 9.30 am-4.45 pm (closed 1.00-1.30pm) Thursday 9.30 am-4.45 pm (closed 1.00-1.30pm) Saturday 9.00 am-12.45 pm FUN FACTORY Please be sure to check your emails for important info regarding attendances at the Fun Factory in Term 2. Unfortunately, they are having to make some significant adjustments to their programs due to the COVID-19 crisis and your assistance and cooperation is so greatly appreciated. Too Sick to go to School https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/practical-help-for-parents-and-carers/family-wellbeing/too-sick-to-go-to-school This link gives parents/carers advice on how to manage various health conditions and how to long to keep their child at home.

Kiss n Drop Zone & U-Turn Bay Please be reminded that the Kiss n Drop zone has a maximum standing time of no more than two minutes. This time allows for many parents to drop off and pick up children in safety. Drivers must not be more than 2 metres from the vehicle. Whilst waiting, vehicles must not impede buses or passing traffic.

Please do not drop children off in the U-turn bay. Please use the Kiss n Drop zone”.
