Any senior 4-H member that is passionate for and active in the 4-H Fashion & Interior Design pro-
ject are encouraged to apply.
A selection committee will review the applications and accept up to 20 participants. Applicants will
be notified in April with the results.
Mandatory training will be held at Incarnate Word University in San Antonio July 27-30th. A $250

February means that it
is time for the 2020 stock
shows! It’s hard to believe that
the time is already here! Many
of our 4-Hers will be showing
at San Antonio, San Angelo,
Austin and Houston over the next new months, but that’s
not all that is going on!
We have kids that will
be participating in the SALE,
San Angelo and Houston Shot-
gun shoots as the shooting
sports season starts to heat up!
We will have kids participating
in Livestock judging, and the
SALE Robotics. We also have 4
-Hers acting as SALE school
tour guides for youth around
San Antonio! We have kids in
the Photo contest, consumer
contest and much more.
February is also the time
of the year when we start to
work with our county schools
on hatching in the classroom projects, water fairs, outdoor
education and more; that means
that there are plenty of opportu-
nities to volunteer! Also, we
need to start thinking about our
recordbooks!
This is a time of a lot of
excitement and passion for what
you do everyday! With luck,
many of you will win whatever
you are competing in. There is
also the chance that you may

Contest will be due to the
county extension office on
Friday, 21 February 2020 for
Guadalupe County. Cost for
registration will be $5.00 per
person which will be covered
by the county council. ALL
photo files must be emailed to

Each 4-Her may enter
up to three (3) photos. A 4-
Her CANNOT enter all three
photographs in the same cate-

graph
Photographs should be
taken at a minimum of 300 dpi
quality resolution. Photo-

(5MB).Photos must be a 3:2
(4”x6”) or 5:4 (8”x10”) ratios
(either landscape or portrait). If

from each 4-H club will meet to
discuss county 4-H business and

ty 4-H booster club will meet on the
same night upstairs at the county ex-
tension office. This is open to all 4-H
parents and leaders in the county.

Each month will have a “Learn
it” module, a “make it “ module
and a “field exercise” mod-
ule. The Crescent bend Nature
Park and the Bracken Wildlife
Preserve will be used for the
field exercises and some foR the
‘make it’ modules.
The participants will
have the option of setting up
and managing a Honey Bee hive
for the duration of the project
which will be kept at the Brack-
en Preserve.
From January to No-
vember 2020, the Guadalupe 4-
H Infinity club will be hosting a
Bee project. The project will
have a Master Beekeeper, a
Master Gardener and Native
Plant Society Educator assisting
the project.
A holistic, natural Inte-
grated Pest Management ap-
proach will be used. The bees
will be a vehicle to learn about
ones environment and the in-
teraction of its components.

The Mission Possible Men-
tor applications are now open online. 4-H Members currently in
the 8th grade and up are eligible to apply. This service learning oppor-
tunity allows 4-H members to be partnered with Mission Possible
campers to provide a safe and fun
camp experience for all.
Mission Possible matches 4-H youth with youth with various dis-
abilities and gives them a chance
to have a regular 4-H Camp Expe-
rience. It is not always the easiest job, but it is the most rewarding
experience 4-H has to offer.
Mentor applications are

available June 28-July 1 to attend training and camp at the Texas 4-

This year, our Dis-
trict 10 service project is
much more on track with
past years! We are col-
lecting new socks and
gently used coats to be
donated to women's and
homeless shelters. These
will be given to kids who
need them during and af-
ter a traumatic event.
Socks are one of
those things we all take
for granted, especially in
the winter months. They
are in nearly every life
pack given to people in
need! Coats too are im-
portant for cold weather
and for rain protection.
We will be collect-

be sure to “fail” 4-H and focus on
school!
I have had my own difficul-
ty with grades before, I know how
difficult it can be. Hey, I even for-
got to do my last class in doctoral
school and failed it! I also
know what its like to work
for a long time on a project
and NOT be able to show it
because of grades! Remem-
ber, these grades are what is
going to get you into college
and get you a good job
someday! Don’t let anything
get in the way of your edu-
cation, it is the most im-
portant thing you can give to
yourself!

County-Wide 4-H Projects These are the projects that are offered on the county level currently, a new project can be added at ANY time!

Natural Resources (Outdoor Challenge) (PARTIALLY OPEN TO CLOVER KIDS)
This project focuses on developing outdoor skills in various areas including camping, archery, wild-
life ID, Shooting Sports and much more! This project will meet at Outdoor Learning Cen-
ter on the 4th Sunday afternoon from 2-5pm! The date is February 23. We will do ca-
noeing and orienteering (Weather Permitting)
Horse Project
The Horse Project will be in for its first year in 2019-2020. We are just getting started right now
and are looking for more participants. This includes horse riding (western, possibly English too),
speed events, horse judging, horse quiz bowl and care/maintenance of horses. They will meet the
2nd Tuesday of each month. Location will be at the county extension office.
Robotics & STEM
The Robotics Project has grown and we are looking to expand and prepare for contests and more!
We will meet the 1st Saturday of each month from 9-11am. If you would like to help
with the project, please let us know!
Shooting Sports (Archery, Rifle, Pistol & Muzzle Loading)
If you would like to get involved in the Shooting Sports Project (Rifle, Pistol, and Archery) please
contact the 4-H Shooting Sports Club. They are willing to coach the kids and teach them the prop-
er way to handle and discharge a firearm! Guadalupe County will even be hosting a coaches training
again this year. For more information about rules and requirements of coaches and information
about coach training, please see the “Coach & Assistant Coach Training and Certification Infor-

Shotgun Project
The shotgun project is the 4-H Shotgun Sports club in Guadalupe County. Guadalupe County will
even be hosting a coaches training again this year. For more information about rules and require-

Dog Project (OPEN TO CLOVER KIDS)
Come learn how to show your dog in all areas of dog training. We have a goal of participating in
the 4-H State Dog Show in July 2020. When: Every Tuesday thru July. Time: 6 – 8pm come and go

trip, contact Matt Miranda and we will set it up! Workshops ideas include focus, mounting of photos,
subject matter and more.
Livestock Judging Project
Livestock judging is now considered a 4-H project in the state of Texas! That’s great for us, because we have one of the biggest LSJ programs in the state! Chuck Real is our coach and is one of the best! Kids
learn how to pick the best animal, learn more about the animals they may show and much much more!

Beekeeping Project Greetings at the start of this wonderful year.
The 4-H Natural Science Bee project is a go. We have 6 participants and are open to more (ages 12-18)
This is a 10 month project starting this month, January 2020. Each month there will be a ‘Learn it’, ‘Observe it’
and 'Do it’ opportunity matching the learning objectives for the month. Observe it and Do it could involve mak-
ing something learnt or a field visit. Bee Hive visits will happen when needed and could be one of the ‘Do it’ ses-
sions. Field exercises will take place at Crescent Bend Nature reserve, Bracken nature preserve or other suitable
venues. The bee hives will be kept at the Bracken Educational Apiary or as otherwise arranged.
The project will use Honey Bees as the vehicle to explain and practice the concepts.
We will have modules form the Native Plant Society, Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists. There are mod-
ules planned on entomology and geology of our county.
At this first meeting, the project will be explained, commitments, introduction record book keeping, establishing
personal goals relating to the project, Bee suit fitting (If you have your own, please bring it with you) and you will
be given a hive super to decorate and personalize. This must be completed by the February meeting as we will be
installing bees in March.

Vet Science
Vet science is BACK as a 4-H Project in Guadalupe County. You need to be about 11-12 years old to
get involved because of the level of the subject matter. The meetings will meet Wednesdays ever three
weeks or of most months at the county extension office. If you have questions, check out the monthly
newsletter or call the extension office. Our meetings will be the following dates:

Dennis and Cassie Krueger will be our coaches again for the Wildlife Contest in 4-H! They will meet at
