Since its beginnings in 1947, the Barossa Vintage Festival has brought together the Barossa Community and shared with the world our unique stories, traditions, wine, food and generous spirit.

As we emerge from such tumultuous times, like that first Vintage Festival celebrating a coming together after the end of World War Two, the 2021 Vintage Festival provides a beacon of hope and of celebration of our community’s resilience.

The five-day Barossa Vintage Festival offers a fantastic insight into our Barossa lifestyle, and the opportunity to celebrate this with locals and visitors alike.

The 2021 Festival programme is full of Barossa characters, hidden gems, off-the-beaten-track experiences, old favourites and some new events designed specifically for this festival! With more than 70 events on offer, you’ll want to spend some time curating your festival itinerary, to maximise your Barossa experience.

Join me as we celebrate Barossa!!

The Barossa Vintage Festival has always been a time of celebration, and a living embodiment of our Barossan community spirit. In 1947 the first Barossa Vintage Festival celebrations occurred on the heels of a world war that had turned the world upside down. In 2021, after another period of global disruption, the Barossa Vintage Festival will provide a time of much-welcome celebration and a sense of joy as we gather together to showcase the best of our region!

Like the Barossa itself, the Vintage Festival is a marvellous fusion of tradition and innovation – we delight in the telling and re-telling of old stories, and the creation of new narratives. Produce, place, custodianship and creativity are woven together and presented in a kaleidoscope of events, dinners, markets, makers experiences and more – providing an insight into the Barossa way of life.

As a child, I remember the anticipation of the festival – watching the Ziegenmarkt appear in all its wonder on the doorstep of our home at Goat Square, the spectacle of the parade, the colourful celebrations at the Tanunda Oval – magical! And today, this festival brings an anticipation of better times, of laughter and fun, and joyful community celebration.

My heartfelt thanks go to our Barossa community which again has rallied together to contribute to this important event. In particular, I am grateful for the extraordinary efforts of Festival Director Jenny O’Brien, Taryn Wills and the Festival Committee. Thank you all.

This year’s Vintage Festival feels more special than ever given the 12 months the region and our community has faced. We are proud to present such a brilliant and diverse program which is testament to the strength and resilience of our community and businesses.

The 2021 Barossa Vintage Festival offers 75+ opportunities to live like a local and soak up the Barossa way of life. We invite you to come and experience what it’s like to live in one of the best regions in the world; go behind the scenes with some of the region’s top winemakers; secure rare and distinguished wines direct from producers, learn the tricks of the trade with local artisans, slow down and enjoy as renowned chefs present their pick of local produce.

The program features the much-loved traditional events such as The Parade, Barossa Scarecrows and Barossa Wine Auction as well as a series of new events designed to showcase an unexpected side of the Barossa. As a region we pride ourselves of being welcoming and accessible and the Festival does just that!

I want to personally thank our community and businesses for their care, hard work and being the key ingredient to collectively create the magic that is the Barossa Vintage Festival.

So please come and enjoy the 2021 Barossa Vintage Festival and experience what it’s like to live like a local.

2021 YOUNG AMBASSADORSTHE NEXT GENERATIONThe Barossa Young Ambassador program is unique to the Barossa, shaping the next generation of innovators, future leaders and gamechangers.

The highly successful program raises the profile of young community leaders, while acknowledging the significant role young people play in the community and their ability to shape and influence the future of the Barossa’s vibrant wine, food, cultural and tourism industries.

The 11 young leaders participating in the 2021 Young Ambassador program are Georgia Carter, Abbey Underwood, Ekkia Evans, Georgia Boehm, Isaac Troup, Neve Reynolds, Nikita Skuse, Olivia Reynolds, Rebecca Uphill, Rebekah Rosenzweig and Georgia Nicholls.

Throughout the program, the ambassadors will work on their own individual projects, participating in training and networking activities and be involved in key planning and promotional of the Barossa Vintage Festival.

    &

ROCKFORD WINES and THE YOUNG AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

Rockford Wines is a family business committed to keeping the best of Australia’s traditional wine trade alive.

When Robert O’Callaghan started Rockford in 1984, he established a set of principles to guide the business into the future and through generational change. One of these founding principles is to contribute to the Barossa community in both capital and labour, ensuring its ongoing health and viability.

When the opportunity arose to partner with the Young Ambassador Program we were pleased to take it up - supporting the emerging and future leaders of our region is another way to safeguard our community and provide opportunities and mentorship to the next generation.

We look forward to the enthusiasm, commitment and innovation that the Young Ambassadors put forward this Vintage Festival and into the future.
