ABBY YEEND - YEAR 8Abby is involved in numerous musical groups on numerous musical instruments (piano, saxophone, clarinet and vocals). She performs solo, in small ensembles and large ensembles, even debuting at Wanera Restaurant recently. Even throughout her extra commitments, Abby has been consistent in her approach to her subjects and achieved high academic results. She is also always encouraging of other students and has a positive impact on staff and students in her classes with a ready smile, positive energy and ‘can do’ attitude.

RHIANNON BISHOP YEAR 9Rhiannon Bishop was selected as one of eight young people from Australia and New Zealand to compete in horse show jumping in an eight day competition in China. On November 20th she experienced international travel for the first time with a group of seven other young people whom she has never met. Rhiannon was the only South Australian selected, and her selection was based on her show jumping ability, school grades, community involvement and overall attitude and personality. We wish Rhiannon every success for the future.

OLYVIA REIMERS YEAR 10Olyvias has studied music at Faith since year 8. She played the role of Jelly Lorum, in this year’s Musical, CATS, is a member of the Faith Senior Choir, and performed in this year’s Soiree and chapels.Olyvia is a member of the Australian Girls Choir, joining when she was just 11. (Her voice is Alto One). There are 5000 girls in the choir Australia wide, and 800 girls in the Adelaide section. Olyvia is a member of the “Performing Choir”, which is the highest level of achievement in the Australian Girls Choir. She attends Seymour College on Thursday nights for rehearsals, singing and choreography. In 2016, Olyvia took part in a two week performing tour of New Zealand, with choir members from Australia wide.In 2017, the choir sang at the Adelaide Cricket Ashes competition, where they sang from the roof climb. This year’s Term 1 holidays were spent in Sydney, performing the choir’s 10 song repetoire. This year, The performing choir sang at a Thunderbirds netball game, the Gala Spring festival at Elder Hall, Adelaide Uni, and at Westminster School, Marion, in the Winter Showcase.During her time with the choir, Olyvia has sung in many different languages

including Portuguese, Gaelic, Aboriginal dialect and Maori dialect. In 2015 Olyvia won the Outstanding Potential Award with the Australian Girls Choir. This year, – she is the successful recipient of a scholarship, known as the “Danny Meades Barlow for spirit and dedication”. This is a national award with only 2 recipients Australia wide. When Olyvia sings she feels happy and loves the satisfaction when her choir nails a 4 part harmony. Olivia’s favourite singer is Adele, and her favourite song to sing is “When we were young”.Olyvia plans for a career in singing and performing, hopefully joining professional productions. We wish Olyvia well as a budding talent and look forward to seeing her perform on Broadway or London’s West End.

AMY DOECKE YEAR 11Amy has been proactive in liaising with and showing a real sense of commitment to her course, however, it was ‘Amy’s’ SIWAH journey that stood out. Amy was an exceptional individual in Indonesia but also pre and post the Indonesian trip. She was ‘outgoing’, very positive and would give the many new and untried ‘things’ associated the SIWAH project a go. She communicated effectively with adults and students alike and she supported her peers and teachers immensely. She was caring and considerate of others. Amy’s positivity was infectious. She continually looked for the new opportunities and would give everything a go. Amy is a mature young lady and she is level-headed. She tries hard and was always willing to support any fundraising work for the SIWAH project. She is incredibly considerate of other’s needs. Academically she tries hard and puts the effort into everything she does.

CAITLIN HOLT YEAR 12Caitlin is an outstanding artist who has produced highly engaging, technically excellent artworks during her Visual Arts learning at Faith Lutheran College. Caitlin has participated in various public exhibitions including the SALA Festival in 2016 hosted by Lindsay Wine Estate and the Creative Souls exhibition at the Barossa Regional Gallery in 2017 where she won the Rusden Wines sponsored award. Her artistic and graphic design skills grace the cover of the 2017 college publication, FOOTPRINTS. This year, as Caitlin completes her high school education at Faith, her talent has been recognised by receiving the Excellence in Year 12 Art award, the People’s Choice award and the Art Acquisition award. Caitlin has always risen to meet challenges and strived for excellence with every aspect of her learning in Visual Arts. She demonstrates an outstanding work ethic, initiative and perseverance; all key attributes for an aspiring and successful artist. We wish Caitlin all the best in her future endeavours.

THE MAGNOLIA AWARDThis award is presented to a student who, during their time at Faith, has demonstrated a growing talent in a specific area that they intend to continue to develop after they leave high school.

GOAT CLUB AWARDSCraig Moore, Daymap CoordinatorOn Thursday 22nd November students enjoyed a pizza lunch to celebrate the great year and the positive contributions in the running of goat club.

This year we were fortunate to have a large group of senior students who showed outstanding leadership and paired up with our juniors as their mentors. The junior students then very capably worked towards leading their allocated goat in the show ring.

Overall the team work and comradery of the group was outstanding. We were very lucky to have Teresa Roocke come on board as a key staff member in the mentoring of students and helping run the project.

Thanks also to Mr Stewart and the Agriculture teachers for their guidance and weekend feeding of the goats throughout the year.

PLAYGROUND ENGINEERS A request for a new swing set has provided another opportunity for Year 11 VET Construction students to put their skills to the test.Students at the TLS Campus put the call out for a swing set to complement their Junior Primary play areas, with Steve Dutschke and his team of Construction students more than happy to answer the call.Over several weeks Mr Dutschke worked with students to meet the TLS Campus brief, designing and building the structure onsite at the Faith Campus. On Tuesday 4th December the swing set made its way to its new home next to the Harvest Centre at the TLS Campus. The completed project has been a rewarding experience for students involved and will ensure hours of enjoyment for the younger members of the College. ‘Students are to be congratulated on all their hard work on this project and especially on successfully completing their final assessments. This group have been a wonderful group to work with as they complete units from Cert II in Construction and are a credit to their parents, teacher and the College. Well done boys!’ Dianne Sanders VET CoordinatorThank you to the Parents and Friends committee at the TLS campus who have spent the year fundraising for the playground.Participating Year 11 students Will Parker (NRH), Lachlan Westlake (GFR), Lachlan Scheer (GFR), Daniel Bussenschutt (KDF), Henry Knights (JCK), Dylan Birchard (BTY), Daniel Roennfeldt (NRH), Isaac Feltus (SWL) and Hayden Starick (GDB)

YEAR 10 GINGERBREAD HOUSESEdith Zeller, TeacherIn the last couple of lessons of the year we have been making gingerbread houses 'the proper way' with gingerbread spices imported from Switzerland. We made the dough ourselves from scratch and students took it home to bake. We had lots of fun decorating them in our last double lesson of the year - and eating them of course!

Year 10 Food & Hospitality students also made Gingerbread Houses during the term.

The 2019

In 2019, we are aiming to have as many students as possible involved in the Championship Events at each of the major sports carnivals (Swimming and Athletics), in addition to the novelty events. Students are encouraged to think about how they might be involved before the return to the college in 2019. All students will return to Faith at the conclusion of the novelty program for lunch and the final presentation of awards. Dismissal will be at 3.15pm from Faith.Parents and Caregivers are most welcome to come along at any time during the day to join the Faith community.

Barossa Triathlon ClubThe Barossa Triathlon Club have been in existence informally, for the last two summers, with a group of mums organising family-friendly mini triathlon events in and around the Nuri Pool for our kids, their friends and anyone else we could think of inviting. We only managed to hold two events in Feb/Mar last year, as two were cancelled due to extreme weather, but we had 77 people participating in at least one event, including 15 fit young lads from Tanunda Footy Club who incorporated it into their pre-season training efforts. All of the events have been held with the blessing of Triathlon SA, Barossa Council and under the auspices of Nuriootpa Futures Association. At the end of last Summer we decided that this concept really did have legs, and we decided that we'd better make the group official for the usual reasons, and are currently working towards having the club officially incorporated. We are already affiliated with TriathlonSA so full club members can compete as Barossa club members at all Triathlon SA events around the state. In 2019, we intend to hold more mini events as we have done in the past. They are all about getting people outdoors and active in a friendly environment and using some of the great facilities that we have available. We are planning to host six events every couple of weeks on a Friday evening or Sunday morning, from the end of January to mid March. Participants and their families are encouraged to hang around the pool area afterwards, with a BBQ and other food available to purchase, or BYO picnic.Events cater for three year olds who still need to wear floaties in the pool, have trainer wheels on their bikes, and probably need a parent or older sibling to hold their hand for the run. Bigger kids and adults can stretch their legs and swim 50m, 100m or 200m, and ride once or twice around the block that contains Nuri High School and Coulthard Reserve. The run is along the creek, up to the caravan park and back. There is a distance to suit all ages and levels of fitness, and the distances that require (real) swimming are timed so participants can track their progress during the season.
