Hello All,

Another busy week, with lots of entertainment thrown in! It really began with our art display which was exhibited in ART IN THE VALE at the Hannam Vale Hall. A wonderful event, members of the Hall Committee must be congratulated and thanked by us all. It was a very successful weekend event! ....

Mr. Youngblutt visited on Monday and was happy to find out about all the great things we are involved in at HVPS!

MUSICAL TREAT

Congratulations students, and a very big thanks to Brad Bunyan, and talented staff who have combined to create a quality concert on Tuesday – featuring drums, guitar, clarinet, recorder and keyboards. Thanks to all family members who attended and encouraged our students. A very successful inaugural event – there will be more!

3MAPS SPORTS CARNIVAL

Another great big CONGRATULATIONS to students! Our second place overall is a credit to all who competed...can I just mention great efforts by Sam and Jasmine our School Captains, who lead by example all day!

Our first 3MAPS Colour Run was enthusiastically participated in....hope the dye all came out!

We will use results from this carnival to help place team members for the Lansdowne and District PSSA Athletics Carnival

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Students presented their Shelter Speeches to Mrs. Dean and Mrs. E. on Thursday. We heard about shelters built with bamboo in the Phillipines, floating basket homes of Iraq, igloos, the Yurt and Ger of Mongolia, shelters built under the earth- worldwide and long houses found also in many locations worldwide. Absolutely fascinating!

We have begun to write a Speech in class about Drug Education – which will be presented in class on Tuesday 7th June. Four students will be chosen to present their speeches at Taree Public School Wednesday 8th June. This has been organised by Ms. Kim Wallace , Principal of Mitchells Island PS on behalf of the Manning Small Schools Collegial Leadership Network - includes Mitchells Island, Oxley Island , Elands, Harrington, Lansdowne, Upper Lansdowne, Moorland, Taree, Bobin, Coopernook and Hannam Vale Public Schools.

NEXT at our last Assembly for this Term, students from Hannam Vale who have presented great speeches K-6 will present at our Assembly to an independent adjudicator. Our winning student will receive a Trophy for their efforts.

Lots to do in the garden. We have some broccoli coming on – we have even harvested some!..and we have plenty of EGGS!! The sign on the chook pen looks superb!

Our Week 6 Star of the Week is Sam Thornton-Collins. Sam participated with enthusiasm at the 3MAPS Carnival...having spent the 2 days leading up the carnival feeling unwell! Great work Sam!

SCRIPTURE FUN!

This week’s Scripture lesson focussed on finding out about the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal...students had a lot of fun with a balloon race and egg and spoon race. Great to have Mrs. Lauder and Mr. Battershall along!

GRIP LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE, TUESDAY 31ST MAY

Adam , John and Noah of Year 5 will be travelling to Port Macquarie with Mrs. E. to take part in the 2016 GRIP Leadership training day. The boys are looking forward to a great day! Ms. Dennis will be in at school for the day with Mrs. Stevenson.

L3 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT happens again for Mrs. Stevenson, Wednesday this week.

ICAS SCIENCE TEST THIS WEEK

On Wednesday morning Years 2-6 will be completing the 2016 ICAS Science test! Good Luck students!

YEAR 6 TRANSITION TO CHHS DAY

Will be held at Herons Creek PS Monday 6th June. We will be asking parents to transport the students to and from the venue on that day. Permission Note attached.

I enjoyed a day with my family in Sydney on Saturday, travelling home yesterday. Whilst there we walked to the State Library and viewed the WORLD PRESS PHOTO 16, an annual exhibition featuring outstanding photojournalism. This free exhibition is in the State Library from 21st May to 19th June. Every time I see this exhibition, I am moved so much by it. We are

truly very fortunate to live where we do, and enjoy the freedom that we do. Also walked about Sydney in the evening (with lots of other people!) and observed the colours of VIVID – the Opera House looked amazing.

P&C News CANTEEN We have to make a change to the lunchtime canteen day due to Marius’s work commitments. Our new lunchtime canteen day will be every 2nd Wednesday starting on Wednesday 8th June. We are also on the lookout for another volunteer to help out with the recess canteen on Mondays. If we can get a fourth person, we will be able to run the recess canteen every Monday on a rotating volunteer roster.

JOHN’S RIVER MARKETS: It is two weeks today until we hold the P&C stall at the markets. Donations of good second hand items will be greatly appreciated. A volunteer

roster for the day will appear on the P&C noticeboard this week. (I will take the “Brrrrrr” early shift!) Please consider adding your name – even half an hour of your time would be wonderful. The funds we will raise will go directly to assist with the cost of the Canberra excursion and pay for the excursion for the remainder of the students.
