Mr. PARAMASIVAM our employee from TED dept, Chennai

had participated in the Chennai district

Masters Athletic held on 5th & 6th

of Oct ’19 @

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai , in the category of

200 meters running and has won the 3rd place .

Right from his school days he has

been a District (Salem) cricket player and in college he was adjudged as a

fast bowler in cricket .

After the college, as he had shifted focus on his career and has been

away from athletics'.

Now after 14 years he has again started getting into

athletics and has nabbed the opportunity to participate in

Chennai District Masters Athletic

He participated in 2 events

Event 1: 100 meters (Secured 4th place)

Event 2: 200 meters (Secured 3rd place)

GAME OF CHESS

CHESS is a very favorite and popular game in India and many other countries. When we think of CHESS what strikes most of us is the chess board made up of 64 squares with 8 rows and eight columns of alternate colors with pieces like King, Queen etc with which the game is played. Let us look at some of the interesting things about the game.

History

The history of Chess can be traced to more than 1500 years. The earliest name for the modern chess game in India is known as Chaturanga . It is believed development of chess was due to India’s mathematical enlightenment involving the creation of number zero. The game spread to Persia and when Arab conquered Persia, Chess was taken up by Muslim world and subsequently spread to southern Europe. Romantic Chess was the prominent style during early centuries where the emphasis was on quick tactical maneuvers rather than long term strategic planning. In the second half of 19th century modern chess tournament play began and the first world chess championship was held in 1886. Chess theory has undergone changes during 20th and the current century with es-tablishment of world Chess Federation and use of computers for analysis. Chess remains a highly popular past time and chess players make up as one of the largest communities in the world. Chess is played at least once in a year by 12% British people, 15% Americans, 23% Germans, 43% Russians

and 70 % Indian people.

CHESS GAME

The game involves two players, chess board, and Chess pieces like King, Queen, Rook, Bishop, Knight and Pawns of alternate colors. Each square in the chess board is identified with unique pairs of numbers and letters.

There are rules governing movement of the above pieces like for example King can move one square horizontally, vertically or

diagonally. Queen can move any number of squares diagonally, horizontally or vertically. Rook can move any number of vacant squares vertically or horizontally. Bishop can move any number of vacant squares in any diagonal direction. Knight can move along one square along any rank or file and then at an angle. Pawn can move forward if the square is unoccupied and it cannot move backward. It can get promoted to a queen or bishop or knight if it reaches the opponent edge of the table. Player with white pieces is the one who will move first and the players take turns alternatively moving one piece at a time. A piece is moved to another position or may capture an opponent piece replacing on its square. If a player’s turn is to move he is not in check but has no legal moves the situation is called ‘Stalemate’ and the game ends in draw. The ultimate aim of the player is delivering a check mate – trapping the op-ponent’s King. Check mate ends the game and the side whose king was checkmated loses the game. In tournaments time control is also there.

No wonder the game is popular across the world and particularly in India. This is one indoor game even many of our employees may be familiar with and this article is meant for bringing awareness among those who do not have any idea about basic knowledge of the game so that they can learn further and participate in the games if possible and reap the benefits. Incidentally this game can benefit us in the personal , official and social sphere as well.

Photographer Removes Phones

From His Photos To Show How Terribly Addicted We’ve Become

American photographer Eric Pickersgill photoshopped away the smartphones and digital devices from his portraits of everyday life. The project “Removed” aims to show our addiction to modern technology, social media, and hyper-connectivity. Pickersgill knows that he’s also amongst the addicted. The photographer was inspired by a chance encounter in a New York cafe. “Family sitting next to me at Illium café in Troy, NY is so disconnected from one another,” Pickersgill writes in his notes from that day. “Not much talking. Father and two daughters have their phones out. Mom doesn’t have one or chooses to leave it put away. She stares out the window, sad and alone in the company of her closest family. Dad looks up every so often to announce some obscure piece of info he found online.” He achieved the surreal effect in his photography art by asking strangers and friends to remain in position, taking the shot and then removing the devices in final photoshopped pictures
