Shop-with-a-Cop Receives $6,000 On Dec. 5, the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce presented a $6,000 check to representatives of area law enforcement

agencies to be used for their annual “Shop With A Cop” program.

The “Shop With A Cop” program is a partnership among the chamber, Henderson Police Department, the Vance County Sheriff ’s Office and the Vance County Department of Social Services. It pairs various local law enforcement agency representatives with local underprivileged children for a shopping trip to local retailers for Christmas.

A certain dollar amount of the proceeds raised at the Chamber’s annual Reverse Raffle was set aside for each participating child to assist them and their families throughout Henderson and Vance County who otherwise would go without during the holidays. The shopping trip was held December 20 and helped 47 local families.

The Reverse Raffle event was held in early November and is a joint effort of the Henderson Police Department, Vance County Sheriff ’s Office and the Chamber. Maria Parham Health was the presenting sponsor for this year’s event.

“15 Under 40” Honored

The Chamber will welcome 5 new board members in the upcoming year. Please join the current Board of Directors along with the Chamber staff in welcoming our new directors to the Chamber Board:

Chris Fisher with Henderson Fruit and Produce, Jenny Hester with PRIM Development and Residential Rentals, Ronald Bennett with Variety Wholesalers, Turner Pride with NC Cooperative Extension, and Bert Long with H.G. Reynolds Company.

Congratulations!! We look forward to the beginning of your first three-year term as a Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce Director of the Board.

The group recognized as the “15 Under 40” were honored at a reception and meet-and-greet at Henderson Country Club on Tuesday, November 27. The reception was sponsored by the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce, The Daily Dispatch, and local chapters of Rotary, Optimist and Kiwanis Clubs.

The 15 “Emerging Leaders Age 40 and Younger in Vance County” gathered to meet one another and network with members of the local business community. Heavy hors d’oeuvres were served as attendees made introductions and networked among themselves.

The concept of seeking nominations for 15 individuals under the age of 40 that are making a difference in the Henderson-Vance County community was an idea brought to life by The Daily Dispatch and the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce to identify our community’s young, emerging leaders in politics, business, nonprofit, and the faith community.

Each recipient was recognized individually and presented with a certificate.

The 15 recipients are: Nathan Baskerville - Attorney and former Representative to N.C. General Assembly, Bert Beard - Maria Parham Health, Joel Beckham - New Life Baptist Church, Kristen Boyd - Principal Aycock Elementary School, Amanda Walker Ellis - Henderson Junior Women’s League and Community Volunteer, Trevei Foreman - Coach, Cara Boyd Gill - S.a.M Child Advocacy and Counseling Center, Turner Pride - NC Cooperative Extension, Carice Sanchez and Eric Sanchez - both of Henderson Collegiate, Tremanisha Taylor - Henderson Family YMCA, Josh Towne - Chick-fil-a, Kendrick Vann - Henderson-Vance Recreation and Parks Department, Jessica West - Henderson Police Department, and Daniel White - Business Owner, Volunteer and Philanthropist.

Chamber Welcomes New Directors

The Women of Vance Empowered Networking (WOVEN) group in partnership with the VGCC Small Business Center will host their first Lunch & Learn session entitled “Making YOU the priority in 2019” on Tuesday, January 15.

The lunch will take place from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at the VGCC Civic Center and will feature speaker Susan Crews. Below is a synopsis of the lunch session:

“What is the reason you are wanting to make YOU the priority in 2019? Really, the motivation aspect varies from woman to woman. However, we all have aspirations and goals that we want to crush, but time and time again, life happens, we fall off the wagon and our goals are pushed to the side for one reason or another. They were SUPER motivating to us before, and we really wanted to succeed, so what happens? In this fun-filled luncheon, you will learn how to set yourself up for success, establish and clarify your goals for 2019 and establish the plan of attack.”

Tickets for the event are $20/person and include lunch. Registration in advance is required. Please email Sandra Wilkerson at the Chamber at [email protected] or call 252-438-8414.

ribbon cuttings grand openingsfocusConcordia Nursing & Rehabilitation

Concordia Care Nursing and Rehabilitation of Henderson hosted a Business After Hours on December to celebrate their grand opening with the local community. Guests were treated to refreshments and were informed about Concordia and what they do.

Concordia Nursing and Rehabilitation – Henderson offers short-term rehabilitative as well as long-term care along with a full range of medical, nursing, rehabilitation and social services to treat and support each of their patients and residents. Many patients return home after a few weeks and, for those who are unable to go home right away, Concordia provide safe, compassionate care in an environment that fosters independence and dignity.

Concordia Care understands that when people are discharged from a traditional hospital, they often need continued care in order to recover completely. To meet this need they offer services including aggressive, medically complex care and short-term rehabilitation. Concordia’s clinical capabilities allow them to accept patients with greater medical complexity than a traditional nursing home. This is increasingly important as many patients require transitional care and rehabilitation before they are ready to return home. This is where Concordia comes in, bridging the gap between hospital and home.

In addition, because of our nation’s ever changing healthcare system, Concordia strives to provide their healthcare partners with resources, relevant information and recent updates about the industry and the services provided at Concordia.

The facility is located at 280 South Beckford Drive in Henderson and can be reached by phone at (252) 438-6141 or online at www.gchenderson.com.

Information Update RequestedWith the coming of a new year, the Chamber will be updating your company’s information on the Chamber’s online database. Please

look at your profile at www.hendersonvance.org and see if there is anything that needs to be changed. If not, then you’re good to go and can renew your membership as is. If changes are needed, email our Director of Membership, Jay Andrews, at [email protected], with the changes that need to be made so that he can get your information updated.

We also need to know if any of the contacts for your business have changed. This would include any personnel changes or things as simple as email or phone number changes. These need to be accurate and up-to-date so that we can get information regarding upcoming Chamber events, deadlines and business opportunities to you in a timely manner.

In addition, in the early spring, the Chamber along with The Daily Dispatch, will publish Envision Vance, a full-color, quality of life guide and membership directory where your information will also be listed. This publication is placed in welcome centers along the interstate, in local hotels, in newcomer and membership packets and is an insert in the local newspaper. In addition, copies are given out at the Chamber offices on a regular basis to investors, potential business owners and visitors to the local area.

Over the past year, the Chamber website referred thousands of businesses via this online membership directory. It is often the first contact that newcomers to our area have with your business. Make their “clicks” count and update your information today.

Applications are available for the upcoming 2019 Leadership Vance Program. Interested professionals who live or work in Vance County are invited to apply.

The program will be limited to a maximum of 25 participants who will be selected to represent all backgrounds, occupations and geographic areas of Vance County. The Leadership Vance program is designed to create a group of informed and dedicated leaders who will contribute to the community after graduation.

The program informs, challenges and educates the participants on the opportunities and needs of the community and will strengthen their leadership skills while learning about the social, economic, and political dynamics that shape the community. Participants are exposed to various aspects of Henderson and Vance County, specifically in regard to city and county government, health and community resources, economic development, agriculture and natural resources, history and media, and criminal justice and law.

The intensive training and exposure to all aspects of the community will provide participants with the historical background and the skills necessary for volunteer civic and community positions. It will also benefit participants in their business and career goals.

Brochures and applications for the upcoming year are available at the Chamber office and on the website at www.hendersonvance.org.

The 10-session program will conclude in June and the cost for participating is $350 for Chamber members and $425 for non-Chamber members. Included in the price are all expenses, meals and materials.
