On Saturday 18
January, the new
grade 8s embarked
on an “Amazing
Race” adventure
through Summer-
strand.
Sixteen teams endured such activities as digging
old nuts and screws from drums of old engine oil,
being washed off in the car wash at Total Sum-
merstrand, burying themselves in sand, to fun
activities at the Boardwalk. One of the activities
was a challenge to see who could eat a plate of
curry the fastest. Once back at school, each
team had to nominate its most valuable team
member, and these learners were rewarded with
a flip in a helicopter, a highlight for sure. In the
afternoon, the grade 8s undertook more activities
in their class groups. The day provided a wonder-
ful opportunity for the grade 8s to meet new
friends and to bond with fellow classmates. For
many, this will remain a highlight of the grade 8
year.

Die skool het besluit om op die volgende 3 maniere
met ouers to kommunikeer: SMS, D6Communicator
and email. This enables Pearson to save on paper
and ink (and to go green), and also provide instant
communication of important information to parents
and learners. In order for us to make these technolo-
gies as efficient as possible, it is vital that Pearson is
informed of any changes in email addresses and cell
-phone numbers. This can be done by emailing the
school at [email protected] or the
Head of the IT Department (Mr James) at
With the increased use of smart phones, it has come
to our attention that more parents and learners are
making use of the D6 Communicator Mobile site:
http://mobi.d6communicator.com/ With D6Com you
are able to read the latest News, glance at the Cal-
endar and read up on important Resources. NEWS

Tuck Shop The new academic year is already well on its way
and we should like to take this opportunity to intro-
duce the Pearson Tuckshop and the Rendez-
vous, to all our new parents. Ons het ons spys-
kaart verbeter om ’n ver-skeidenheid gesonde kos
teen bekostigbare pryse te verkoop. We depend
on your valuable support and invite you to visit us
during the week or on sports days.
Our team, the Cracker Jills, competed in the Ladies'
B Section (August to December 2013) of the Indoor Netball League,
in which they won 7 of the 9 matches. In the play-offs they finished
2nd and qualified for the finals. The results of the playoffs were:
19/11: vs Victorious Secrets lost 40 - 56
Best Player: Tadia Siwisa
26/11: vs Cherry Bombers won 46 - 22
Best Player: Michaela Zenha
3/12: vs Smarties lost 34 - 39
Best Player: Christelle Potgieter

In the final they beat Victorious Secrets (Best Player: Amanda Tyala)
and the team members were awarded Gold Medals. This means that
the Pearson girls' team was the first school team to achieve the
honour of winning the Ladies B Section of the League.
Christelle Potgieter & Carlyle Bromfield each received a larger
Gold Medal for being recognised as the 2 best players of the overall
competition.
A special thank you must go to our professional netball coach, Mr
Reg Sharp for his professionalism, energy and expertise.
Dit is skoolbeleid om die humiditeitsfaktor rakende sport-
oefeninge te monitor. We do not like cancelling sports
practices but we wish to assure parents that the school will act
responsibly and that coaches would concentrate more on the honing
of skills than on fitness exercises on hot/humid days.
We have a system for when learners have to be collected early
from school for Doctors’ Appointments etc. Parents must
inform the school of the date and time that any learner needs to be
collected early.
The learner must complete a BLUE FORM granting him/her permission to
leave early, signed by the learner’s Grade Head. These forms are available
at the front office. The school will then arrange for the learner to be waiting in
the foyer just before he/she needs to be fetched. Ouers moet daarop let dat
hulle ’n leerder by ontvangs moet uitteken voor hulle die skool verlaat.
