From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Brothers and Sisters:

The climbing of a high mountain such as Everest is a task that has many dangers. Lack of oxygen at high al tude, extremely cold climate, storms and avalanches are some of the dangers. Even if a person succeeds in ge ng acclima zed to these situa ons and reach the mountain top, descend-ing from the mountain is another problem and many lives have been lost while descending. And yet mountain enthusiasts from all over the world never stop a emp ng to climb the coveted mountain peak. Reaching Jerusalem Jesus warns his disciples about the hardships that lie ahead of them in following him. Jesus through his life and mission that culminated in his death and resur-rec on has inaugurated the new era of salva on. Jesus, who spends his life amidst the suffering hu-manity, but healing their illnesses, cas ng the de-mons, feeding the hungry, being a good shep-herd, has become an agent of God’s love and care for his people. When the final establishment of God’s kingdom will come about is not revealed to us. People have tried to ask this to Jesus as in the case of the disciples at the me of his ascen-sion. “Lord, will you at this me restore the king-dom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6). Jesus does not give an answer but directs them to do their work of wit-nessing and spreading the message of the Gospel. It is not essen al that we should know the exact

me. What is important is how and with what a tude we live our lives. Vigilance and alertness is the key. That is why he is exhor ng the Chris ans of Thes-salonica living in idleness not to do so. Whether the me is short or long nobody has any business to live in idleness. Life as such is very short. We should be industrious at all mes.

Escalar una montaña alta como el Everest es una tarea que ene muchos peligros. La falta de oxígeno a gran al tud y un clima extremada-mente frío, tormentas y avalanchas son algunos de los peligros. Incluso si una persona ene éxi-to en conseguir acostumbrarse a estas situacio-nes y alcanzar la cima de la montaña, descen-der desde la montaña es otro problema y se han perdido muchas vidas mientras descien-den. Y, sin embargo, los entusiastas de monta-ña de todo el mundo nunca dejan de intentar subir el codiciado pico de la montaña. Al llegar a Jerusalén, Jesús advierte a sus discípulos acer-ca de las dificultades que le aguardan en seguir-lo. Jesús a través de su vida y misión que culmi-nó con su muerte y resurrección ha inaugurado la nueva era de la salvación. Jesús, que pasa su vida en medio de los sufrimientos de la humani-dad, la curación de los enfermos, la expulsión de demonios, alimentar a los hambrientos, ser un buen pastor, se ha conver do en un agente del amor y cuidado de Dios por su pueblo. No se nos ha sido revelado cuando será el final del reino de Dios. Jesús nos invita a dar tes monio y difundir el mensaje del Evangelio. No es esen-cial que debemos conocer la hora exacta. Lo im-portante es cómo y con qué ac tud debemos vivir nuestras vidas. La vigilancia y la alerta es la clave. Es por eso El exhorta a los cris anos de Tesalóni-

ca a no vivir en la ociosidad. Si el empo es cor-to o largo nadie no es razón para vivir en la ociosidad. La vida como tal es muy corta. Debemos ser diligentes en todo momento.

Journey of Mercy | National Bible Week November 13-16 To show that God is at the center of their lives, many fami-lies enthrone the Bible, the Word of God, in a visible place in their homes. By placing the Sacred Scriptures in a promi-nent place decorated with flowers and art, and by gather-ing at this spot for daily prayer, families show that God is present and ac ve through his Word. Enthroning the Bible in your home is easy. Simply pick a place where the Bible can be honored. The Bible should be placed where it will be seen regularly, but the loca on should be apart from the noise and confusion of the family entertainment cen-ter. Place the Bible, opened to a favorite passage or the readings of the day on a table or shelf. Decorate the area around the Bible with a cloth, flowers, and/or a candle—whatever makes sense to you. Use the following ritual prayer when you gather as a family to enthrone the Bible. *Leader: Our Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Word of the Father. Response: Come, Lord Jesus, come. *Leader: You became one with us to tell of the Father’s love. Response: Come, Lord Jesus, come. *Leader: You are the light that shines in the darkness. Response: Come, Lord Jesus, come. *Leader: You save us from fear and break the bonds of sin and death. Response: Come, Lord Jesus, come. *Leader: You come to guide our steps and lead us to God. lugar visible de sus hogares. Al colocar la Sagrada Escritura en un lugar prominente decorado con flores y objetos ar-

s cos, y al congregarse en este punto para la oración diaria, las familias muestran que Dios está presente y ac -vo a través de su Palabra. Entronizar la Biblia en su hogar es fácil. Simplemente escojan un lugar donde la Biblia pueda ser honrada. Debe colocarse la Biblia donde se vea regularmente, pero el lugar debe estar apartado del ruido y confusión del si o donde la familia se recrea. Coloquen la Biblia, abierta en un pasaje favorito o en las lecturas del día, en una mesa o estante. Decoren el área en torno a la Biblia con un paño, flores y/o una vela, lo que tenga sen -do para ustedes.
