George’s Weekly Message: Solidarity with our Brothers and Sisters Suffering From Natural Disaster all Over the World This is a grave moment for the people of Texas, Louisiana, and in general, the people of the United States of America, and indeed the world. Hurricane Har- vey has caused terrible devastation to a lot of people leaving behind deaths, destruction of property and infrastructure. Thousands of persons are ren- dered homeless, while others mourn the demise of loved ones and family members. For the death, we pray that their souls may rest in peace, and their loved ones will experience succor and consolation from God. At the same time, we salute all those who have been working tirelessly in the rescue effort, providing immediate help to all those in harm’s way. We equally salute all those who had made and are still making generous donations to cushion the effect of the hurricane and flood. We as a parish are called upon to offer pray- ers to all those affected by this disaster. Also, in collaboration with the Catho- lic Church in the USA, we are invited to make donations for the benefit of our brothers and sisters so affected. Please, as individuals, say a prayer for our brothers and sisters suffering from natural disaster all over the world, and we as a parish will incorporate some specific prayers during the Mass. From the Diocese of Saginaw: USBC Hurricane Harvey Emergen- cy Collection: All Catholic churches are requested to take up second collections this week- end or next to assist in the charitable works of the church for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Therefore, we would take a second collection at all Masses of the weekend of 9 and 10 of September. Please be generous in helping our brothers and sisters in need. God bless you as you do this. Welcome Back Dear Students!!! With gratitude to God, we welcome all our students, both old and new, back to school to begin a new academic session. We thank God for keeping you safe throughout the vacation. We thank God for your parents and family members who cared for you and treated you to a well-deserved vacation. I hope you had a nice and peaceful vacation filled with fun. Know that as you resume for aca- demic work, we are here to assist you in every way we can especially helping you to build up your spiritual life that will only enhance your academic excel- lence. We offer you a wholistic formation entailing intellectual, human, spir- itual, and social. And to our dear parents and grandparents of our students we thank you for all the care you provide to our children while on vacation, and the sacrifices you make daily to put your children and wards through school. We will accompany you through this school year and through the time they are with us here in the school. Thank you for reposing your trust in our Church and our ability to provide good education founded in Christ Jesus. And to our teaching Staff, we welcome you back to the great work you do. USCCB SPECIAL COLLECTION: The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has asked that we take up an emergency collection to help address the hu-manitarian and Church needs caused by Hurricane Harvey. This special collection for our brothers and sisters impact-ed by the hurricane will be taken up at all Masses next weekend, September 9th & 10th. The funds collected in this one-time appeal for Hurricane Harvey Relief will be used to support the efforts of the Catholic Charities USA, the official domestic relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church, as they and their member agencies respond to immediate emergency needs for necessities such as water, food, shel-ter, and medical care as well as the long term needs to re-build and recover after widespread destruction, and of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for pastoral and reconstruction aid to the Church. Please pray for all those who are still in danger, for those left homeless or without support and resources. We pray, too, for the first responders who risk their own lives to save others and for all who are giving aid and support to those in need.
