Why would you want to carve?Some reasons might be to: Use your own hands to create something Learn a new art Create inexpensive gifts 4. getting started I started carving by picking up a piece ofwood and a knife. There are many onlineresources. Or if you prefer, there are woodworkingsocieties all over Kentucky that you couldjoin. There are a few simple steps to carvingbeads. 5. Steps to Carving BeadsThe first step is to get your carving tools.Then youll need to find some wood. Then the fun begins You just decide what youre going to carve and thenput the metal to the wood! 6. What you need Either a knife or a chisel Some small pieces of wood Some ideas of what to carve Protective gear 7. The tools I use This is my Kobalt Razor that I started carving with and it is my favorite tool to use!I always make sure toprotect my fingers andhands. 8. Ideas for beads Try anything and everything! Get ideas from a local jewelry store. Write or sketch a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing! 9. Where to get materials There is an endless supply of free wood for you to use if you keepyour eyes open! Find fallen branches Keep your eyes open for free wood There are many stores you can buy different kinds of wood from 10. The materials I use I have bought some wood from a store, but that can get expensive for just my hobby, so I prefer to use the branches I pick up around town. 11. My unfinished beadsThese beads show all the steps I take to carve abead. 12. How to finish the beads Once you have cut the bead you sand it and then addthe details with your chisel tools. After stylizing the bead you stain it the shade youprefer. Make sure the bead is free of splinters and the stain iscompletely sealed in so its safe to wear! 13. What do you do with your beads?
