Hymn: TiS 229 – JESUS LOVES ME

1. Jesus loves me, this I know, and the Bible tells me so; little ones to him belong, in his love we shall be strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so.

2. Jesus loves me, this I know, as he loved so long ago, taking children on his knee, saying, ‘Let them come to me.’ Yes, Jesus loves me ...

3. Jesus loves me still today, walking with me on my way, wanting as a friend to give light and love to all who live. Yes, Jesus loves me ...

Greeting: The Lord be with you. AND ALSO WITH YOU. (see Ruth 2:4)

Prayer of Preparation: As we gather as God's people let us pray together:

God of love and peace, you know what we think and feel. Touch our hearts that our thoughts and actions may be good so that we may love you and honour you, through Jesus Christ our Lord, AMEN.

The Summary of the Commandments: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as yourself.’

5

The ConfessionLet us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's forgiveness.

God of mercy and grace, we have sometimes thought wrong things, and done wrong things and we have not always loved each other as we should. We are sorry. Forgive us and help us to love and obey you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Absolution {Celebrant}Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Gloria – Ushaw Setting (Alan Rees)

CHOIR: Glory, Glory to God, Glory to God in the highest, ALL:

and peace to God’s people on earth.

Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.

7

Prayer of the DayO God, your Son has taught us that we must receive your sovereign rule like a little child: help us to turn to you in faith and simplicity of heart, so that we may receive your blessing and enter the kingdom your Son has promised; through the same Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV)

First Reading: Hebrews 1:1-4 (CEV)

Long ago in many ways and at many times God’s prophets spoke his message to our ancestors. But now at last, God sent his Son to bring his message to us. God created the universe by his Son, and everything will someday belong to the Son. God’s Son has all the brightness of God’s own glory and is like him in every way. By his own mighty word, he holds the universe together. After the Son had washed away our sins, he sat down at the right side of the glorious God in heaven. He had become much greater than the angels, and the name he was given is far greater than any of theirs.

Response: Hear the word of the Lord, THANKS BE TO GOD

Psalm 26:1-3, 121 Give judgement for me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity:I have trusted in the Lord and not wavered.2 Put me to the test, O Lord, and prove me:try my mind and my heart.3 For your steadfast love has been ever before my eyes:and I have walked in your truth.12 My foot stands on an even path:I will bless the Lord in the great congregation.

WE STAND FOR THE READING OF THE HOLY GOSPEL AS A SIGN OF RESPECT AS WE GREET OUR LORD WHO IS PRESENT IN HIS HOLY WORD.

The Lord be with you AND ALSO WITH YOU

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Mark chapter 10 beginning at the 13th verse.

GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Some people brought their children to Jesus so that he could bless them by placing his hands on them. But his disciples told the people to stop bothering him. When Jesus saw this, he became angry and said, “Let the children come to me! Don’t try to stop them. People who are like these little children belong to the kingdom of God. I promise you that you cannot get into God’s kingdom, unless you accept it the way a child does.” Then Jesus took the children in his arms and blessed them by placing his hands on them.

Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Offertory Hymn: TiS 658 – HERE I AM, LORD

1. I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry. All who dwell in dark and sin my hand will save. I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord; is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night; I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.

2. I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people’s pain; I have wept for love of them. They turn away. I will break their hearts of stone, give them hearts for love alone. I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send? Here I am, Lord...

3. I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame, I will set a feast for them. My hand will save. Finest bread I will provide till their hearts are satisfied. I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send? Here I am, Lord...

He’s the children’s Saviour, he’s the children’s friend, a very special person, and his love will never end. He’s the children’s Saviour, he’s the children’s friend. He’s the Lord, and Jesus is his name.

2. Whenever I am lonely or whenever I am sad Jesus comes to cheer me up and make my heart so glad. He’s got to be the nicest friend that I have ever had: he’s the Lord, and Jesus is his name. He’s the children’s Saviour, ...
