Course Description:The past years have brought dramatic changes in the way that organizations manufacture, market, and deliver their products and services. The Internet, along with lower trade barriers, have created opportunities to design, mar-ket, produce and deliver products and services in entirely new ways.

As a result, businesses are dependent on increasingly long supply chains from a variety of sources. But this has led to a much more brittle business model that is subject to a single point of failure. Supply chain resilience has become a central component of business continuity.

Supply chain resilience requires much more than a traditional ‘business recovery plan.’ The special demands for resilience need to be built into the very strategy of the outsourcing process. Continuity planers now need to understand the many new reasons for supply failure, whether it sudden or gradual, local or international, in quality or quantity. This highly practical and interactive class brings together the concepts of risk, continuity, relationship and supply chain management within the context of modern day business strategy.

Course ObjectivesParticipants are expected to have some experience and understanding You will come away from the course:

Able to recognize the supply threats and how to manage these threats.

Able to get advice to the corporate board to enable decisions about risk and impact before outsourcing relationships are contracted and irreversible.

Able to judge which of the organization’s critical dependencies may be out-sourced; including the intellectual assets, brand values, operability, commu-nications, compliance and other legalities, business control and other single points of catastrophic risk.

Able to evaluate a third party’s risk and continuity planning systems against internal organisation dependencies.

Able to audit, benchmark, and exercise supply chain continuity plans.

Certification and Accreditation The course concludes with a multiple choice exam. Successful passing of this exam earns the participant a Certificate in Supply Chain Risk Management accredited by ICOR. David Kaye’s textbook, “Managing Risk and Resilience in the Supply Chain” is included in the course materials.
