Imago Dei

Who We Are.

Founded by Jamie and Jeremy Wells in 2001, Imago Dei is a team of highly skilled artists and artisans that share a common passion to create exceptional works of art by engaging both living and working environments. By creating collaboratively, the Wells have established a working lifestyle for their team of artists where camaraderie, integrity, and trust allow for a freedom of creativity that translates into their exceptional work.

What We Do.

Located both in Houston and Austin, Texas, Imago Dei’s expertise and unique character has given them an edge in the fi elds of fi ne art, custom murals, architectural fi nishes, and large public art installations. Their reputation of consistent professionalism, comprehensive artistic abilities and styles, and elegance in design has grown exponentially in the past few years.

Murals. With an Imago Dei mural, lifeless spaces become charged with the energy of a romantic or historic setting, building the focal point of conversation in your home. There are infinite styles that can be commissioned from highly realistic trompe l’oeil style paintings to more whimsical, playful, or abstract works. Our designers and artists can help you create a tasteful and compelling design around your vision.

Direct Installation.

Direct installation allows our artisans to create original works of art painted straight onto most surfaces using the same techniques as the old world masters, adding great value to your home or commercial space.

Murals on Canvas.

A convenient and less imposing option for both residential and commercial locations are custom canvas murals. These are completed in the studio, require a quick on-site installation, and can be reinstalled at a new location if you move. We encourage you to be a part of the visionary process by visiting the studio regularly throughout the mural’s creation.

Digital Murals.

Whether using paint or pixels, our artists use the latest technology to create compelling and cost effective artwork. Digital works are designed site specifi c and are installation-ready. Many modern murals you might see in coffee shops, restaurants and public spaces are in fact created this way and then printed on wallpaper material.

Tile Murals.

Custom tile murals for bathrooms, kitchens, fountains and backsplashes are a wonderful way to add a splash of art to water-sensitive areas. Whether you are looking to simply embellish a tile surface or add a new piece to your collection, Imago Dei’s designers will help bring your vision to life.

Finishes. We take pride in the unique and creative quality of our finishes. From clean, elegant, and simple to bold, striking, and daring, our highly skilled artists are capable of creating any treatment that suits your style. We research, test, and experiment with the finest materials in order to push the limits of decorative finishing to an entirely new level. Imago Dei utilizes only the highest quality, and greenest products available.

Texture Treatments.

If you are looking for a durable and authentic European texture treatment - look no further. Imago Dei installs texture treatments on countless projects, creating an authentic look from the moment it’s completed. These fi nishes come in many different standard aggregates from very smooth to very rough.

Mica Plaster.

A faux-texture product that features a smooth soft feel with an alluring metallic luster, our low VOC Mica Plasters can be tinted to most any color and vary from a subdued natural look to more lively and colorful hues. Mica is a mineral silicate known for its shiny fl akes. When combined with a natural binder and mineral pigments, it makes an extremely durable and dazzling plaster.

Lime Plaster.

Lime Plaster is an economical, environmentally friendly, and durable texture that withstands the elements. Unlike cement based plasters, lime is breathable, absorbs carbon, and enables water to naturally dissipate from the walls. As a testament to the durability of lime plaster, just look at its history — some of the earliest known examples of its uses can be found in the Egyptian Pyramids and the Great Wall of China.

Venetian Plaster.

Venetian plaster has a multi-dimensional, two-tone appearance that adds spectacular visual interest and unique character to the surface. Smooth, polished or unpolished, the end product looks and feels like natural stone because the materials used for Venetian plastering are composed from real limestone and marble powders.

Sculpted Concrete.

Concrete treatments create the perfect effect when applied to creative and whimsical spaces. Until recent years, concrete could only be applied thickly on horizontal surfaces. The invention of vertical concrete has given rise to a world of creative solutions. The possibilities of decorative concrete fi nishes range anywhere from believable natural stones to modern low-relief murals.

Stenciling.

Imago Dei’s designers create custom stencils that allow our artisans to decorate surfaces with any pattern, color, and texture systematically and effi ciently. Because we design and produce each pattern in-house, the creative possibilities are endless.

Metallic Paints and Glazes.

Thousands of micro-mica fl akes suspended within metallic paints and glazes produce a luxurious sheen, similar to the natural luster of a polished pearl. Our low VOC metallic paints and glazes are extremely versatile in application, and can be applied indoors and outdoors to produce beautiful, shimmering effects with luminous undertones.

Faux Treatments.

faux |fö| — French, literally false. Transform any interior or exterior surface into a richer and more exciting one. Our highly skilled artists are capable of closely mimicking a vast array of textures and surfaces such as: rough natural stones, smooth cool marbles, lustrous metals, fi ne imported wood, and plush fabrics.

Anaglypta.

The term anaglypta comes from the Greek and means raised ornamentation. This style of wall covering has been around for more than 100 years. It began to increase in popularity and availability outside of Europe in the late 1900’s. Anaglypta paper is fi rst applied to the surface, then artists create a unique hand-applied decorative fi nish over the paper’s raised texture.

Gilding.

The fi rst gilding seen at Rome was after the destruction of Carthage when the Romans began to gild the ceilings of their temples and palaces. This beautiful technique process has withstood the test of time with its genuinely radiant luster and breathtaking depth. Metallic leaf may be added to just about any relatively smooth surface from furniture to vaulted ceilings.

Glass Bead.

Glass beads create a beautiful shimmering texture, that refl ects light in myriad directions. Dazzling beads are suspended within a clear gel medium, allowing the colors and patterns of underlying layers to shine through. This treatment can be stenciled, brushed or troweled onto just about any surface — including curved and angular surfaces. The fi nal product looks spectacular in all settings and is extremely durable.

Cabinetry and Furniture Finishes.

Attention to detail is a key aspect of achieving a professional antique look. Distressing is done in such a manner to replicate normal wear over centuries of use. Imago Dei’s research of historically accurate furniture fi nishes and decorative painting features allows our artists to carefully replicate the color, gilding, styles and glazes of years past.

Art.Commissioning an art piece from Imago Dei allows you to express yourself through the hands of our classically trained artists. We include our clients in every step along the way. In order to thoroughly understand your vision, our designers and artists will collaborate with you, discussing every detail and aspect of the project. Our fine art gallery is also a great resource for original artwork ready to be displayed in your space.
