From the Vicar’s Desk
Dear Immanuel Family, Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ- The name above all Names( Phil 2:9). We Have entered the tenth month of the year. As we draw closer to the end of a year let us look back and thank God for all that He has done for us. Last Sunday(Sept 24th ) We had a lectionary theme - "Christian Witness among other Faiths". I just wanted to reflect upon this theme through this message. There is no enough space here to go into details but i just intend to trigger healthy discussions about this subject in the coming days. Here in the US we live in a social set up where there people of all faiths and those of no faith at all. There may not be too many venues where we have to discuss, defend or engage in dialogue with people of other faiths. Still i have seen some of our Youth conference sessions engaging into very strong discourses when it comes about Faith and other faiths. We can see Hoardings and Signboards here with messages comparing and questioning Faith traditions. We live in a world where taking a "terrorist stand" for Jesus or Christian Faith is much appreciated and falsely ad-mired. Unfortunately many who take such stands are people who have not lived in close social association with people of other Faiths. Religious pluralism is a given reality and Christian witness in its midst is a great challenge. The world sees the Indian church as a model for meaningful christian witness over the centuries of its faith journey in the midst of re-ligious diversity. Even when her counterparts in the east were persecuted, the Indian church grew peacefully and in harmony, thanks to the accomo-dative and peace-oriented outlook of the Indian Society. This model has implanted in us some values and a world view of peaceful coexistence . Let us witness Christ in the world of multi voices and diverse faiths up-holding the supreme name at the same time Not negating our brothers and sisters. This is only possible through the "Humility in Incarnation" as giv-en in Phil 2:6-11. What the wounded world needs is not Christian fighters for Divinity but Incarnate Human Beings. Peace be with You Unnithanachen
Kauma Prayer
All our worship services begin with Kauma. Why we start all our prayers with Kauma? What does it mean? Why it is so important to us? Kauma prayer begins with
Glory be to the father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. The prayer commencing by glorifying the Holy Trinity: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Eastern Churches always begins and ends every prayer in Holy Trinity and it is the core of our Faith. The response is ―as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be forever. This shows the eternal existence of God. The next portion is telling about the filling presence of the Glory of God.
Holy Holy Holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of Your Glory. Hossana in the Highest. This we can see in the Bible, Isaiah chapter 6. Heaven and Earth are full of God‗s Glory and we the worshippers are praising God and feeling the divine presence.
Blessed is He who has come and is to come again in the name of the Lord. Hossana in the Highest. The prayer further ex-plains the eternal existence of God, the one who was, is and will be is recalled. This is taken from the book of Revelation chapter 1: 8. This Lord, was, is and will be, the fundamental of our Faith.
Kauma prayer can be divided into three. 1. Trisagion 2. Litany 3. Lord’s prayer
Trisagion is the Christological proclamation and prayer to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Usually we recite Trisagion three times. Holy week, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday we
use alternate trisagions. The second part Litany is supplications and praise. It be-
gins with the prayer, ―Lord have mercy up on us‖. We use alter-nate litany prayers during Holy week.
The last part of Kauma is the Lord‘s prayer. 1. Trisagion Holy art thou, O God - Meditation on the Holiness of
God. The first revelation of God to Moses affirmed Holiness of God. Holiness of God is the basic of all the attributes of God.
Holiness of God is a corrective for us, mentoring for us to be.

Mrs.Mary Joseph,77years old, sister of Mrs. Ponnamma George ID # 219 and aunt of Mr. Sam Thomas ID # 236 of thr carmel prayer group, passed away on September 6th at Anchal, Kerala. Our member, Mrs. Anju Thomas, 42 years old, wife of Mr. Ajay Thomas, ID # 276 of the Ebenezer prayer group, passed away on September 27, at Sugar Land. The Vicars and members of the Immanuel Mar Thoma Church, at this time express our sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Let us keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
Holy art thou, Almighty God. God as almighty is the bib-lical affirmation after the defeat of Pharaoh. The mighty kings, principalities, powers can rule us but cannot reduce our life, they can disturb us but cannot define us. When the weak person trust in the power of Almighty, He or she is relieved.
Holy art thou Immortal Lord. Immortality is the affirma-tion of the above, the beyond, or the transcendental dimension of God. Here the focus is on the mortality of worshiper and the im-mortality of God. Immortality of God is the meditation of wor-ship, as it tells the finite nature of human.
Crucified for us , Have mercy on us. The lord being cruci-fied is the focus. In contrast to the focus of the previous medita-tion here it is the redemption of the finite by the love of God is the key . The Kauma prayer is a dedication service. The convic-tion that lord came and crucified for me is the alphabet of faith.
2. Litany The next three prayers are beseeching the mercy of God.
God 's mercy is the reason for us to sustain. The trust in the mer-cy will take away pride and fear. The dependence on the mercy make us humble. The trust in the mercy , should make us more humane.
The next set of three prayers are glorifying God. The prayer offers glory to God the Creator , the Redeemer. Every time we say this we endorse that God is the author of our life. Also we endorse that chapter of life are yet to be written , God the redeemer has not done with us.
3. Lord’s prayer The Kauma Prayer ends with Lords Prayer as the apex
prayer. The Lord's prayer give the best logic of prayer. The Lords prayer is the highest form of human prayer as it is taught by Jesus Christ.
The Kauma Prayer needs a careful reciting . The more careful we are , the more effective it will be . The more genuine we are in this, it will gift us healing and hope.
The Kauma prayer summaries biblical in the most con-densed way . We have keep it recited as many times as possible. The word Kauma means blessed standing .
The prayer is meant to be chanted in standing posture.

Gandhi Jayanti
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the father of the na-tion of India was born on October 2 - 1869, and the en-tire nation will celebrate his 147th birth anniversary on next Monday. Mahatma Gandhi drew praise for his con-tribution around the world so much so that his birth– date is celebrated as ‗ International Day of Non-violence‘. Mahatma Gandhi was conferred the title of ‗Mahatma‘ by the legendary Rabindranath Tagore, who won the nobel prize for literature in 1913 and who wrote the national anthems of India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Few famous quotes of Gandhi : ―Prayer is the key of the morning and the bolt of the evening —— An eye for an eye make the whole world blind —- The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong —- Without Action You aren‘t Going anywhere —- Where there is Love there is Life— A man is but the product of the thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes — There are people in the world , so hungry that God cannot appear to them ex-cept in the form of Bread‖
