THANK YOUDear Friends,
More than 20 years ago, ACES began with a bold vision and a unique approach – close the academic achievement gap through after-school tutoring designed to bring together academics and athletics.
The mission of ACES is now more important than ever. State testing reveals that 60% of elementary school students in Minnesota are proficient in math and reading. Unfortunately, the same testing shows that students of color and of lower economic status, specifically those in the Minneapolis and St. Paul Public Schools, perform at significantly lower levels. We are all invested in the livelihoods of these youth. The vibrancy of Minnesota’s economy is at stake.
You have invested in these special and talented kids, and for that I thank you. By supporting ACES, we can collectively work towards our goal of closing the achievement gap.
With your financial support, ACES was able to provide an extra academic boost to over 800 students last year. Operating 18 programs in Minneapolis and St. Paul, ACES still remains the only out-of-school program in the Twin Cities that brings together math, social-emotional learning, and sports leading to overall academic improvement and more engaged and successful kids.
Your donations helped ACES implement an inspiring new hands-on curriculum, focused on maximizing student engagement and participation. ACES students also participated in over 20 learning
experiences. They toured stadiums, attended sporting events, and visited college campuses. While students participate and learn during ACES programming, they heighten their math and social- emotional skills and have fun in the process!
We look forward to an exciting and promising2016-2017 school year with continued growthand commitment to positively impacting the livesof more students. In January of 2017, ACES willembark on an exciting new endeavor-bringingACES after-school programming to kindergartenand first graders!
Thank you for being a part of our team. Together we will make a brighter future for ALL Minnesota youth!

My favorite part of ACES is the projects and fun games, but my favorite project was last year when we made the boats and raced them. ACES has helped me the most academically by helping me with homework. Without help from ACES, I would not be able to measure angles and answer trick questions on my homework.
Thank you for letting us go on the fun field trips and thank you for supporting us in ACES!
RACHELNYC TEACHING FELLOWFormer ACES Site Leader
ACES prepared me with so many tools to succeed as an educator. I learned a lot about myself as an educator and developed a lot of skills that have been useful in my current role. At ACES we always did our best to keep kids engaged while creating a safe environment.
ACES is a unique program that not only offers students somewhere to go after school, but it offers an amazing staff, the opportunity to learn some cool things, and meet some impressive people.

I have been with ACES since 4th grade, and my favorite part is when we get to do homework before school. I also like the teachers; they’re fun to talk to. My favorite field trip was when we went to the Vikings facility.
Without ACES, I wouldn’t be able to finish my homework, get good grades, or talk and hang out with the teachers and students. I also think that ACES helps me stay out of trouble. ACES has helped me be successful in school.

MCA scores give insight into the stark disparities between students of varying economic status and racial backgrounds. ACES aims to eliminate this achievement gap by providing additional academic support to students in traditionally under-served areas.
As an organization our goal is academic and social-emotional growth. We know that learningbest happens when students are engaged and confident in their ability to learn. Our unique program model fosters engagement in math and social-emotional learning through the lens of sports.
