Information about junk food.

– More than 13,000 McDonald's restaurants in the United States itself, and over 8000 KFCs in 80 countries, only goes to reflect theThe truth of the matter is that many of us are addicted to fast food. The assertion that many of us are addicted to fast food might raise controversy among ‘addiction experts’ but examining the relationship most of us have with fast food (which in the American case, means fries and burgers), there is no doubt that all the major hallmarks of addiction are present.

CHILDREN AND JUNK FOOD

•Healthy nutritious foods have been replaced by the new food mantra - JUNK FOOD!

Junk food comprises of anything that is quick, tasty, convenient and fashionable. It seems to have engulfed every age; every race and the newest entrants are children. Wafers, colas, pizzas and burgers are suddenly the most important thing. The commonest scenario is a child who returns from school and plonks himself in front of the television, faithfully accompanied by a bowl of wafers and a can of cola. Children suddenly seem to have stepped into a world of fast foods and vending machines, totally unaware of the havoc they are creating for themselves

DANGERS OF JUNK FOOD

•Remember, junk foods are empty calories. An empty calorie lacks in micro-nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, or amino acids, and fiber but has high energy (calories).

•Since junk food is high in fats and sugars, it is responsible for obesity, dental cavities, Type 2 diabetes and heart diseases.

•A junk food has little enzyme producing vitamins & minerals and contains high level of calories. When we eat these empty calorie foods, the body is required to produce its own enzymes to convert these empty calories into usable energy. This is not desired as these enzyme producing functions in our body should be reserved for the performance of vital metabolic reactions.

DANGERS OF JUNK FOOD

•Fried and processed food, particularly fast food, contains high amounts of oxycholesterol, reports Scientists from China in the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in August 2009. Oxycholesterol is a little-known type of cholesterol which may prove to be the lethal to heart health.

•Most of the times these junk foods contain colors that are laced with colors, those are often inedible, carcinogenic and harmful to the body. These foods and their colors can affect digestive systems, the effects of it emerging after many years. Studies have found that food coloring can cause hyperactivity and lapses of concentration in children. Children suffering from Learning Disabilities are often advised against eating food with artificial coloring. Chocolates, colas, flavored drinks and snack tit bits are full of artificial coloring.

Addiction……..• You know that you are addicted to something,

for instance, when you find yourself ‘feeling out of sorts’ whenever you cannot get it, and there are indeed people who are so into their fast food, their burgers and fries, that they actually feel somehow ill whenever they can’t get them. You also know that you are addicted to something when you find yourself wanting to quit using it, and where try as you may, you still find yourself indulging in it…the said potentially harmful effects of it notwithstanding.

• And this is indeed a predicament that many fast food addicts find themselves in, when upon noticing that they are becoming overweight (with all potential health hazards that come with being overweight), they still find themselves unable to stop compulsively partaking of the fast food, which inevitably contributes in a big way to their weight woes.

De-addiction of Fast food Having identified the reality of fast

food addiction, however, it turns out that there are no rehabilitation programs aimed at helping people overcome this very common addiction. People trying to overcome fast food addictions have to work on their own to get rid of this potentially distressing condition…and it can be hard dealing with this kind of things without some sort of a guidance and support system.

• So,

Well, the first key to overcoming a fast food addiction would be acceptance of the fact that one is indeed addicted to the fast food – a reality which surprisingly many people are unwilling to accept. It is only when you can accept that you are faced with an addiction that you can actually start dealing with it in a way which that is likely to make success easier. And because most of us really partake of fast food because of its supposed ‘deliciousness’ you can consider substituting it with healthier yet quite delicious alternatives, if only to indulge your ‘sweet tooth.’ popularity of fast food all over the world.

A matter of concern..• There is nothing more than ready-made

food that a hard working professional living in the city away from family could ask for. However, those who are against fast food highlight the adverse effect that it has on our health. Despite all the debate about the advantages and disadvantages of fast food, the industry is flourishing.

Junk food leads to hangout

• . Family meal time is something that is considered as an opportunity for all the members to come together and share their experiences. However, the fast food centers are quickly eating into this quality time. This is especially true about youngsters for whom a fast food center is a good place to hangout with friends and peers.

Fast food is an invention of the modern times. Ready-made food being served fast and right in front of us is like a blessing after a hard day's work. However, like everything, it has its own pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages of fast food also exist. Citing a few points about the advantages of fast food does not mean that I am denying its drawbacks. However, by making some smart choices while placing the order and also resorting to an active lifestyle, we can definitely minimize the drawbacks of fast food.
