AASTI Automation SRL, company founded in 2002, is one of the youngest members of ASTI group. Since 1990, when the first ASTI company was established, ASTI has been a constant promoter of the most advanced automation systems in Romania.

Currently, the company is acting in industrial automation field, participating in projects in sectors such as oil and gas, automotive, food industry, chemical industry, urban utilities.

Since 2007, the business of the company has been extended through active involvement in increasing the quality of technical education in college and university. The company develops didactic equipment related to approved programs of study, taking into account the current technological level encountered in main industry sectors. The portfolio includes didactic equipment for specific technical fields, integrated laboratories mainly for technical universities as well as for companies acting in the industry, training sessions for students or postgraduate courses for professionals in the industry.

Since 2011 ASTI Automation is Siemens SCE partner for training material and a full member of WORLDDIDAC, the global trade association for the education industry.

ConceptA quality educational process in the technical domain can be provided only by using modern didactic resources, combined into a single framework where the student learns practical skills with direct application in the industrial environment. For this purpose a structure for workspace framing and equipment placement is suggested.

The laboratory is intended to allow carrying out practical experiments on different types of equipment similar to those used in industry, embedded in didactic structures whose size is suitable for laboratory study. The images show a suggested layout draft for the furniture and the laboratory equipment.

The didactic structures are accompanied by notebooks for experiments, practical results and answers for solving the exercises.

The laboratory provides the support needed for theoretical presentations (basic principles of electronic and automation equipment).

The didactic panels integrate different NI data acquisition modules for electrical and non-electrical parameters (e.g. temperature, pressure, flow) measure. Processing and data visualisation are done through structures such as LabView software from National Instruments.

The system enables students to implement a control logic for an application basically for an assembly station with two axes.

Includes:- Vacuum gripper;- Pneumatical rodless shuttle cylinder (for horizontal movement) with end position sensor and analogue ultrasonic sensor;- Pneumatic double-acting cylinder used for vertical movement (with inductive sensors for end positions);- Linear unit based upon an electrical motor and a screw, for sideways movement (with end position sensors and encoder);- Parts storage device with a pneumatical feeder (for assembly parts);- Electropneumatical valves, connectors, power supply and relays on DIN rail;- Buttons with lamps.

Operating scenario:An empty box from the storage device should be feeded, extracted and placed on the loading place using the vacuum gripper. The next step is loading the box with a number of balls. After loading, a cap is placed over the box. The assembled box is transported to the dumping area and removed.

MECHATRONICs

Testing Station

Training SYSTem

The system enables students to implement a control logic for a testing station which basically consists of three slides that handle cylindrical parts that sometimes should be “tested”.

Includes:- Pneumatic cylinder used to supply the station with parts from the top slide;- Pneumatical rodless shuttle cylinder (for vertical movement between the slides) with end position sensor and analogue ultrasonic sensor;- Vacuum gripper;- Pneumatic cylinder used to tilt the middle slide;- Belt conveyor that takes the tested part;- Pneumatic cylinder that eliminates the part from the belt conveyor;- Electropneumatical valves, connectors, power supply and relays on DIN rail;- Buttons with lamps.

Operating scenario:From the top slide the parts are fed into the station using a double cylinder. An “elevator” that consist of a pneumatical rodless shuttle cylinder brings the part (fixed by a vacuum gripper) to the next level. When the ‘elevator‘ reaches the lowest slide, the vacuum gripper releases the part and it rolls to the end and it is twisted to come standing on the belt conveyor. In the end of the belt conveyor the parts are pushed down. If a test is ordered the ‘elevator‘ brings the part to the middle slide. If the part are OK it is brought back in the system by lifting the slide with a doubleacting cylinder.

Storage STAtion

Training SYSTEMThe system enables students to implement a control logic for a station that allows storage and recovery of nine pieces grouped into three groups of three identical items.

Includes:- Pneumatic finger-gripper with sensor for objects detecting;- Pneumatical rodless shuttle cylinder (for vertical movement) with end position sensor and analogue ultrasonic sensor;- Linear unit based upon an electrical motor and a screw, for sideways movement (with end position sensors and encoder);- Pneumatic double-acting cylinder used for advancing the gripper (with inductive sensors for end positions);- Belt conveyor that moves parts;- Electropneumatical valves, connectors, power supply and relays on DIN rail;- Buttons with lamps.

Operating scenario:The station consists of a storage rack with 3 levels. The parts are picked by a finger-gripper with a sensor that detects if there is a part in place in the rack. The gripper is moved in and out, up and down and sideways.The parts are left on a belt conveyor that takes them out.

The training panel integrates a digital PID controller (ATR171 or BTC9100). The equipment allows accustoming with the automatic control structures.

Process control

ASTANK 2 is an integrated platform for control techniques in systems engineering. It is designed to enable the application and testing of identification and control methods on a real process with non-linear behaviour, described by fluid dynamics. Process control

The system is designed to highlight the various defects that may occur in bearings so that it can be possible a predictive maintenance of such mechanical elements. The main activity required is to measure the frequency of machine vibrations. In this way it is possible to determine when a machinery is not working properly. The system consists of mechanical structure where a variable speed motor drives a shaft with a flywheel. The shaft is secured at both ends in two ball bearings. Vibrations are introduced by unbalancing the rotating flywheel with different masses mounted on.

Process control

Inverted pendulum system is an ideal experiment platform for teaching control theories and conducting various control experiments. Many abstract control concepts, such as the stability and the controllability of a control system, can all be shown visually through the inverted pendulum system. In addition to educational purposes, an inverted pendulum is also a research area to many researchers for modern control theories. Hardware platform is based on PC and DSP-based motion controller. It provides simulation support in Matlab Simulink toolbox, for performance of controller evaluation and improving the control system directly. The open architecture allows connection to other equipment.
