Orientationwill be set to Portraitby Default.

The change will be immediately made to the document. To close the window, simply

click on the xin the upper right hand corner.

Now you can move on to creating your document.

Step 02: Create RectangleThe first thing that you will add to this Flyerwill be a Rectangle.

Go to the Toolboxon the left and select the Rectangle Tool.

Notice that this will change the Rectangle Tool Controls Bar, which is locatedabove the Flyer/Canvas.

You'll see that the Widthand Heightboxes are grayed out.

Draw a Rectangleanywhere on the canvas.

The Rectanglewill have 3 Handles(2 squares, 1 circle)on 3of its corners.

The Circular Handleallows you to adjust the Roundnessof the Rectangle

Corners.

The Square Handlesallow you to adjust the Rectangle's Widthand Height.

However, instead of adjusting the Dimensionsby sight, we will use a moreprecise method.

Step 03: Object SizeNotice that the Widthand Heightboxes of the Rectangle

Tool Controls Barhave changed to allow you to edit

the Rectangle's Dimensionsdirectly.

Go up to the Width Boxand enter 8.5 Inchesand set Heightto 4.5 Inches.

Next click on the Select Toolfrom the Toolbox.

Select the Rectangleand drag it to the bottom

of the Flyer.

The Selected Rectanglewill have 8 Black

Arrowsaround it. These are also used for

Scalingand Skewingthe Shape.

Step 04: Edit Fill & Stroke ColorLet's now edit the Fill & Stroke Colorof this Rectangle.

With the Rectangleselected, move your cursor over the Maroon Coloron the Color

Palettebelow and click to set the Rectangle Fill.

Then right click over the same Colorto reveal a menu.

Select Set Stroke.

So the Rectanglewill now be a Solid Maroon Color.

Step 05: Convert to CurvesWith the Rectangleselected, go to the Toolboxand select the Edit Paths by

Nodes Tool.INKSCAPE PATHS TOOL CONTROLS BAR

Notice the Paths Tool Controls Barbecomes visible.

Click on the Convert Selected Object to Path Icon.

Four very tiny Grey Nodesbecome visible

around the Rectangle.

Step 06: Add NodesWhile pressing your left mouse button down, drag your cursor over both Nodeson

the Top Left & Rightside of the Rectangle.

The selected Nodes change from Grey Squaresto Blue Green.

On the Controls Barselect the Insert New Nodes Into Selected Segments

Iconor as I like to say Add Nodes Icon.

Clicking this Icon once will add a Nodeto the middle of this Line Segment.

Click a second time to add 2 more Nodes. Click on any white area to deselect

these Nodes.

Step 07: Adjust Line SegmentSelect the Right Node. On the Controls Barset the Y Coordinateto 6.2

Inches.

The Nodewill be moved higher than the other Nodeson this Line Segment.

The Line Segment

Curves.

Set the Y Coordinateof the 2nd Nodeof this Line Segmentto 4.7 Inchesand make

its X Coordinate 2.6 Inches.

Drop the Y Coordinateof the 3rd Nodeon this Line Segmentto 4.3 Inches.

Select the 3 Middle Nodesagain and click the Make Selected Nodes Auto

Smooth Icon.

Now we have a new Custom Shape.

Step 09: Create DuplicatesLet's create 2 Duplicatesof this shape. Select the Maroon Shapeand hold down

your Ctrland D Keystogether to create 1 Duplicate, then repeat.

Another way to create a Duplicatewould be to go to

the Menu Barand select Edit > Duplicate.

A third way would be to select the Duplicate

Selected Objects Iconfrom the Commands Bar.

Even though its not easy to see, know that your

Duplicateshave been created.

They have been placed behind the Original Shape.

Move 2of the shapes away from each other.

Change the Fill and Stroke Colorof the First

Duplicate to White. Set the Secondto Black. Use

the Color Palette at the bottom.

Step 10: Arrange OrderSelect the White Shape. Go up to the Select Tool Controls Bar. Select the Lower

Selection One Step Icon.

This places the White Shape below the other 2 Shapes.

Next select the Black Shape.

Click the Lower Selection to

Bottom Icon.

The Black Shapebecomes

the Bottom Layer.

Step 11: Insert Circles

Select the Circle Toolfrom the Toolbox. Draw a Circleon

the page.

The Circlehas 3 Nodes(2 Squares Nodesfor adjusting

Heightand Widthand a Circle Nodeto create the End Points for

an Arcor Segment).

Click the Select Tool, and set the Circle's Widthto 2.96 Inches.

The Circlewill have the Last Colorsused for Fill and Stroke. So in this case,that Colorwill be Black. Change the Fillto White.

Select the Fill and Stroke Iconfrom the Command Bar.

This opens the Fill and Stroke Docker.

You will see Tabsfor Fill, Stroke Paint

and Stroke Style.

Select the Stroke Style Tab.

Set the Widthto 0.06 Inchesand hit your Enter

Keyto see the change.

Create3 Duplicatesof this Circle.

Change the size of one of the Duplicatesto

2.02 Inches.

Set its Stroketo 0.05 Inches.

Place this Circlein between the larger two.

Set the Last Duplicate's Sizeto 2.3 Inches,

with a Maroon Fill.

Place it in the desired location on the Flyer.

Next we can add Imagesto the Flyer.

Step 12: Royalty Free ClipartThe Royalty Free Clip Artin the Yoga Class

Flyer was downloaded fromClker.

The Clip Artis calledLots of Yoga Poses.

When you go to the Clkerwebsite to download

this Image, click on the SVG Linkbelow

the Imageso that you can save the SVG

Formatof the file.

Once the Imagehas been downloaded, you will need to place it into the Yoga Flyer.

Step 13: Import ImageTo Importthe Imagego to the Menu Barand select File > Import.

one of the CornerArrows, hold your Left

Step 14: Ungroup ImagesOn the Commands Barclick on the Ungroup Selected Groups Icon2 times.

Click in any White Areato deselect the Images.

Select and move the Images needed

for this Flyer closer together.

You can Deletethe

remaining Images.

Select all 3 Imagesand give them a Black

Fillinstead of Blue.

Place each Imagein a Circle.

Step 17: Insert & Format TextLet's start with the Title Text. Select the Text Toolfrom the Toolbox.

Click the Down Arrowon the Font Family Listand

scroll up to find the Advert Fontand select it.

Right next to the Font Family Boxis the Font

Size Box. Type in 125and hit your Enter Key.

Next highlight the word "Class", set its Fontto

Arialand Sizeto 110.

Then make it Boldby selecting the Bold

Iconnext to the Font Size Box.

Give the "Yoga" Texta Maroon Fill. Then select

both words and give them a White Stroke.

Step 18: Add Drop ShadowUse the Select Tooland click the Text. On

the Menu Barselect Filters > Shadows

and Glows > Drop Shadow.

This opens a Drop Shadow Windowwith

settings for Blur, Opacityand Offset.

You can check the Live Preview Box to

see a Previewof the Drop Shadow.

Set Blurto 2.0Opacityto 80%,

Horizontal Offsetto 8and Vertical

Offsetto 8.

Click the Apply

Button.

You don't only see the Drop Shadow, but also the White Strokeis now visible.

Step 19: Add & Format TextThe Fontused for the Bottomof

the Flyerand the Red Circle isArial,

Size 32, Fill Color White, Bold.

Centerthe Textin the RedCircleby clicking

the Center Icon.

"Relaxation" Textis set to Font

Desyrel, Size 40, and Centered.

The words, "Mind, Body, SoulareFont

Desyrel, Size 64, Fill White, Stroke

Black.

There you have created an eye-

catching Yoga Flyerwith Inkscape.

You see what this does for the Flyer.

All that's left to do is Save.

Step 20: Save File

On the Menu Bar, select File > Save.

This opens the Select File to Save To Window.

Here you'll give your file a Nameand click the Save

Button.
