Design Thinking Exercise 1: Stakeholder Empathy

Before you can build something you must:

a. Identify your stakeholders

b. Understand each stakeholder

Simple Definition: Allowance a person or

organization with money that gives money or

asset to a person (you) to be used to purchase,

invest, donate… at a store, organization,

individual, institution (you can create your own

“currency”)

Choose 3 stakeholders (users) and empathize.

After you select your stakeholders (family

member, organization, teen, organization), divide

your group into 3 sub groups and assign

describing, empathizing understanding that

stakeholder related to allowance and technology

You will build an app for stakeholder(s) in next

exercise

Design Thinking Exercise 2: Design your App

Innovate, Disrupt, Inspire – Don’t Be Shy

The Potential Investor will be here in 20 minutes –

hey just came from a meeting with Google,

Amazon and Facebook, where they were early

investors.

When they called from the jet, they said they

*can’t wait to see what you’ve got – Oh, and it has

to be “mobile”

Assignment: Create a prototype using markers

and materials to create mobile device describing

your app.

Prepare to show and describe your awesome app

– and why it is so, so awesome in a 3 minute

presentation

3 minutes – or less – no exceptions…*this is the

‘can’t wait’ part… Good luck! Have Fun!

Stress is fleeting

Results

1. 6 amazing presentations (who knew you

could draft 6 innovative concepts presented

as multi-stakeholder, mobile first, social apps

from concept to prototype in 150 minutes?)

2. 2 presentations were investment worthy as

presented

3. Very bright people + aspirational method +

competition + time pressure = amazing

results

Unexpected Benefits

4. Company volunteers requested same session

for their departments to accelerate workers

understanding of modern technology &

digitization

5. 4 adult volunteers sent resumes seeking IT

positions with company
