It’s that time of year again… hospitality’s big-gest end of season bash is back and at a NEW location with bigger events, more drinks and

lots of fun!The In The Biz® End of Season bash will no

longer be held at Bahia Cabana--- but directly on the beach at Bamboo Beach Club & Tiki Bar in the Ocean Manor Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. With two great days- Monday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 17- the hospitality industry is invited to un-wind and party with their fellow co-workers and friends after a long season.

More than 20 vendors- beer, liquor, giveaways and more- will be on hand for the two days start-ing at Noon, then a delicious BBQ buffet from 2 pm to 4 pm. Monday will continue with a fun volleyball competition and other games, includ-ing beer pong, Jenga, and much more around 3 pm. Following at 4 pm is the popular bikini con-test with prizes for best bikini bod. At 8 pm on Monday night, the ITB® Hall of Fame alumni are invited to an awards cocktail party at the Ocean Manor Hotel penthouse. This is the perfect time for the alumni to mingle and reminiscence.

On Tuesday, all the fun and games will be

back! Vendors will offer more liquor tastings and giveaways

for bar owners, bartenders, wait-ers, and all industry employees. On

Tuesday, there will also be a special Flair competition by FlairBar.com with a

chance to win cash prizes. Both days will offer 25% off drinks and food at

Bamboo Beach Tiki Bar, and hotel stay discounts! The End of Season Bash has been held in Is-

lamorada in the Keys but having it in South Florida will bring it back to its local roots! Be-sides the fun, the bash also provides the perfect

atmosphere for networking among hospitality workers.

“The End of the Season party is about sup-porting people in the hospitality industry and thanking them for a whole year of service,” said Carey Suissa, Publisher of In The Biz Magazine®.

Bamboo Beach Tiki Bar is the perfect venue for this party. “We have the ‘in the Keys’ feeling without being in the Keys. It’s perfect because there’s plenty of space, it’s a classy establish-ment, and we are located right on the beach,” said Michael Orlando, General Manager for Bam-boo Beach Club & Tiki Bar.

See you on the sand at the famous End of Sea-son Bash!

Be sure to check out these events to kickstart your summer of entertainment!

If you want to cool down this June, bring your friends to one of these summer blockbusters! “Maleficent” is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal- an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom— and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well. In the film, The Fault in Our Stars, Hazel and Gus are two extraordinary teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them – and us – on an unforget-table journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that they met and fell in love at a cancer support group. In ‘Think like a Man Too, the highly anticipated sequel inspired by Steve Harvey’s best-selling book Act Like a Lady, Think

Like A Man, all the couples are back for a wedding in Las Vegas. But plans for a romantic weekend go awry when their various misadventures get them into some compromising situations that threaten to derail the big event.

In the film, ‘22 Jump street’, after making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don’t have to just crack the case - they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them. In ‘edge of Tomorrow’, when Earth falls under attack from invincible aliens, no military unit in the world is able to beat them. Maj. William Cage (Tom Cruise), an officer who has never seen combat, is assigned to a suicide mission. Killed within moments, Cage finds himself thrown into a time loop, in which he relives the same brutal fight -- and his death -- over and over again. However, Cage’s fighting skills improve with each encore, bringing him and a comrade (Emily Blunt) ever closer to defeating the aliens. ‘Jersey Boys’ is a musical biography of

the Four Seasons- the rise, the tough times and personal clashes, and the ultimate triumph of a group of friends whose music became symbolic of a generation. Far from a mere tribute concert (though it does include numbers from the popular Four Seasons songbook), Jersey Boys gets to the heart of the relationships at the center of the group- with a special focus on frontman Frankie Valli, the small kid with the big falsetto. In addition to following the quartet’s coming of age as performers, the core of the show is how an al-legiance to a code of honor learned in the streets of their native New Jersey got them through a multitude of challenges: gambling debts, Mafia threats and family disasters. Jersey Boys is a glimpse at the people behind a sound that has managed to endure for over four decades in the hearts of the public. ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ is about five years that have passed since Hiccup and Toothless united the dragons and Vikings of Berk. Now, they spend their time charting the island’s unmapped territories. During one of their adventures, the pair discover a secret cave that houses hundreds of wild dragons -- and a mysteri-ous dragon rider who turns out to be Hiccup’s long-lost mother, Valka (Cate Blanchett). Hiccup and Toothless then find themselves at the center of a battle to protect Berk from a power-hungry warrior named Drago.

InTheBiz®

Bartender of the Month

My name is Rochelle, some people call me “Roro”, I am originally from San Antonio, Texas

I work at 4:30 Boardroom Bar and I have been bartending for 12 years now, but I have been InTheBiz® for 13 years.

When I am not at work I like to watch movies, I make jewelry (and sell it on Etsy), I enjoy hanging out with my friends and going to live music events at Unity 88. Skate boarding to the beach is another of my favorite things to do, and of course hitting up my local bars!

I became a bartender because I always wanted to get paid to socialize and have a good time so I found a way to do it. Plus I love having a good time and what better way to spread that love.

I’m a Texas girl so a beer and a shot of whiskey would be my drink of choice!

I think I am a good bartender because I am able to multitask such as carrying on a conversation while making multiple drinks. Plus I’m super social ;) And have a degree of patience!! With a minor in sarcasm.

As a bartender I like to offer words of wisdom to newbies, so my advice to a bartender just starting out would be to be patient, and be yourself, always remember to leave your problems at the door, the customer is out to get away or celebrate their lives not to hear all about yours. And most of all have fun!

My favorite drink to make would probably be A Hawaiian Iced Tea, with my least favorite being anything frozen or muddled..

Well that is all about me, come see me at 4:30 Boardroom Bar and mention this article, maybe I will even autograph your copy of the magazine!

Management takesBamboo Beach Tiki Bar & Tokyo Blue to new heights! By Nicol JeNkiNsEditor

Customers will have much to look forward to this season when they visit the Ocean Manor Hotel, which is home to both Bamboo Beach

Club & Tiki Bar and Tokyo Blue.

Located right on breathtaking Fort Lauderdale Beach, both restaurants and bars have much to offer to their guests and locals--- and now manage-ment will be adding more items and special events to wow customers.

Tokyo Blue is the only sushi bar and restaurant where you can dine on mouthwatering sushi rolls while overlooking the water. Besides their already well known menu and popular cuisine, Tokyo Blue has added new features to their menu and new management, who are experienced in the hospital-ity industry, to take the restaurant a step above.

Adrian (Ace) Torralvo, the new General Manager for Tokyo Blue, has many years of experience in the industry. He has managed Galanga Thai Kitchen & Sushi Bar, Tee Jay Thai Sushi, and other restaurants. Adrian will bring his expertise to making the sushi bar and restaurant an even better place to dine and hang out with friends. They are looking to add more staff to continue to make their customer service the best in the business. Tokyo Blue will also continue its most popular night on Wednesdays, which offers $49 all you can eat Maine lobsters. In addition to their delicious sushi rolls and seafood, steak and more menu, Chef Mai, from the land-mark Miami Asian restaurant Nobu, will incorporate more specialty items on the menu.

“There is no other place where you can eat sushi and overlook the ocean. There are a lot of sushi restaurants but they don’t have the option of a full liquor bar,” said Adrian, adding, “Guests will always have a great experience at Tokyo Blue. We don’t only have Thai and sushi on the menu but a full menu of Peruvian food, seafood, and steaks.”

The Ocean Manor Hotel is also home to spec-

tacular events and is a perfect location to host your special day. Such as weddings, receptions to anniversaries, birthday parties, Sweet 16 parties, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, showers, corporate events, charity fundraisers and networking events, Ocean Manor is your one-stop shop for all your special oc-casions. The dedicated events team, including Enza Di Natale Cooper and Kacee Natale, guide each of their clients through the event planning process and make sure that their day runs smoothly. Hosting countless events at the location, they are experienced in the field and alleviate any worries of their clients. They will take care of everything including the minor details on each event and party. The events staff at Ocean Manor truly works for you and will personalize your party so it makes a lasting impression. You can have your event at mul-tiple locations inside or outside the hotel, including the Starlight Ballroom, our 4,000 sq ft penthouse with panoramic views and one of the only places you can have a beach-side wedding. They can even bring a portable tiki hut to your event, inside or outside of the venue.

More events are also something that patrons can look forward to at Bamboo Beach Club & Tiki Bar. Start marking your calendars now for charity events, DJs, Happy Hours, Ladies Nights, themed events, VIP parties and much more, according to

Michael Orlando, General Manager for Bamboo Beach Club & Tiki Bar.

In addition, Adrian Ace Torralvo and Tokyo Blue will be hosting the new Sunday Cabana Parties, which will be held every Sunday from noon - 6 p.m. at the Cabana Deck with $100 bottle specials, a brunch menu, sushi and omelet stations, DJs and more.

Ocean Manor and the two restaurants will have a more upscale look and atmosphere. The hotel rooms are being completely renovated and updated. Michael will also continue to bring his hospitality expertise to the establishment. He has worked in the industry for many years at various hot spots, including the Ale House, Off The Hookah, Copacabana and more.

“Bamboo Beach Tiki Bar and Tokyo Blue is the hidden gem of Fort Lauderdale. We are located right on the beach. We have a tiki bar, sushi lounge and cabanas all on the beach,” said Michael, add-ing, “Our motto is it’s better at Bamboo Beach.”

Hospitality industry workers get 25 percent off their check every day! Be sure to check out the new and improved Bamboo Beach and Tokyo Blue this month!

Pay yourSELf fIrST Problem: At the end of the month, most people don’t have anything left to save.SolutIon: At the first of the month, before you pay anyone else, write a check to yourself for 10% of your income.Paying yourself first may be the single most important concept in this series of article’s.

Its Not What You Earn, Its What You KeepPut yourself at the head of the line. Treat your savings like any

other recurring bill that you must pay each month. Dedicate the appropriate amount from your paycheck and set it aside. While most people think nothing of sending enormous amounts of money to credit card companies on a regular and systematic basis, they balk at the idea of paying themselves first! Change that mindset. Cut up your credit cards and put those payments into your own saving. Make a commit-ment to pay yourself first!

Calculate how much you’ve earned- and how much you’ve saved.Average annual income (estimate): A)Times number of years worked: x B)Equals total amount earned = C)Amount of personal saving D)Divide D by C = E)This equals your percentage of income saved.

To have a complete savings program, most people need three types of accounts.

1. eMergenCY FunD: This is your reserve fund in the event of a un-foreseen emergency, job loss or an unexpected expense. A good rule of thumb: Set a goal of having three to six months’ salary in your emer-gency fund.

2. sHOrT-TerM sAvIngs: This account is for the money that you set aside for expenses you want to purchase within a short-term time frame. For example, here is where you would save for a new computer or perhaps a vacation.

3. LOng-TerM sAvIngs/InvesTMenTs: This is where your retire-ment savings will go. Because these savings have more of a long-term time horizon, you can use investment vehicles with a potential for a higher rate of return, such as equity mutual funds.

Entertain your customers by mixing it up with

‘flair Bartending’ By Nicol JeNkiNs EDITOR

Juggling or flipping bottles, flame throwing tricks and bar magic are just some of the ways you can spice up the night at your bar.

Flair Bartending continues to take bartending to the next lev-el and bring more money to bartenders and bar owners. The wow factor of the tricks keeps customers at your bar much longer and keeps them coming back and bringing friends to see the show.

“Flair Bartending creates an unparalleled energy behind the bar that instantly attracts and connects your guests enjoying a shared experience. It creates a unique conversation starter for your guests that would otherwise be searching for the right words to start a conversation,” said Rob Husted of Bar Wars LLC, adding, “The hap-pier people are at a bar, the longer they stay and the more money they spend, making the venue and the bartender more money. It is a great tool to entertain your guests for very little financial cost. You can get a Ketel One and cranberry at the bar down the street, or you can come into our bar and order that same Ketel One and cranberry for the same price but be entertained with a higher level of service.”

But it’s not as easy as it looks… Not anyone can just instantly flip a bottle like Tom Cruise’s character in the film, Cocktail. Flair bartend-ing takes a lot of practice and dedication to the trade. But it can pay off with big tips! Customers would rather see an attentive bartender with flair and will frequent that bar more often than others.

“Most professional Flair Bartenders spend thousands and thou-sands of hours practicing at home in their garages, backyards, parks and beaches for the few short minutes you get to see them on stage. I can’t think of another profession (besides a professional athlete) that on their time off continues to work and become better at their craft, while constantly honing their skills and raising the bar for themselves with their level of service, knowledge and entertain-ment,” said Rob.

Rob will bring his business, Bar Wars LLC, and Flair Bartending fun to the End of Season Bash to be held on June 16th and 17th at Bam-boo Beach Tiki Bar in Fort Lauderdale. This is an event not to miss!

At the “End of Season” party at Bamboo Beach, they will focus on the entertaining side of Flair, as well as the craft of Mixology. Bar-tenders will be on stage entertaining attendees with Flair, while still making quality craft cocktails showcasing Finest Call Premium Mixes’ new “REAL” craft bar line of “fruit infused syrups’.

“It’s going to be a great showcase of what professional bartenders are capable of today and how you can benefit from incorporating Flair and Mixology in your venue. Flair Bartending adds an instant recipe for a successful party at your event with people that have a disposable income and aren’t afraid to spend money and have a good time. Add to that the element of competition, pumping music, networking and camaraderie that is hard to beat!” said Rob.

Don’t miss the outrageous Flair Bartending Tricks at the End of Season Bash at Bamboo Beach on June 17th at 4 p.m.

end of season Bash will be held at ocean Manor Resort’s Tiki Bar June 16th and 17th starting at noon each day. To reserve your space or your room please call 954-566-7500

So it’s no surprise that bartender Kelsey Roberts fits right in. Her bubbly and upbeat personality draws new and regular custom-ers back to Capones on a daily basis.

“I love my customers, the environment and the people I work with at Capones,” said Kelsey.

to talk to her regular customers and get to know them.

“I smile and just have fun with them. I always have good energy because no one wants to go out and have bad energy. Some customers come in every day, it’s the industry and they share their stories!” said Kelsey, adding, “The perks of being in the industry are the benefits of getting to know people. Everyone helps each other out, and it’s fun! I have a lot of regular custom-ers, and the atmosphere at Capones is very lively.”

Core

Miami heat advance to fourth Consecutive nBa finals

spORTs

By AlleN leViN sPORTs EDITOR

Even with all the trials and tribulations that the 2013-14 regular season pre-sented to the Miami Heat, they were able

to withstand the challenge and obtain their ultimate goal: Play for a NBA Championship.

The Heat battled injuries, advanced age, media naysayers and motivation issues to ad-

vance to their fourth consecutive NBA Finals, something that hasn’t been done since the Boston Celtics did it from 1984-87.

Miami knocked off the Indiana Pacers in six games in the Eastern Conference Finals and have a chance to make history if they can win their third straight title.

The Heat are set to play the San Antonio Spurs for a second straight year in what will be rematch of their epic 7-game series from last season.

If the Heat can top the Spurs again, Miami will become just the fourth franchise to pull off a “three-peat,” joining the legendary likes of the Celtics, LA Lakers and Chicago Bulls.

It wasn’t always easy for the Heat this season after they finished with their worst regular sea-son record in the Big Three era and came into the playoffs as the two seed. While they were still the favorites in the Eastern Conference, skeptics questioned if they could advance past

the Pacers and if they had fallen off from last season’s historic run.

Despite the noise, the Heat steamrolled through East competition, taking a 12-3 record into the championship round and staying rela-tively unscathed.

Still, there is a lot of work to do for the two-time defending champions as they look to complete their quest to become back-to-back-to-back trophy winners.

The Spurs present a lot of challenges and will be hungry after last year’s devastating loss that saw Ray Allen hit a Game 6 three-pointer to tie the game in the closing seconds and ultimately lift the Heat over San Antonio in seven games.

Regardless of the outcome, Heat fans should relish the fact that the team already made history by just returning to the NBA Finals for a 4th straight time. And with a little more good fortune, they could cement themselves in his-tory as one of the best teams ever.

Miami Dolphins strong Draft Class hoping to shore Up last Year’s Issues

Heading into the 2014 NFL draft, the Mi-ami Dolphins had some widely known issues that they needed to repair from

last season.

After second-year starting QB Ryan Tannehill was pummeled at the line last year, record-ing the most sacks against him in the NFL, the Dolphins knew they needed to protect their quarterback.

So, the focus of the draft was to get better at the line as well as shore up some other holes.

In the first round, Miami selected offensive tackle Ja’Wuan James from Tennesee with the 19th overall pick. James is supposed to make an impact immediately and help protect Tannehill’s blind side.

The other O-Lineman that the Dolphins

picked was Billy Turner from North Dakota State in the third round. He could take a while to develop but he is a good sleeper pick who had a strong collegiate career.

Some of the team’s other early picks were a bit perplexing, such as LSU wide receiver Jarvis Landry, who the Fins took in the second round.

Considering the Dolphins have one of the deepest wide receiver corps in the NFL, it seemed they could have taken another need that high in the draft. However, Landry had three great years with the Tigers and can be a good slot receiver for the Fins.

The Dolphins took cornerback Walt Aikens from Liberty in the fourth round, while taking tight end Arthur Lynch from Georgia in the 5th round.

After that, the Dolphins took three small school players in the final rounds that they are hoping will be hidden gems, including a WR, a

defensive end and linebacker.

As of right now, it’s too early to tell how the Dolphins performed in the draft. This draft class has a lot of potential, but that doesn’t matter until we see results on the field.

At the very least, we can assume that Tanne-hill will be much more protected this season at the line with the 6’6” 311-pound James looking out for him.
