Those who work InTheBiz® recently celebrated the end of the season with their co-workers and friends.

Many hospitality industry employees attended the 2nd Annual In The Biz® End of Season Bash recently held at Bamboo Beach Club located at the Ocean Manor Hotel in Fort Lauderdale.

Hospitality tents with liquor samples, giveaways, promotional items and more lined the outside deck at Bamboo Beach. The event also offered a chance to mix and mingle with friends and fellow hos-pitality employees and to sample new liquors. In addition, there was much fun and games, including a volleyball tour-nament, Jenga, a buffet, and their famous Bikini Contest!

Those who work in the service industry need a reason to party it up with fellow co-workers and unwind after a long season of making drinks and working hard. Bar owners, bartenders, liquor representatives, travel com-panies and other business employees showcased their products to those who work in the business.

“This year’s End of Season Bash was better than last year’s event. We had more attendees and twice as many sponsors,” said Michael Orlando, Director of Marketing at Bamboo Beach and Ocean Manor Resort. “Similar to Bartenders Bash, this End of Season party was for everyone in the industry to let off a little steam and have a good time. Also this year, we focused on making it a hospitality only event.”

DJ Gio of Barfly Entertainment said he attended the event because “I get to hang out with my people.”

Scott Weissman, Banquet Captain of Harbor Beach Marriott, attends the End of Season party every year to “mix and mingle with the ITB® crowd!”

Daniel Safirstein, bartender at Pumas Sports Bar located at America’s Got Soccer, came out to the event for the “great people, great vibe and the sun!”

Many hospitality focused businesses also participated by handing out samples and other giveaways at the event.

Joe Callahan, Founder of BusttheBottleCap, showcased his unique bottle openers. “The End of Season Bash is great because it gets everyone together in one place.

We always see each other behind the bar, but here we can hang out and enjoy each other,” said Joe.

Sakred Nightclub, which recently opened in Boca Raton, gave away some free drink tickets to attendees. “We wanted to come out and get our name out there. We are a new nightclub with many renovations and we offer an intimate venue,” said Mike Sakred, Floor Manager at Sakred Nightclub.

Kevin Caricato, owner of Triple B, The Sports Barn, Sterling Beverage and Wiley Street Pub, stated, “We came to the event to promote our bars, support the local establishments and have some fun in the sun!”

Steve Sudlow, Field Sales Rep of Blue Chair Bay, offered samples to the hospitality crowd.

“This event is a great opportunity to build the ITB® footprint and to introduce our products to the industry,” said Steve.

The industry employees also donated to a great cause called the Peanut Butter & Jelly Project, which helps feed the homeless and service disabled vets.

“We do a lot with the hospitality industry and many events. We are working on get-ting a transitional facility to get them off the streets and to help them find jobs,” said Micah Harris of the Peanut Butter & Jelly Project.

The attendees had a great time and look forward to another hospitality season!

Where do you work? I work at the very busy SANDBAR, on Ft. Lauderdale Beach.

What is your position? They call me BOSS MAN!

What made you start working InTheBiz®? I started out guest bartending at different locations and I liked it so much that I decided to make it a permanent gig.

What do like best about your job? The best part of my job is having my friends visit me so I can get them DRUNK.

What is your favorite Drink? My personal favorite drink is Beer … I like to bloat

What is the most ordered drink at your bar these days? I would say that the most ordered drink at the Sandbar is Jack/Fire shots, which will mess you up real fast!

What is the craziest thing you have seen happen at the bar? I can not reveal names, but one time I was outside speaking with a police officer that was working detail for the bar. As we were chatting, cups, napkins and other various items were being tossed off the rooftop and landing on the patrol car parked out front. The officer and I hurried to the rooftop to see what was happening and when we arrived we may or may not have witnessed a midgets feet getting set on fire….

Cathy Cappillino is an angel to the many aban-doned dogs that were left in the Everglades to survive on their own.

She and her team of volunteers rescue dogs in the Everglades and find them homes through the non-profit organization, Everglades Angels Dog Rescue.

“Our mission is to end the suffering of the aban-doned dogs in the Everglades and surrounding ar-eas,” said Cathy, a Board Member of the Everglades Angels Dog Rescue.

The non-profit organization fully vets the rescued dogs, treating them for any medical condi-tions, spay/neuter, Microchip, and then they find the dogs loving homes.

Everglades Angels Dog Rescue was founded in February 2014 and since then, they have rescued 170 dogs.

“Four of us started the organization. We were all previously volunteering with different rescue groups in the past and we decided that we wanted to start an all volunteer organization. All the money raised goes solely to the dogs and we wanted the mission to be rescuing dogs in the Everglades area, which is mainly Southwest Dade,” said Cathy, adding, “It is a horrible epidemic in those rural areas because people are dumping dogs out there instead of taking them to a shelter. They think the dogs will survive but there is no food or clean water source and the dogs can become prey to the hawks and bobcats.”

The epidemic of abandoned dogs is growing every day.

“It gets worse and worse every day and all the rescue shelters are becoming full. We need funding to help pay for the abandoned dogs’ vet bills and food. Our organization fully treats them and reha-bilitates them, and then we find them homes and

give them one month of pet insurance,” said Cathy. “Adoption of a healthy, well adjusted dog is vital to our mission in preventing future abandonment.”

The Everglades Angels Dog Rescue currently has 22 dogs in their care that are looking to be adopted by a good owner or family.

“It’s amazing seeing them come in and be so defeated and so terrified and then after our volun-teers spend time with them, you see a complete turnaround of an amazing loving dog that is loving and happy. There is no better feeling in the world to see a dog happy and in a loving home,” said Cathy.

Each month, the organization participates in the Dogs, Beaches and Brews event at The Parrot Lounge in Fort Lauderdale, which is held the last Friday of each month. Visit https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dogs-Beaches-and-Brews/. They also have fundrais-ing events at Kelly’s Irish Bar on July 18th, and Alibi in Wilton Manors on August 26th. In addition, they have adoption events at different pet stores through-out Broward and Palm Beach County each month.

They are also always looking for volunteers to help at the boarding facilities to play and socialize with the dogs, help at fundraisers, and help to raise awareness for their cause.

For more information on Everglades Angels Dog Rescue, visit http://abandoneddogrescue.org/. You can also visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/EvergladesAngelsDogRescue.

University of Miami Baseball falls short in College World series

sPOrTs

BY ALLEN LEVIN sPorts editor

Us Women’s National Team advances to World Cup Semifinal

The 2015 Women’s World Cup is going to plan so far for the United States Women’s National Team.

The team is back in the World Cup Semis after Carli Lloyd became the ninth player to hit 200 caps in U.S. history.

A second half goal from Lloyd in the Round of 16 lifted the Americans to a 1-0 triumph over China and sent them to the Semis.

USA will now take on Germany on Tuesday, June 30 in a Semifinal matchup in Montreal (as of the writing of this article).

The Americans have looked strong in the 2015 World Cup, having gone 4-0-1 in their slate through Canada.

The squad, playing in Group D, AKA the “Group of Death,” opened up with a 3-1 against Australia. After a 0-0 draw vs. Sweden, the Women’s Team pulled out a narrow 1-0 victory over Nigeria.

Another shutout, a 2-0 win against Colom-bia, advanced USA to the Quarterfinal match vs. China and left them undefeated in the Group stage.

And the 1-0 victory versus China gave the Americans their 4th consecutive shutout of the tournament.

As of the writing of this article, Hope Solo and the USA back line have now held op-ponents scoreless for 423 straight minutes in this year’s World Cup, the longest clean sheet streak in U.S. World Cup history.

The USA is the only country to reach the Semifinal in all seven Women’s World Cups.

The USWNT will continue their quest for the Gold when they take on Germany.

Keep up with InTheBiz Magazine for up-dates on the Women’s National Team.

A special year for the University of Miami Baseball team fell just short of the ultimate prize.

After reaching the College World Series, No. 5 Miami got routed 10-2 by the University of Florida in the elimination game at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.

Despite the loss, the Hurricanes posted their

first 50-win season since 2008, a campaign that included Miami’s second straight ACC Coastal Division title and 24th College World Series trip in program history.

Miami reached the CWS with a sweep of VCU in the Super Regional by notching a 3-2 and 10-3 win in Coral Gables.

The Canes began the World Series with a 15-3

loss to the Gators. Miami recovered with a 4-3 over Arkansas, before ultimately getting elimi-nated by No. 4 UF.

Florida was able to beat Miami 2 out of 3 times, but ultimately lost as well, meaning both Sunshine State programs just short of the prize.

Regardless, it was a great season for UF and UM, especially the Hurricanes, who have had a few rough seasons in most major sports.

The Canes were led by David Thompson, who belted 19 homers and 90 RBIs, as well as Zack Collins, who posted 15 homers and 70 RBIs in the 2015 season. As far as pitching, Andrew Suarez and Thomas Woodrey led the way.

Overall, it will be looked back as a successful season as the Hurricanes finished the 2015 season at 50-17.
