Introducon If you are thinking about donang to a registered polical enty (polical party, constuency associaon, candidate, nominaon contestant or leadership contestant) or planning to aend a fundraising event held by a polical enty, this guide provides an overview of the rules set out by the Elecon Finances and Contribuons Disclosure Act (EFCDA). What is a contribuon? A contribuon is a donaon of money, real property, goods or services, or the use of real property, goods or services, provided for the benefit of a polical enty, without returned compensaon from the polical enty to the donor. What contribuons are disclosed? An individual who contributes more than $250 in any calendar year will have their name and contribution(s) publicly disclosed, as required by the EFCDA. The information is available on the Elections Alberta website and in the public files maintained at Elections Alberta's office. Fundraising Events Only a individual who is ordinarily resident in Alberta is allowed to purchase a ticket or pay admission to a fundraising event held by a political entity. A portion of the price paid is considered a contribution; the portion is set by the political entity based on EFCDA rules. Introduction

If you are thinking about donating to a registered political entity (political party, constituency association, candidate, nomination contestant or leadership contestant) or planning to attend a fundraising event held by a political entity, this guide provides an overview of the rules set out by the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act (EFCDA).

• Audit and professional services provided freeof charge for work relating to compliance withthe EFCDA.

What is not a contribution?

A contribution is allowed to be made:

• to a political party at any time

• to a constituency association at any timeexcept during a campaign period foran election

• to a candidate only during a campaignperiod for an election

• to a leadership contestant only during acampaign period for the leadership contestant

• to a nomination contestant only during acampaign period for the nomination contestant

What if a contributor violates EFCDA?

Depending on the violation, Elections Alberta may impose penalties under the EFCDA that range in severity from a formal reprimand to prosecution and fine up to $10,000.

Are there benefits to contributing?

An individual who makes a contribution to a political entity will receive an official contribution receipt from that political entity, which the contributor can use to claim Alberta income tax credits.The following table shows available tax credits for contributions made in the same calendar year.
