The format is changing a little in that we will only have two guest speakers in the morning and a full, four hour mock cyber defense competition in the afternoon. We will have student volunteers helping attendees during the mock competition and will have different challenges and tasks for high school and college participants. Our student volunteers have been working hard to prepare our Cyber Stadium environment and creating a fun and exciting mock competition modeled after the official Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition events.

Our speakers include Tom Harness, a local business owner planning to discuss social media security, and Curt Wilson, a security researcher who will discuss the cyber threat landscape. These guys are experts in their fields and will be sharing their expertise during short talks. Student groups will also present some demonstrations

and tips to help participants during the mock competition. Lunch will be provided and we are hoping to again have t-shirts and some fun door prizes too. More info and the link to register for students and faculty attendees can be found here: http://isat.siu.edu/activities/cyber-days/cyber-security-day-2016.php

•   NSA Scholarship

IST is now set to begin registration for the second round of the SI3C NSA Cyber Scholarship program (Associate Professor Tom Imboden, IST Associate Professor). Please encourage as many students as you can to participate. Students who complete four short, online security labs and write an essay on security will be considered for one of eight $1,000 scholarships! Any student who will be enrolled at SIU or one of our partner colleges for the summer or fall semester can participate. High school students can participate too as long as they are enrolling in a college by fall 2016.
