Isle of Wight 2009

Page 2: Isle Of Wight 2009 Poem

Off we set for the Isle of WightAnd in the beginning we had a big fright,2 men in a boat were playing with deathWe sat on the ferry with abated breath.

We arrived at our little village of tentsAnd the anticipation was immense

We saw Lionel Ritchie who was a really good singer But when he took off his wig, he was a ginger

(Pronounced gin-a)After all that Mom said "Good Night"

But the 3 of us thought the time was rightFor the ultimate camping prize

A fire on the beach, but of a small size.

On Sunday, Ry took us to a view so highIt made you feel like you could fly.

From there a 2 mile coastal walk to a townThis seaside place comes with the name Sandown.

We gambled away all our 2p's Eating ice creams, as it was too hot for teas.

For the girls, it was way too far.Whilst waiting we sat on a bench in the sun

Had a good laugh - it was such fun.Giving names & occupations to passers by

Making sentences from car number plates - I know not why!Back to the camp for the boys

So they could play with their newly bought toysCrab nets with instructions so plainDon’t worry they were not in pain.

While the boy’s fought over whose crab was bestMom and I were on the beach having a rest.

All the fresh air and lots of sunMade us become a pair of beach bums.

From the hot, sunny start to our hols We woke on Monday morning looking like moles

With puffy, red, swollen eyes & facesWe blindly made our way around at slow paces

Although a hot showers & lotions helpedAt the slightest touch, we yelped

So we donned ourselves with sun cream & hatsAs we don't want to be amongst the skin cancer stats

We set off in Lee’s little carTo Ryan's "office" which was not too far

He showed us around his placeWhere he spends his days at a hectic pace

From go-carts to quad-bikesRock climbing to coastal hikes

From problem solving to scary heightsCircus skills to disco nights

Ryan is always nearTo help a child conquer their fear

He may work 24/7But to him, this is heaven

To him the children are such joyAnd the activities are great, the outdoor boy

We went to Scottie’s to buy a rod,Dad went for a wonder, the little sod Lee came back with a full carrier bag,Dad came back with a pie and a fag

Found a spot for the boys to fishDid they catch anything - Oh I wish!

So the supermarket it had to beFor some fish for the barbie

Hung up balloons for the birthday boyWho, after opening presents was full of joy

Chill out time for Mom todayWhile she relaxed at camp, we went out to play

The 3 of us went off to seeIf we could find a nice cup of tea

Long ridge Café is the place we foundWith a beautiful view on the high ground

Lee and I had a lovely mealAnd thought it was an excellent deal. Dad decided to have a tea and sconeUnfortunately it went horribly wrong

For him a cold tea cake without any jamDad thought it was a sham.

So onto the beach as the wind was blowingThe boys with their kites and faces glowing.

In the evening getting dressed up was quite an ordealFor we were taking Ryan out for a birthday meal

To the Windmill Inn we wentAnd the 5 sizzlers we had were worth every cent

Going down 2 x 2 on the rickety chairliftMade our descent to the beach very swift

Swaying to & fro high up on the chairThe view of the Needles was awesome from the air

On the pebbled beach down belowThe Needles had an amazing white glow

Here Lee & I walked hand in handMarveling at the different coloured sand

Getting something to eatTurned out to be quite a feat

A pie stand with no steak pies!We landed up indoors for some fries

Of course, souvenirs were a "must be"The best one found by Lee

Mitchell being "Who is like God”To believe that - we found so hard

Spooning different coloured sands just rightMade a perfect ornament from the Isle of Wight

We don't really know what fish like to eatSo Dad thought he would give them a real treat

By catching his finger on the hookHe hoped to get a fish to cook.

Lee went for a walk to ‘be with one’And when he came back we all had such fun

Lee had decided to give Mom a new name‘Mama Africa’ she was known, our wonderful

dame.Oh how we laughed all day and night

At this new name for Mom that had taken flight. On the Friday night we met Ry’s mates

Everywhere you looked were dirty platesThis is the place they call Raffle’s

How they all live together, it does baffle.

As we went to board the ferryOur emotions were far from merry

Seeing the Isle of Wight getting smallThere were lumps in the throats of us all

A wonderful holiday was had by allOn this beautiful island, so small

The whole week was just great funIt was the perfect week to relax

And we did that to the maxSo, was camping enjoyed by Lee?

If he does it again - we will have to seeWith all the snoring & early mornings he had to endure

I, myself, am not so sureDad and Ry had a competition to see

Whose snoring would be the one to keep up Lee.

Page 10: Isle Of Wight 2009 Poem

I took photos all day longMust have 500 strong

Wonderful sites on this island, for sureI could have taken a whole lot more

Each night Dad's face lit up with a smileAs he starts something he has not done

in awhileWe all know that this has to be

Well, of course, his beloved barbie’sWill I even go back there again?

Oh yes - given the chance, I'll be on the next plane
