PASTOR’S MESSAGE

On Saturday, February 11 we will once again celebrate our Ministry Volunteer Recognition Dinner. This event has a long history at Saint Joan of Arc and gives testimony to the history of our parish ministries as a constitutive dimension of our faith life. Ministry volunteerism in all of its many forms is the expression of lively faith and deep compassion. Each time that we extend ourselves in service of our neighbor, we imitate the love and miracle-working of Jesus and keep His saving presence alive today. We have some forty different opportunities for ministry service at Saint Joan of Arc and all have their place and value.

It is clear from the life and ministry of Jesus that being a follower of His required more that intellectual acceptance of His preaching and teaching. His "Good News" was a message of hope and courage that required the involvement of the whole person. His discipleship was no "armchair" discipleship or a "spectator activity". His discipleship requires action, engagement and the will to make a difference for the good and on behalf of truth. Christianity is above all else a faith of action and specifically sacrificial loving. Our prayer and our contemplative moments grant us insight, direction and interior strength for the purpose of loving. Jesus so often said "by their fruits you will know them" and he laid out a way of life that was both transformational and liberating. We are transformed when we love and we are liberated when we love.

Here at Saint Joan of Arc we make big differences in the lives of so many people by our ministry volunteerism. I hear testimonies daily from those whose lives have been enriched and assisted by our love in action. As we gather to celebrate the value and the goodness of ministry volunteerism, may we always be thankful to God for the privilege of being instruments of His mercy and grace. We also accept the challenge of being ambassadors for the importance of ministry volunteerism when we invite others to join a ministry or parish activity for the first time. We need to constantly recruit and support others in the ministries of service and assist them in joining and finding their unique way to contribute. Each of us should make it a point to supplement our presence with additional volunteers because the needs keep growing. Many gifts are needed to allow the Body of Christ to come to full stature. Together we are a living testimony to the power that generous love has to free and lift up all who are bowed down or in need. May God bless and keep all of the ministry volunteers of our parish and may the deep joy of the Risen Christ fill us all as we serve in his name.

- Monsignor Michael D. McGraw

FROM THE SJA MARRIAGE MINISTRY DIRECTOR

Are you and your spouse looking for a way that you can give time to the Church and do it together? Do you believe in the value of the sacrament of matrimony, and would you like to help engaged couples prepare for it? If so, please consider joining the Get Fully Engaged Program.

This program has been implemented for both English and Spanish speaking couples, this inventory incorporates Catholic teaching about Faith and marriage and utilizes a mentor or sponsor couple designed to help engaged couples solidify the foundation upon which they will build their Sacrament of Marriage together with Christ. This is great way to give a small amount of time in return for truly great rewards.

For more information please contact Deacon Bill Watzek at (561)-952-2828 or Rosario Gonzales at (561)-952-2854.

HOME CONNECTION: In today’s Second Reading, Paul urges the church in Corinth to agree in what they say, be united in mind and purpose. This unity in diversity is one of the beauties of the Catholic Church. All Catholics everywhere in the world are united under Pope Francis, Bishop of Rome. We share the same

beliefs, the Sacraments and the liturgy. Anywhere in the world and in any language, the Mass is

the Mass. When traveling, especially in different countries, make it a point to go to Mass on Sundays

and see how the Church is united in its worship even as we are diverse in our cultures.

POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER INTENTIONS

FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY

CHRISTIAN UNITY:That all Christians may be faithful to the Lord’s teaching by striving

with prayer and fraternal charity to restore ecclesial communion and by collaborating to meet the challenges

facing humanity.

STEP 1 Gather your information about your assets, including retirement funds, bank accounts and real property.

STEP 2 Choose the type of bequest you’d like to make.1. Unrestricted bequest. This is a donation to be used for St. Joan of Arc general funds. This donation would be used where it is most needed.2. Restricted bequest. This donation specifies how the money is to be used. (This could be restricted to go into the endowment, a specific ministry, or the building fund.)A bequest can be made in a number of ways:• A specific dollar amount.• Specific assets, such as securities, real estate, or tangible property.• Retirement account assets, consisting of any benefits remaining in your retirement plan.• A residuary bequest, St. Joan of Arc receives all or a percentage of your estate after all other obligations are met.• An existing will or trust can be easily amended to include a gift to St. Joan of Arc without rewriting the entire document. Your attorney can prepare a simple document, called a codicil, which adds a new bequest while reaffirming the terms of your will. Similarly, an attorney can prepare an amendment to a revocable trust to add St. Joan of Arc.

STEP 3 Meet with your estate planning attorney. If you need to create a will or just update your existing document, you’ll want to get advice from your estate planning attorney.

An attorney can advise you as to the best way to structure your will in order to take care of your loved ones first and then your charitable interests while assuring the best tax benefits.

As a charitable, not-for-profit all bequests to St. Joan of Arc are fully deductible for estate tax purposes.

STEP 4 Contact us.We acknowledge and welcome donors into our Arc Angel Society. Members are invited to special member events and receive special mailings. (We also recognize and respect the wishes of anyone that wishes to remain anonymous.)

A quien temeré?

Atrévete a probarlo. Te aseguro que no te arrepentirás!!

Feliz Domingo.

Diacono Edgar Cáceres.
