A Message from our PastorDear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Happy New Year to all of you. I trust that the new year and the new decade start-ed off auspiciously for you and your loved ones. May it continue to be filled with light, joy and peace!

As we continue to celebrate the mysteries of the Christmas Season, the Church observes today the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord. Simply put, it is the man-ifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ to the nations. The kings, or the magi, represent the nations of the worlds. With their gifts, they acknowledge that Jesus, the new-born son in Bethlehem, is truly the king of all. Of course, the Bible mentions three gifts, but this does not necessarily imply that there were only three kings! There could have been more than three!

The kings were guided by a star that led them to ask the members of Herod’s court about Jesus. It is, however, through the word of the prophet that they learn where the newborn king was to be found. It seems then that God uses all kinds of signs, even non-religious ones, to stir our hearts to inquire about Jesus. And yet, if one is to find the Lord, one has to listen to him in his word in Scriptures. May our search for meaning always include consulting the written Word of God.

Finally, I would like to inform you that Ms. Rosemary Munoz retired at the end of the year 2019 as the associate director for children’s formation here at St. Cecilia. After many years of working in other parishes and here at St. Cecilia for about 14 years, she decided to retire to be with her children and grandchildren. We thank her for her dedication and tireless work with our children. It is our hope that the children formed during her tenure at St. Cecilia continue to grow the seeds of faith in their lives.

Our heartfelt prayers and best wishes accompany Rosemary as she begins to en-joy a new chapter in her life. May the Lord reward her with days filled with love and laughter surrounded by her children and grandchildren during her retirement years.

Let us pray for each other!

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Francis

Scarves and Hats MinistryDuring December, approximately 350 homemade and purchased neck scarves, hats and stuffed animals were delivered to the Mission of Yahweh, the Bristow Center and the Magnificat House for distribution to the people being served there. Thank you to all the ladies who knitted, crocheted and donated scarves, hats and yarn for this ministry of warmth. We were again joined by the ladies in the Common Threads Circle at Memorial Drive Methodist Church who continue to support our scarves ministry. The warmth of God's love has truly been shared with those less fortunate in our community.

This ministry is working all year to prepare these items to be delivered in December to our less fortunate neighbors. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Linda Kuper at [email protected]. We still have some yarn available at the church office if you need supplies to work on the neck scarves and hats for next year. Thank you again for your continuing support and assistance to spread God's love to all.

Incarnation in the Old TestamentThursday, January 30 at 7 pmCommunity Center

A major challenge in the contemporary church is how to relate the Old Testament to the New. For many, the OT is at best ignored, at worst rejected. Dr. Anderson will use the theme of incarnation as a means of seeing how the Old Testament can make a real difference in how we understand the New.
