Principal’s report Welcome to Week 7! I would like to say a big thank
you to our families and staff for the positive
manner in which you have moved to home learning
as we follow the public health orders and the DoE
requirements around this. An extension of the
lockdown, to at least Saturday 28 August, was not
what any of us wanted to hear, however rising case
numbers left everyone quietly resigned to the fact
it would happen to help limit transmission rates.
Our school continues to operate under Level 4
COVID-Safe operations. This means learning from
home, schools open for students who need it eg.
those of essential workers. I must reiterate to
parents and carers the need for students to remain
at home where possible. If you are working from
home and your child is able to be educated from
home, please keep them home. There is minimal
supervision on site. Staff are currently on a roster
and when not on site are working from home to
minimise their time spent in the community.
We have been busily preparing for the lockdown
extension and new home learning packs were
delivered to families yesterday. Students have
proven themselves to be most resilient as they
transitioned to home learning and commenced
assigned tasks. These tasks are designed to be
completed with minimal assistance from parents
and carers. If you require any support, please
don’t hesitate to phone the school (5886 1331 or
0492 865 842). As you can see on pg 3, students
are enjoying a range of activities and keeping fit!

Term 3, Week 7 Practical Parenting in a Pandemic webinar
The school has funded a webinar for parents and
carers to provide additional support at this time.
The webinar is being conducted by Maggie Dent.
She will explore the layers of stress, anxiety and
grief for families that have been created by the
pandemic. She then dives deep into the issues of
students learning from home. Maggie will explore
the reality of parents working from home with
kids or teens underfoot, with some doing digital
learning while in social isolation. This webinar
includes free resources and a handout. A link will
be provided to parents and carers via Operoo.
Vinnies available to support you during COVID-19
As the health and economic impacts of COVID-19
continue to be felt across NSW, many people
experiencing poverty and disadvantage are facing
additional financial pressure. At the same time,
households accustomed to making ends meet are
facing economic hardship for the first time.
Vinnies NSW is available to support our local
community. Their staff can provide assistance
paying bills, supplying food parcels, material aid,
housing and homelessness services, access to the
No Interest Loans Scheme, advocacy and referral to
relevant services. To connect with the assistance call
Vinnies Assist on 13 18 12.
Yesterday we farewelled our relief cleaner, Kelly
Taylor. Chloe Lochley commenced duties today. We
hope Chloe enjoys being part of the team.
Have a wonderful week! Nyree Taylor Principal

This Week’s Events – Book Week
This week is Book Week and students are asked to
embrace the 2021 theme, ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds,
Other Worlds’. A MoAD x STEM Ed Book Week
Collaboration of fun activities has been provided to
students to engage them with the theme during this
period of home learning.
Students are also encouraged to dress up as their
favourite book character and join us for a ‘virtual
parade’ at 10am on Friday morning via Zoom.
Costume ideas from schoolstream Some people love dressing up for Book Week and
have had their outfit ready since January. Then
there are others who feel their blood pressure
spike at the very idea of having to come up with a
costume. Whichever camp you belong to, you are
sure to find some no-fuss ideas here.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Greg from Diary of a Wimpy Kid (or DOAWK as it
is known to its enthusiastic fanbase) is an easily
identifiable character with his comic-book style
face. There are loads of masks available online to
download. For bonus points, make a pair of hands
too and attach them with hair ties
Anyone from The Bad Guys
Dress up as any of the main characters from the
beloved graphic novel series “The Bad Guys.”
Mr Shark, Mr Wolf, Mr Snake and Mr Piranha
require nothing more than a mask, a white shirt,
black tie, black pants and optional black jacket
and you’ll be good to go.
Anyone from Harry Potter
Conventional Book Week wisdom states that if
you don’t know who to go as for Book Week, pick
someone from Harry Potter. All the house shields,
ties and other Hogwarts related accoutrement are
available as free printable templates online. Team
with a white shirt and a black top tied backwards
in lieu of a cloak and you’ll be ready to cast your
first spell in a heartbeat.
Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games was a blockbuster and it’s safe
to say that dressing up as the heroine from this
wildly popular sci-fi series is an easy win for Book
Week. A brown/black/neutral toned jacket, a
black top, a mocking jay badge (there are plenty
of printables online) and a side braid if you have
long hair will finish the look. Cargo pants and a
bow and arrow are optional extras if you’re going
all out.

Winter uniforms The NSW DoE supports the wearing of a school
uniform which promotes a sense of belonging for
students and creates a positive identity for the school
community. School uniforms also contribute to the
personal safety of students by allowing easier
recognition inside the school and in the community
and to protect students from injury. JPS expects all
students to wear the uniform during school hours and
also sun-safe hats for outside activities. Royal blue
jackets are also winter uniform.
The P&C runs a uniform shop via the Office. We ask
that parents utilise this service so that students are
wearing clothing of the same style and colour. To
assist families, we also have a clothing pool of
preloved uniforms available free of charge. We seek
your cooperation in ensuring our students wear their
uniform each day. Nothing makes the staff prouder
than when students wear their uniform.
At JPS we wear our uniform with pride!
When buying your child new
runners for school, please try to buy
plain black or plain blue to blend in
with our uniform.
Thank you for your cooperation.
