State wide Transition Day December 12th

Next Tuesday will be the State Wide Transition day for all students attending government schools across

Victoria. For us, this means our Year 6’s will be heading off to their respective Secondary Colleges and

High Schools while all other students across the school and our incoming preps, will step up to their 2018

classes and meet their teachers and class mates.

We have had several enrolments in the past week pushing our current projections over 380. If you are

planning to move to or from our school in 2018, can I again ask that you please inform us so we can plan

for this eventuality. Please note: Classes have been put together in line with the CSPS class placement

policy.

Curriculum day Wednesday December 13th

Next Wednesday will be a curriculum day at Clifton Springs Primary School with staff working in their 2018

teams to prepare for the best start possible. Students will not be required at school on this day and

parents are asked to make appropriate arrangements for their care.

Welcome back to Miss McKinley Mrs Burnett

After a wonderful wedding in the Otway Ranges Miss McKinley now re-joins our staff as Mrs Burnett.

While Mrs Burnett’s students are already into the swing of things it might take staff and parents that little

bit longer to get used to the name change. Congratulations to Brooke and her new husband Joel.

Congratulations to Chris and Rachel Dunn

With the second of our staff weddings we also celebrate the marriage of our computer technician Chris

Dunn and his new wife Rachel who also got married recently. We trust that they had a wonderful day

together and are ready for the next part of their journey in life together.

Ghana Beat My Drum Incursion

While I was unable to see the African Drumming in person, I heard some great reports about it and saw

some great photos of the students engaging with our visiting presenter. Thank you to Mr Jones for

organising this incursion and we look forward to seeing our students take on the beats and rhythms of

Africa in their future work.

Clifton Springs has got Talent

Last week the Year 3/4 and Year 1/2 students were our first Clifton Springs has got Talent participants

when they took to the stage to test out their acts in front of their peers. The remaining acts in Year 5/6

will be performed in front of their peers this week and the final performers selected ready for the

Performance Extravaganza next Thursday.

Final School Council Meeting

This Wednesday will see our final School Council Meeting for the year and my final School Council meeting

at CSPS after 7 years as the executive officer. I am looking forward to seeing all our School Councillors at

this final meeting and sharing the success this year has brought us as a School Council and a school

community. Key items to be approved will be our 2018 Annual Implementation Plan and our 2018

Indicative budget, both of which see our school in a strong position in 2018. I wanted to thank the School

Councillors for giving up their time over the course of the year to take on this important role in the

leadership of our school. I wish them all the very best for 2018 and beyond, and know that they will play a

pivotal role in selecting the new Principal for CSPS next year.

CSPS Sporting Stars

On the back of Will’s outstanding performance over the previous week racing go karts in Los Vegas, this

week just gone saw Angus and Heather competing at the State level in Golf with Heather placing 10th

which was an outstanding performance. To even make to the State Championship is a great achievement

but to finish in the top 10 is wonderful. Well done Angus and Heather.

This week we tuned into the live stream of the Track and Field at the Pacific Games in Adelaide to see Oli

in full flight. Oliver took home a gold in the 4X100m Relay, Bronze in the 200m final and came 4th in the

100m Final capping off an amazing event for him. Well done everyone!

Woorabinda Camp

Our adventurous campers returned from the wilds of the Gippsland Forests this week with stories of

amazement and wonder after their week-long expedition to Woorabinda Camp. Miss Ritchie has also

returned this week with a huge smile on her face having had some wonderful experiences from attending

this camp with our students. It was very pleasing to hear her comment on how well the Clifton Springs stu-

dents displayed our Values while they were there. We look forward to being able to offer Somers 9 day

camp next year.

GHANA BEAT MY DRUM

INCURSION On Wednesday the 29th CSPS had the

great privilege of hosting Jonas from

Ghana Beat My Drum. Jonas performed 2

shows, the first, for the Prep and 1\2

classes and the second for the 3\4 and 5

\6 cohorts.

Both shows were jam packed full with 50

interactive minutes of masterful

drumming, dance, story telling and

fascinating facts about African culture and

language. Some lucky students were even

asked to perform with Jonas, forming a

band for the audience to dance too.

Teachers and students alike were capti-

vated by the wonderful performance, with

one student saying that "Jonas is like the

Usain Bolt of drumming".

A great time was had by all.

Principal’s report continued…

Prep’s in Pyjamas day and Breakfast at school

Last Friday was very exciting for our wonderful 2017 Prep students as they came to school early and

tucked into some of the best pancakes while looking amazing in their Pyjamas with teddies at hand. With

an early start and a whole day to celebrate, I wouldn’t wonder if there were lots of little heads eager to hit

the pillow early on Friday night.

Update on Mrs Nicholls Leave

As many of you will be aware Mrs Nicholls has been on extended leave to care for members of her family.

At this stage Mrs Nicholls will continue to be on leave for 2018 and an acting Business Manager vacancy

is currently being finalised.

Last Day of Term Early Dismissal

The last day of school this year will be Friday December 22nd with assembly at 2:00pm and students

finishing at 2:30pm

Until next week I wish everyone a wonderful week and remind all families that maximising attendance is a

critical factor in your child achieving their potential so, remember it’s not OK to be away unless you’re

sick!

Preventing sibling fights: eight tips

1. Look after each child’s needs

Your children might need different rules and boundaries depending on their ages and

temperaments. But they need to feel that you love and value them all equally – this way, they

won’t feel they have to compete for your affection and attention. You can foster these feelings

by spending special time with each child regularly, giving lots of hugs and smiles to

everyone, and trying not to compare children with each other.

Although children need to learn about sharing, it’s also helpful if they have some special things

of their own that they don’t have to share. A little bit of private space – even just a drawer that

siblings can’t get into – is a good idea too.

Children will also feel valued if you make it clear that it’s not OK for younger children to mess up older children’s activities, and vice versa.

2. Set clear family rules Rules let children know what’s OK and what’s not. If you have family rules in place, it’s easier

for you to remind children of how you expect them to treat each other.

Here are some tips for making rules work: Involve children in setting up rules. This will help your children remember them. Put a copy of your house rules on the fridge or somewhere everyone can see them.

Follow through every time children bend or break the rules. Start with a friendly reminder

– ‘Are we all speaking nicely to each other?’ Then give another chance. If children still

break the rules, use an agreed consequence.

PREP TEDDY BEAR’S PICNIC BREAKFAST On Friday 1st of December the Prep students started their day extra early with a Teddy Bears

Picnic Breakfast. They filled their bellies with pancakes with maple syrup, blueberries or

ice-cream (some even had all 3 toppings!) There was also an assortment of fruit, yoghurt and

milk and water.

The preps looked extra cute dressed in their PJ’s all day and their favourite teddy bear got to join them for

the fun filled day. The Prep breakfast is the beginning of CSPS school camps program that eases them into

what will eventually turn into a 3 day camp!

A massive thank you to Woolworths Curlewis for sponsoring the breakfast and allowed for it to be a no cost

event.

An extra massive thank you to our wonderful parent helpers (and Hudson and Nate Kowalik and
