    Health & Fitness Week

Children had a fantastic time taking part in

a huge variety of sporting activities

    including cycling and scooting, skipping

and first response lifesaving. Mrs Smith, Mrs

Hamblett and Mrs Coverdale did a great

job to ensure that everyone had fun

learning about the importance of keeping

    healthy in a safe environment!

The winner of the Family Sports Quiz was

Abigail Loughran the prize was a swingball for the garden. Well done to the

    Loughran Family!

    Competition and Curriculum Success

Our Y5 children have done us proud in

recent weeks! We had two children who

    represented Stockton in the athletics

events and came back with medals:

Jack W for relay (second place) and Sam T

for the chest pass (third place). Both were

    exceptional ambassadors and great

    sports.

Our Y5 Lego team also had much to

    celebrate in the Conyers cluster

    competition coming back with winning

trophies for the best robot and the best

    presentation. Our trophy cabinet is

    groaning!

Year 6 cricketers made it through to the

regional finals at Durhams County Cricket ground in Chester-le-Street. They came a

very impressive fourth place in a field of

    200 schools an amazing achievement.

12 Y6 children have worked with Miss

    Humphrey during lunch/break times and

after school to develop their love of art.

They have entered portfolios of paintings,

    drawings, photography and digital images

for the renowned Arts Award. The assessor

was very impressed with the quality of the

work produced and has asked if examples

can be used in materials to support schools

in developing art. One childs work has been sent to London to be looked at by a

national panel! We are very proud! End of Year Outcomes 2015

Our unvalidated results are outlined below.

The children have worked very hard to

achieve these results and should feel

proud of how hard they have worked this

    year.

End of Reception Good Level of

Development (GLD) the percentage of children reaching the expected level of

    development:

72% (an increase of 9% on our 2014 result

and above the 2014 national average of

    61%)

    Y1 Phonics:

93% (an increase of 1% on our 2014 result

and well above the 2014 national average

    of 74%)

    Listening

    97% 34%

    Reading 97% 97% 38%

    Writing 97% 92% 24%

    Maths 98% 92% 38%

    Science 97% 38%

L2b is the national average expectation for

children aged 7 years in 2015.

We are still waiting for the release of our Y6

test results from the Standards and Testing

    Agency. Y6 teachers submitted their

assessment of each childs learning in reading, writing, maths and science to the

Department for Education in June, based

on the work the children have done all

year. The teachers assessments are given just as much validity by secondary schools

because they are based on a wide range

of evidence, not just on one forty five

minute test. The numbers of children

attaining L4b in maths are expected to be

lower than in previous years. All other

outcomes are expected to be broadly

similar though in writing, the percentage of

children attaining L5 has increased again

as a result of our focused work in this area.

    Our reported teacher assessments were;

Key Stage 2 (Y6) Teacher Assessment:

    L4+ L4B+ L5+

    Reading 95% 93% 68%

    Writing 94% 85% 54%

    Maths 87% 79% 56%

    Science 95% 70%

    R,W & M

    combined

    87% 73% 44%

L4b is the national average expectation for

children aged 11 years in 2015. Parking Again! School has received a number of complaints in recent weeks about parking/cycling without care. In the event of an emergency, vehicles parked without care on the roundabout would prevent services such as ambulance, fire appliances or police cars from gaining access. Coaches bringing back children from school visits have been unable to drop children off safely

because of illegally/inconsiderately parked cars. The owner of the Fox Covert has been to say that cars are filling his car park which is then putting off prospective customers. This matter has been passed on to SBCs Highways Department. Pedestrians should also take care to avoid walking on the cycle path.
