Congratulations to the 2018 Basics Educa-tional Program graduates. Parents and grandparents participated in the 6 session course that focuses on finding the best care, resources and services for their chil-dren/grandchildren, learning new parent-ing strategies and caring for themselves on the sometimes very difficult journey of raising children with mental health chal-lenges. Congratulations to this terrific group of people!

Michael Fields and Edna Ealey participated in the NAMI CA sponsored Bebe Moore Campbell Advocacy Day. We met with a number of legislators promoting mental health bills... and ran into Senator Beall who enthusiastically shared about his co-sponsorship of SB906.
SB 906 -- Establishes professional standards and certification for health providers known as peers, with lived experience in mental illness or substance use disorders, also known as "peers." (For fact
sheet/questions please contact Gregory Cramer)

Our regional advocacy meetings in Contra Costa County, Kern County, and Riverside County have been invaluable tools for NAMI California to engage with local affiliates and stakeholders to determine what mental health issues are most impacting each California region. Thank you to all who have participated! NAMI California's regional advocacy meetings are in partnership with local affiliates in several different regions. Regional advocacy meetings are designed to bring together members of the public, community-based organizations (NAMI CA, NAMI Affiliates, and Partners), and county staff to talk about the public planning process. Meetings bolster collaboration and help strengthen the relationship between family members and staff. In addition, NAMI California will cover NAMI Smarts for Advocacy materials to conduct at least 1 module depending on the
