YEAR OF THE LAY APOSTOLATE

Welcome, Father Richard Marrano

Richard Marrano attended Mass every Sunday with his family when he was growing up. “I used to hate going to Church,” he said with a laugh, adding, “I always gave my mother a hard time.”

That all changed when his mother urged him to become an altar server. In seventh grade, he said, he discovered a great role model in Father Robert Grippo, the pastor of St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus in the Bronx, the parish where he grew up. “Looking at him, how reverent he was, I remember as a kid that I had a tremendous admiration of him and the priesthood,” he said.

During his discernment process, he had to overcome a few obstacles. He said. “I was always used to working for myself, I was very independent.”

“God has put me on a different path and those things pale in comparison to the gifts” that I’ve received as a priest,” he said, adding, “Any challenges that come into my path, I’ve learned something significant about myself.”

Father Marrano was born in New York City to Ricardo and Rosalie Marrano. He has one sister.

During his years at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, he had good days and bad days. “We are not perfect, but the people deserve someone who is properly trained, we owe it to them,” he said. He continually seeks to develop a deeper prayer life and spends an hour each day in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. “You are dealing with people’s lives; to care for their souls. You can’t shortchange them.”

He loves celebrating Mass and also the Sacrament of Reconciliation. “I’ve always want to bring Jesus to the people,” he said. In the confessional, through the priest, the people receive the gift of the mercy of Christ, he said. “I’ve felt that mercy in my life,” he said. “The fact that Jesus chose me to be his instrument is incredible to me.”

Father Marrano’s grandfather, Vito DiFoglia, 91, died just a few weeks before his ordination. The two were very close. He was present when a priest went to administer the Anointing of the Sick to his grandfather. “God gave me a window to what he is going to give to me in a month from now. I saw what a priest’s presence can do; he properly prepared my grandfather for death. I got to witness Jesus pour out his mercy on my grandfather.”

Año del Apostolado de los Laicos

Bienvenido, Padre Richard Marrano

No puedes cambiarlos ".

"Siempre he querido traer a Jesús a la gente", dijo.

"He sentido esa misericordia en mi vida", dijo.

The Prophetic Voice In You

John the Baptist was a real person who ministered to real people in order to get them ready to meet Jesus Christ. So two questions come to mind:

Who is John the Baptist for you? Like St John the Church has a role in preparing us to meet God. The Church proclaims repentance and should always point to Christ. Yet, our voice as Church she is one crying in the wilderness. It will help us to remember and find inspiration from those who have helped - and still do - point us to Christ.

Such as our parents, past teachers, religious sisters, pastors or friends who’ve taken the role of the Baptizer. For the Church has always had members who take up her voice. And so, for many the first place they hear of Jesus is not in a Papal letter or in the Bible. They hear about Jesus at their mother’s knee, from their father’s voice, from a religious sister, or teacher. And together they say, “this is the way, walk in it.”

How are you John the Baptist to others? Just as you have been baptized into the work of Christ the Prophet, you are called to take His word to others. To whom have you witnessed? To whom have you declared, “This is the way, walk in it?”

When you were baptized your were given the office of Prophet. Have you taken up this role? Have others been made ready through you to meet God? Think about it? God had John the Baptist, who does He have now. It looks like you. You are John the Baptist!

¿A quién has presenciado? ¿A quién has

¿Has asumido este papel?
