Many people want to be a prophet in our current age, particularly when

the Power Ball and Mega Millions lotteries rise to hundreds of millions

of dollars. However, few of us would have wanted to be prophets for the

Chosen People before the time of Christ, or like John the Baptist and

Jesus. Such prophets observed the silly, senseless, stupid and sinful

things in their time, and they called for CHANGE. The people of their

time did not like CHANGE and they rejected the prophet who called for

CHANGE. We do not like CHANGE or the person who calls us to

CHANGE. When we were baptized we were anointed priest, prophet

and king. We have the responsibility to observe the silly, senseless,

stupid and sinful things in our time, and call for CHANGE. It is part of

our obligation as disciples and imitators of Jesus. And we can expect to

be treated like Jesus, John the Baptist, and the prophets before them,

when we CHANGE and call others to CHANGE. But Jesus assured us,

A prophet is not without honor . . . in his eyes.

    Eucharistic Adoration:

St. Anthony of Padua offers Adora-

tion each Friday from 8:45 am to

    11:45 am. All are welcomed.

perishable food donations in the bin

by the St. Anthony altar in front of

    the church. Thank you!

worry our of donating each week by

giving online. You can make a one

time donation or set up recurring

    Monthly Mass & Healing Service:

All are welcomed to attend our next

    monthly Mass and Healing Service

which will be held on Wednesday,

    June 27, 2018 beginning at 6pm.

Anointing of the Sick are available.

    Novena to St. Anthony:

The weekly Novena to St. Anthony

of Padua is recited each Tuesday

after the 8:15 am Mass. All are

    welcomed!

    St. John the Baptist

O God, You raised up St. John the

Baptist to prepare a perfect people

for Christ. Fill your people with the

joy of possessing His grace, and

direct the minds of all the faithful in

the way of peace and salvation.

Grant that as St. John was martyred

for truth and justice, so we may

    energetically profess our Faith in

You, and lead others to the Way,

    the Truth, and Eternal Life.

    Amen.

    Patron Saint of:

    Baptism, Converts, Convulsions,

    Cutters, Epileptics, Hailstorms,

    Monastics, Motorways, Printers,

    Spasms, & Tailors

    Taken from the website of

    The United States Conference of

    Catholic Bishops

    How do I pray?

Various forms of prayer are presented

in the Catechism of the Catholic

    Church (CCC 2623-2649). These vari-

ous forms include prayer of blessing or

adoration, prayer of petition, prayer of

    intercession, prayer of thanksgiving,

    and prayer of praise.

    What is meditation?

Meditation is a Christian practice of

prayer dating back to the early Church.

As the Catechism states: "Meditation is

above all a quest. The mind seeks to

understand the why and how of the

Christian life, in order to adhere and

respond to what the Lord is asking."

By meditating on the Gospels, holy

    icons, liturgical texts, spiritual writ-

ings, or "the great book of creation,"

we come to make our own that which

is God's. "To the extent that we are

humble and faithful, we discover in

meditation the movements that stir the

heart and we are able to discern them.

It is a question of acting truthfully in

order to come into the light: "Lord,

what do you want me to do?" (CCC

    2705-2706). Meditation is an essential

form of Christian prayer, especially for

those who are seeking to answer the

    vocational question, "Lord, what do

    you want me to do?

John the Baptist is "more than a prophet." In him,

the Holy Spirit concludes his speaking through

the prophets. John completes the cycle of prophets begun by

Elijah. He proclaims the imminence of the consolation of Israel; he is

the "voice" of the Consoler who is coming. As the Spirit of truth will

also do, John "came to bear witness to the light." In John's sight,

the Spirit thus brings to completion the careful search of

the prophets and fulfills the longing of the angels. "He on whom

you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with

the Holy Spirit and I have seen and have borne witness that this is

the Son of God.... Behold, the Lamb of God."

12:10 pm Mass. On Fridays, the church is

opened from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm for both

    Masses, Adoration and Confessions.

The parish office is now closed on Fridays.

The above changes will decrease the number of

hours our office staff works each week and will

allow us to save money on operating expenses.

    Prayer for Priests

    Dear Lord,

    We pray that the

    Blessed Mother will

    wrap her mantle of

    protection around

    Your priests and

    through her interces-

    sion may they be

    strengthened in their

    ministry.

    We pray that Mary

    will guide Your

    priests, dear Lord, to

    follow her own words,

    Do whatever He tells

    you.

    May Your priests

    have the heart of St.

    Joseph,

    Marys most chaste

    spouse. May the

    Blessed Mothers own

    pierced heart inspire

    them to embrace all

    who suffer at the foot

    of the holy cross for

    the love of God the

    Father.

    May Your priests be

    Holy, as you are holy,

    And through the pow-

    er of the Holy Spirit,

    may they be filled

    with the fire of Your

    love

    seeking nothing but

    Your greater glory

    and the salvation of

    souls. Amen!

    St. John Vianney,

    Pray for us!
