Situation
Kanou elementary school is located in an area with a long history and a traditional school
which celebrated its 144thyear. We are one of the most prestigious schools in Gifu continuously
suggesting practical and versatile educational research as a training school affiliated with Gifu
University, teacher training schools, and a research school leading in education in Gifu. We
raise students with practical skills in various fields aiming to achieve our educational goal
“Beautiful Mind & Think & Achieve”. Our notable achievements are as follows;
(Academic level)
According to the result of Achievement Tests given around the country, we marked the
highest in Japanese, Mathematics and Science.
(Sports)
We achieved brilliant results in National Sports Tests and got a prize as a Physical Fitness
Excellence School in 2013 and 2014.
(Culture)
We focus on Chorus and Drama. As for Chorus, we won first prize at a contest in Gifu, and
participated in a Tokai area tournament. Another student activity is Creative Opera which
has a history of more than 50 years. It is famous all over the country and has been staged at
many official places.
In addition, we came up with the theme “Deepen Beautiful Mind” and have tried to make
thoughtful relationships to respect each other working on moral education, communicating
between different grades and having discussions. Based on these relationships, we develop
their self-governing and self-motivated ideas to improve their school life.
We also put effort into cooperation with the local community. Since 2014, we have
implemented a Community-School Program with parents and local community. As part of this
program, we promote disaster education and enrich students’ educational environment through
disaster prevention practices and local cleaning projects. Moreover, we encourage involvement
in local traditional events such as “Otaue-Dance”.

Role of research designated school
This school was founded more than 140 years ago. Founded as the
academic offices of the Kanou clan in the Edo era, it has been
positioned as a Gifu University Education school, a teacher training
school, and a research school designated by the Gifu Prefectural
Board of Education.
This creative opera is a traditional activity that has a history of more than 50 years.
This creative opera is one of our distinctive educational activities.
Children are making the stage props and think of singing and dancing.
We have a "good friend activity" where children of different
ages cooperate and work together. They clean and play
together.
Remains of a castle, Stone wall, which
was made in the Edo era, is on school
grounds.
Through this activity, it is possible to deepen
understanding of music, language and art
education. At the same time, it is possible to
enhance creativity and planning ability.
Furthermore, through creating stage sets
(for the opera) children can increase their
individual forces. in cooperation with each
other.
The results of the national achievement test showed that our performance is top-level.
Our performance in Japanese, mathematics, and science is beyond that of even the Akita Prefecture, which ranks
of the top in the country. Also, we are among top public schools in Gifu Prefecture.
In our school, all the teachers cooperate, In order to improve teaching methods by
the learning situation, thorough analysis.
