March of Dimes: March for Babies
March of Dimes is a nonprofit organization that helps
to raise money for babies that are born prematurely or with
birth defects. The March for Babies is their biggest event of
the year. Key Club is excited to be participating in this event
for the first time. On May 5, members of the Mount Si Key
Club Team, along with hundreds of others, will walk 3.1 miles
through Seattle to raise money for March of Dimes. Our
team’s fundraising goal is $1,000 dollars and so far we have
raised $220. If you wish to participate, go to
marchforbabies.org and either join our team (Mount Si Key
Club) or start your own. The closest March starts at the Seattle
Center’s Fisher Pavilion. Registration is at 8 AM and the walk
begins at 9 AM. Breakfast and lunch are served (free) for all
walk participants.
Since March of Dimes started to walk in 1970, the
organization has raised an amazing $2 billion. This is a nation-
wide event and as many as 7 million people participate every
year. The money raised by the March for Babies goes to fund
research and programs designed to help babies in need, either
from problems caused by premature birth or babies born with
other birth defects. Whether you participate in the walk itself
or donate to the organization, every bit of help counts.

K E Y C L U B
This year’s DCON was a great
success, from the first humiliating and yet
still fun icebreakers to the final goodbyes.
This was my first year attending and I wish I
had done every year I’ve been in Key Club. It
was so much fun! It was really cool to meet
Key Clubbers outside my own division
(Division 28). The first night was definitely
the most fun. We all get together in one
room, more than a thousand Key Clubbers
from “competing” divisions, and we all try to
win the spirit stick by screaming the other
divisions’ ears off. It’s ridiculously loud and
exciting and unless your throat is sore
afterward, it’s hard to say you did it right.
But that is just the beginning.
After this initial rally, we split up into
our own divisions and hear from candidates
running for positions such as president,
editor, etc. Although this caucusing can be a
little slow, it is really cool to be a part of
electing the next Key Club president. The
next day is one interesting presentation after
another, on anything from applying to
college to sexual education (surprisingly
funny and always a big hit). The day ends
with a fancy dinner and then a choice: go to
a dance or a party in the game room, both
very good choices. To top it off, our advisor,
Joe Dockery, won the Distinguished Club
Advisor award and received it Saturday night
at the awards ceremony. Students from
Mount Si were even DJ-ing at the dance.
Over all, the whole weekend was fantastic
fun and probably one of the best weekends
of my life.
