HEALTH WORK HONOR ROLL IN ESSEX CO. In the early part of October the rural teachers were asked to form School Health Clubs following the plan outlined by the Medical In- spections Division of the StJate Department of Education. The management of the club al- ways depends for its success or failure on the ability of the teach- er to arouse and maintain inter- est. The pupils choose their own officers but each teacher must give daily supervision and keep the records. Particular .attention is given to these five points: 1. General cleanliness and neat- ness. 2. Head. 3. Teeth. 4. Hands. 5. Nails. If a child is conspicuously dirty or untidy the condition is noted by the inspecting officer. When a child passes the inspection for five consecutive days, his or her name is added to the Honor Roll. Each pupil who succeeds in keeping his or her name on the Honor Roll during the year receives a health certificate at the close of school. The following list, sent in by Miss Gertrude M. Spear, superin- tendent of the Second Supervisory District, contains also the Honor Roll of the 3rd District. GETTING BETTER ACQUAINT- ED ENCOURAGES CO- OPERATION Saranac Lake Chamber of Com- merce held an informal dinner meeting at Adirondack-Florida Club last evening. This is the be- ginning of a series of informal dinners planned by the Saranac Lake organization to be held in various resort centers. The idea is to familiarize the members with Adirondack resort conditions generally and to create a spirit of co-operation that will tend to promote the interests of the Adi- rondacks as a whole. The plan is a splendid one and ought to bring lasting results. The Lake Placid Chamber of Com- merce has made excellent progress by the informal dinner method and while confined to the hotels in Placid, doubtless the Saranac Lake plan of going elsewhere to meet would prove a boon for the local organization. Let's try it too! SPEECHLESS FROM ACCIDENT Henry Mace of Ausable Forks lost his power of speech for sev- eral hours when his Ford touring car collided with a Cadillac near eorge Rea's farm at Beekman- town. The Cadillac was driven by Sergeant Follinsby, chauffeur for Col. Lawton of Governors Is- land who was on official business at the Post. Mace was rushed to the Cham- plain Valley hospital where a cut over his left eye was treated. He sustained a few minor bruises. It is reported that the Sergeant was using the car for purposes other than official, and that Mace drove his Ford nearly into the ditch in an attempt to avoid the collision. Mace's neck struck his steering wheel, and this tog-ether with the shock is believed to have taken for some time taken away his power of speech. JAILED TILL THEY PAID Game protectors Irving Cross of fultonville, and Fuller of Cold Brook, while watching the opera- j tion of trappers taking beaver. I found a portion of a freshly killed j deer in an old camp on Four Mile Creek in Herkimer county. Two men, who were occupying the camp, were arrested and convicted of taking the deer illegally. They were fined $100 each and confined in the Herkimer county jail un- til the fines were paid. Protector Fuller also while viewing the op- eration of trappers taking beaver saw two men in a remote section of the town of Ohio, Herkimer county, return, to camp with a deef which they had killed. They were arrested and fined $75 tach. LARGEMOUTH TROJAN BASS ELDRIDGE DECLINES Assemblyman Milton N. El- dridge of Warrensburj? has an- nounced that he will not be a candidate for nomination to suc- ceed himself, because of ill health. The Republican county committee has endorsed the eandidacy of Richard J. Bolton of Hague, for the nomination. The Trojan Rod and Gun Club, which, under the direction of the Conservation Commission, is now stocking one of the old reservoirs of the city of Troy with large- mouth bass, recently transferred its first consignment of 200 brood bass from the Tomhannock Reser- voir to the new propagating pond. Solitude either develops the men- tal powers, or renders men dull amd i i V i t H PLANTS MOST TREES Thomas C. Luther of Saratoga Springs, who wjas probably the largest individual tree planter in the country, and whose planta- tion this year amounted to over 1,000,000 trees has written to the Conservation Commission that he is figuring on planting 1,000 more acres in his forest preserve next year. This would require another 1,000,000 trees. When a man has a big paunch, ^o brains and a silent tongue, he can always "get by" on his dignity. HEALTH WORKHONOR ROLL

IN ESSEX CO.In the early part of October the

rural teachers were asked to formSchool Health Clubs following theplan outlined by the Medical In-spections Division of the StJateDepartment of Education.

The management of the club al-ways depends for its success orfailure on the ability of the teach-er to arouse and maintain inter-est. The pupils choose their ownofficers but each teacher must givedaily supervision and keep therecords. Particular .attention isgiven to these five points:

1. General cleanliness and neat-ness.

2. Head.3. Teeth.4. Hands.5. Nails.If a child is conspicuously dirty

or untidy the condition is noted bythe inspecting officer. When achild passes the inspection for fiveconsecutive days, his or her nameis added to the Honor Roll. Eachpupil who succeeds in keeping hisor her name on the Honor Rollduring the year receives a healthcertificate at the close of school.

GETTING BETTER ACQUAINT-ED ENCOURAGES CO-

OPERATION

Saranac Lake Chamber of Com-merce held an informal dinnermeeting at Adirondack-FloridaClub last evening. This is the be-ginning of a series of informaldinners planned by the SaranacLake organization to be held invarious resort centers. The ideais to familiarize the memberswith Adirondack resort conditionsgenerally and to create a spirit ofco-operation that will tend topromote the interests of the Adi-rondacks as a whole.

The plan is a splendid one andought to bring lasting results. The Lake Placid Chamber of Com-merce has made excellent progressby the informal dinner method andwhile confined to the hotels inPlacid, doubtless the Saranac Lakeplan of going elsewhere to meetwould prove a boon for the localorganization. Let's try it too!
