October 31, 2013 or $25.00 beginning November 1, 2013. • All membership (youth and adult) must be entered onto the 4-H CONNECT system and be in active status for membership to be granted. • A 4-H member will not be allowed to register for any event until membership is in an ACTIVE status.

• Sessions Include: Entomology, Dance, Consumer Decision Making, Fashion, and

Wildlife Habitat Education Program and much more.

• Programs led by college professors, 4-H Specialists and other experts.

Showmanship Clinic & LaSalle Co.

Prospect Show

This year’s Showmanship Clinic will be on January 4, 2013 at the LaSalle County Fairbarn and it will

also be LaSalle’s FIRST Prospect Show. LaSalle County will host their First Prospect Show

on January 4, 2014, along with Showmanship Clinic.

Showmanship Clinic will be Free.

Registration begins promptly at 8:30am

Entry fee for Prospect Show: $5.00 Deadline to Enter Prospect Show: December 20,

2013 Must drop off or mail entry to LaSalle County

Extension Office THIS IS ONLY FOR PIGS, STEERS & GOATS.

There will be Prizes for 1st & 2nd place. (Maybe more if we gather enough entries)

ALL ENTRIES will receive a “SHOW RELATED” prize.

FREE LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED FOR ALL

D12 4H Council Meeting

District 12 4H Council Meeting will be held on January 11, 2014 in Kingsville, Texas. If you are

attending you must be registered on 4H connect by January 7, 2014.

Goat Clinic This year’s Goat Clinic will be held on December 14, 2013 at 9am at the LaSalle County Fairbarn.

We encourage exhibitors to bring their goat.

Cotulla 4H Club News:

• LaSalle County Extension Office has

received unwrapped Christmas toys and canned goods that the Cotulla 4H Club voted on as their December 4H service project. Please bring canned goods and toys to LaSalle County Extension Office or to next meeting which will be on December 9, 2013 at 7pm.

• Cotulla Christmas party will take place on

December 9, 2013 and there will be Secret Santa. If your child would like to participate please bring a gift. The gift must be for the same gender as your child.

For Example: If your 4H’er is a boy bring a toy for a boy and if your 4H’er is a girl bring a toy for a girl.

• COTULLA 4H Members can you call our office with your T-Shirt Sizes. Remember if you are not on our 4H Connect roster you will not be able to receive a shirt.

D12 4H Food Challenge & Food

Show This year our District 12 4H Food Challenge and

Food Show will be on Saturday, December 7, 2013 in Three Rivers, TX. We have 2

Junior/Intermediate & 1 Senior Team competing from our county. So let’s a Good Luck to the

following 4H members:

Kendra Torres, Alyssa Quiles, Malyssa Quiles, Sara Adams, Danelli Ruiz, Mikayla Aguero,

Karissia Torres, Carolina Garcia & Abby Menke.

4H & FFA Booster Club sets Attendance Policy!

The LaSalle Co. 4H and FFA Booster Club,

(Which runs the Livestock Show) has instituted a rule that states:

To be eligible to show at the LaSalle Co. Livestock Show, all 4H and FFA members must attend at least 50% of their respective chapter

or club meetings. If you miss a 4H meeting and would like to have a “make up”, you

can attend a LaSalle County Council meeting.

2014 NATIONAL 4-H CONFERENCE OPPORTUNITY WHAT  IS  NATIONAL  4-­‐H  CONFERENCE?    The  National  4-­‐H  Conference  is  the  Secretary  of  Agriculture’s  premier  youth  development  opportunity  to  engage  youth  in  developing  recommendations  for  the  4-­‐H  Youth  Development  Program.      The  National  4-­‐H  Conference  is  a  working  conference  in  which  youth  and  adults-­‐-­‐at  the  invitation  of  the  Secretary  of  Agriculture-­‐-­‐assist  in  the  development  of  recommendations  to  help  guide  4-­‐H  Youth  Development  Programs  nationally  and  in  their  communities.  This  event  brings  together  youth,  volunteer  leaders,  and  state  and  county  Extension  staff  members  from  across  the  United  States,  the  U.S.  Territories,  and  the  Canadian  Provinces.    As  the  sponsor  for  this  conference,  the  National  4-­‐H  Headquarters-­‐-­‐located  within  Families,  4-­‐H,  and  Nutrition  at  the  U.S.  Department  of  Agriculture’s  (USDA’s)  National  Institute  of  Food  and  Agriculture  (NIFA)  -­‐-­‐is  charged  with  sharing  the  recommendations  that  emerge  from  the  conference  with  the  Secretary  of  Agriculture,  national  Extension  Program  Leaders,  and  others  who  determine  4-­‐H  programs.  At  the  same  time,  ensuring  that  the  conference  is  a  meaningful  experience  for  the  youth  and  adult  participants.    LOCATION:    The  2014  National  4-­‐H  Conference  will  be  held  at  the  National  4-­‐H  Youth  Conference  Center.  The  National  4-­‐H  Youth  Conference  Center  is  located  in  a  quiet,  12-­‐acre  campus-­‐like  setting  in  Maryland,  one  mile  from  the  nation’s  capital,  making  it  the  perfect  gateway  to  Washington,  D.C.’s  leaders,  monuments  and  museums.  The  Conference  Center  is  operated  by  the  National  4-­‐H  Council.  To  read  more  interesting  history  on  the  National  4-­‐H  Youth  Conference  Center,  visit  http://www.4hcenter.org/center_history.html.    WHO  SHOULD  APPLY?    The  National  4-­‐H  Conference  requires  youth  who  are  focused  and  committed  to  working  during  the  Conference  and  in  their  state.  The  Texas  delegation  will  consist  of  10  youth  delegates,  who  need  to  engage  in  pre-­‐  and  post  conference  work  and  participate  in  all  scheduled  conference  activities.    The  minimum  age  requirement  for  a  Texas  youth  delegate  is  15  years  old  (must  be  by  January  1,  2014).  The  maximum  age  for  a  youth  delegate  is  18.    APPLICATION  PROCESS:    Applications  must  be  submitted  online  and  certified  through  4HCONNECT  by  December  15,  2013.  Final  selection  of  delegates  will  be  made  on  the  basis  of  the  online  application.  The  final  selection  of  delegates  will  be  announced  on,  or  before,  December  20,  2013.  Please  refer  to  the  Application/Nomination  for  4-­‐H  Recognition  Form  (4-­‐H  3-­‐2.041)  to  help  you  complete  the  online  application.  This  form  is  available  from  the  Publication  page  of  the  Texas  4-­‐H  and  Youth  Development  Program  website  (http://texas4-­‐h.tamu.edu).    COST:    The  delegate’s  share  of  registration,  adult  chaperone  registration,  lodging,  airfare,  meals,  and  transportation  costs  is  $2000.00.  This  registration  fee  will  be  due  on  January  15,  2013.    TEXAS  DELEGATION  MEETING  LOCATION:    The  Texas  delegates  will  meet  at  either  the  Bush  Intercontinental  Airport  in  Houston  or  the  Dallas/Fort  Worth  Airport  in  Dallas  (depending  on  the  cost  of  airline  tickets  and  the  geographical  makeup  of  the  delegation).  All  travel  costs  to  the  airport  to  meet  the  group  is  the  responsibility  of  the  delegate.
