Family of Parishes News Update

Welcome Fr. Hervé Sauvé: We warmly welcome to our Family of Parishes this weekend a priest from the

Diocese of Hearst in Northern Ontario. He is the Pastor of St. Patrick’s Parish in Kapuskasing. Though he is on holidays from his own parish, he is helping this weekend by covering Masses in the absence of our Associate Pastor. We thank Fr. Hervé for being with us.

Pastoral Minister Needed: As previously announced, our Family of Parishes is seeking applicants for a Pastoral Minister for Family Faith Formation. This individual will work with the Pastoral Team in preparing parishioners for the sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation. Further information is available on our individual parish websites as well as on the Diocesan website. Applications must be submitted to St. Joseph Parish by noon on Aug. 14th. Ministries Celebration: On Saturday September 7th, ALL PERSONS INVOLVED IN LITURGICAL MINISTRIES are invited to St. Joseph Church for Mass at 10:30am. This celebration will bring together all who serve the Lord in the Eucharist. Some liturgical catechesis will help us to understand the role of each ministry. Invited are Liturgy Committees, Sacristans, Ushers, Altar Servers, Ministers of Hospitality (Greeters), Commentators, Readers, Auxiliary Ministers of Communion, musicians and choir members. Please mark your calendar as your presence and understanding will be very important in the changes that will be effectuated.

French Immersion Course: Fr. Ray will be participating in a French Immersion Course for the next few weeks. Please remember him in your prayers.

RCIA Candidates: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a process through which non-baptized adults and adults baptized in a non-Catholic denomination receive instruction about the teachings and beliefs of the Catholic Church. It is led by a team of parishioners who love the Lord and His Church and who desire to share their faith with others. Gatherings are every other Tuesday from 7-9pm at St. Joseph Church (with the exception of Advent & Lent when gatherings are weekly). The RCIA also welcomes adult Catholics who have not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Applications are available on the website of each of our parishes. For further information, please contact Rebecca Bondy at the St. Joseph Office.

Centralization of the Parish Offices: With Diocesan permission, the

offices for our Family of Parishes will be moved to St. Joseph Church. This will allow the team to work together to better serve the needs of our people. As was reported in last weekend’s bulletin, this is the most cost-effective and logical decision. It is hoped that the move will take place in September.

Hospital Visits: Please contact the office should you desire a visit while in the hospital. Emergencies should be directed to the chaplain assigned at the hospital. Of course, the anointing of the sick can be administered upon request.

Baptismal Preparation Information: Baptism formally welcomes your child into the Faith and into our Faith Community. After your initial call, to the parish office, you will be

contacted by one of our Pastoral Staff or another member of our Baptismal Team. Preparation for Baptism consists of one home visit and one instructional session that is presented on a monthly basis by trained parishioners . Couples who are planning on having their child baptized are encouraged to contact the office BEFORE the birth of their child. Please contact the parish office at least 3 months before the date of baptism you are requesting. Baptisms are celebrated during weekend Mass on the first weekend of each month. Please contact Rebecca at St. Joseph Parish for more information.

Children’s Bulletins: Did you know that we have children’s bulletins available in the narthex (front entrance of the church). Find them weekly on the children’s book case.

Holy Cross students entering Grade 2 or

Grade 8: Please make sure to pick up the information that can be found at the entrance of any of the parishes. Parents are urged to mark these meetings in their calendars. Non-attendance at the meetings will cause the deferral of the reception of

the sacraments until the following year. Much effort and preparation is being done so as to better prepare the children and their families to celebrate these sacraments.

Kitchen Clean Up: The Community Centre Kitchen will be getting a major clean up in the next 2 weeks. If you have any outstanding plates, containers etc. or would like to have any of the extras (which will be left on the island in the kitchen) please come and take them before Friday, August 16th.

St. Paul’s CWL: Thursday September 12th at 8 a.m. is the CWL Mass for Father Leo. It will be held at Rosary Chapel beside Assumption Church.

Next meeting is September 10th, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in the Church Hall. All are welcome to attend.

Shut In Ministry: Do you know of parishioners who are unable to attend Mass due to illness or age? If so, please contact the office!

Reminder to all commentators to check the commentating sheet prior to Mass to confirm if there are announcements to be made. If there are, please

come forward before the final blessing. Please ONLY read the announcements that have been written on the sheet.

Help Needed: We are looking for volunteers willing to open, close and set up for both weekend and weekday Masses here at St. Paul. If we can get enough volunteers, it is hoped you will only be required to open and close once a month. Please contact the parish office if you are interested.
