students recited almost like professionals, that is, capably and with confidence. Parents and teachers were proud and the young performers were visibly delighted by the result of their efforts.
Like many people in the audience, the thing that stood out in my mind was that everyone seemed to be involved in the production in one way or another. Principals and teachers were present, guiding, encouraging and caring for the young performers. I became aware for the first time of the huge, collaborative effort that was taking place, involving focused learning and the mastery of wonderful skills. Colourful and appropriate images producing a realistic backdrop were carefully selected and a percussive orchestra had been trained to enhance the performance and replicate the ambient sounds of the storyline. Amazing costumes were created, cut and sewn by the costume designers, with talented parents at the helm. For an outsider like me, not even from Brunswick, the hard work, happy faces and community spirit reflected all that makes this school such a great place!
Finally, the language component was the icing on the cake. The fact that the students were able to recite, sing and follow the story in Italian testifies to the bravura of the director and supporting teachers. Daniele had written the play, selected the songs and choreographed the dances. No doubt, his own background in circus and Commedia dell’Arte performance influenced his fantastic decision to use tumbling and acrobatics in the dances, moves that always delight audiences. Daniele had chosen a Year 6 Narrator who arrived in Australia from Italy last year. Leonardo was set the task of explaining the storyline in English to the audience (as did the program). This allowed the young narrator to stretch himself and demonstrate his growing language proficiency, just as the Australian students were doing, in such a serious, respectful and awesome way, in Italian.
My congratulations go out to all of The BSPS community for this wonderful evening of entertainment.

WORKING BEEIf you can spare some time this Sunday (10 November) from 9am we’d love to see you come along to our Working Bee. We will be tackling some works in the garden space behind our 5/6 learning area, the garden at the back of the hall and some other general maintenance items around the school. If you can come along (even just for an hour) we’d love to see you there.
Hard to believe we are almost at the half way mark of the term!
Have a great fortnight,
Trevor.
THAT’S A WRAP!
What an amazing performance from everyone
involved in our production last Tuesday and Wednesday night. Our students showcased their theatrical talent and their language skills – leaving the audience in awe at how marvellously it all came together.
A special grazie mille goes to Daniele for his tireless work writing, directing and producing La Grande Avventura. This year’s production was professional and polished, leaving the audience in awe that they were actually watching a primary school production. A job this big cannot be done alone and Daniele was well supported by Giuliano and a dedicated team of teachers, parents and students this year;

I received a particularly heart-warming piece of feedback from a member of our BSPS community and I wanted to share this with you;
Having attended many BSPS theatrical performances dating back to when my grandchildren started school, I expected to enjoy and be thoroughly impressed by last week’s drama production and I wasn‘t disappointed. In fact, 2019 stands out in my mind as the year in which the seeds planted into young minds in earlier times finally bore fruit: the youngest children were conscientious and committed, but cute and comical at the same time; the middle-school students acted, sang and danced beautifully, revealing their maturing talents; and both the Year 5 and 6
