Topic : Number -Fractions
Learning Area : Addition of fractions
Learning objectives : Pupils will be taught to:
i) Add proper fractions with denominators up to 10.
Learning Outcomes : At the end of the lesson, students should be able to;
i) Add two proper fractions with the same denominator up to 10 to its simplest form with 1 as the
numerator for both fractions and with different numerators correctly based on teaching and learning
activity.

i) The good group should be able to add two proper fractions with the same and different denominatorup to 10 to its simplest form with 1 as the numerator for both fractions and with different numerators
with minimum guidance from teacher.
ii) The average group should be able to add two proper fractions with the same and different
denominator up to 10 to its simplest form with 1 as the numerator for both fractions and with different
numerators with some guidance from teacher.
iii) The weakgroup should be able to add two proper fractions with the same and different denominator
up to 10 to its simplest form with 1 as the numerator for both fractions and with different numerators
with full guidance from teacher.
iv)
Prerequisite Knowledge : Pupils already know about :
i) The numerator and the denominator of the fractions.
ii) Equivalent fractions

Playing with fraction cards i. Teacher asks every student to look
around if they manage to find any colour
paper bag.
ii. After find the paper bag, students have
to come in front and paste the fraction
card on the whiteboard.

Adding proper fractions which have;
i) Same numerator and denominator
e.g.

i. Teacher distributes paper strips to each
student.
ii. Then, teacher asks one students to
come in front to pick up a fraction card in
the box.
iii. That student needs to paste the fraction
card on the whiteboard and teacher asks
all of them to say aloud the fraction. For
example, one over three.
iv. Based from the fraction card teacher ask
all her students to fold the paper strips
into three equals part.
v. Next, students have to colour the parts
on the paper strips based on the fraction
card and write the value in the coloured
part. At the same time, teacher also
does the same thing on the whiteboard.
vi. Repeat the steps ii, iii and iv.

Adding proper fractions which have;
i) Different numerator but samedenominatore.g.
i) Teacher distributes a paper consist of
square paper which had been divided
into eight equal parts.
ii) Teacher asks the students to create any
fraction based from the square card
given and colour it.
iii) Repeat the step above and colour the
other part using the different colour.
iv) Next, students need to write each
fraction that represents each part theyhad coloured into a number sentence.
v) After they had finished, ask someone to
show and explain his/her answer in front
of the class by solving the fraction
puzzle.

ii) Pupils coloured the picture according
to the fractions colours.
iii) Teacher discusses the answer with
