GREATER MINNEAPOLIS-SAINT PAULVISION SAINT PAUL 20|20 REPORTST PAUL, MNbwbr architectsjanuary 2014 - march 2014Conceptual Design/Schematic Design/Graphics & Animation
“The Bridge”
“But which is the stone that supports the bridge?”
- Kublai Khan
1 urban design
South Viewfrom pedestrian bridge
Turns out, what supports a bridge is not the foundation nor the pier. It’s traffic. Without traffic, there wouldn’t be a bridge at all.
The project focuses on one objective - breaking down the barrier conditions of downtown St Paul and bridging the gap between the riverfront and the edge of downtown.
By adopting “the Ponte Vecchio” model, a “bridge” is created not only to allow passage between downtown and riverfront, but more importantly to become a public place programmed as a destination full of activities along the way.

Our experiences shape us.
They are a life-long act of balancing,an ever-lasting event of transforming, and a metabolic relationshipbetween the nature and body.
The building defines two wings of the building to represent nature and body. And they collide into each other to create a dynamic commons space that blends the characteristics of both wings together as the heart of the building.
Heart - Commons center of space and energy
Muscle - Cantileverstrength through movement
Nature - Selective Transparencyopening towards the wetland

The AOSC building responds to the polarizing existing campus of HCMC by abstracting the essence of its strength - the modularity and the sense or order.
In the mean time, the project embodies the organization’s vision to reinvent itself as a public servant as well as an industry leader.
The design embraces the pragmatic core of the clinics and organizes them along two primary axes to enhance the sense of order and streamline wayfinding.
The architecture utilizes large transpar-ent volume to highlight an interface that invites city-scape into the interior while broadcasting the evolved vision of the organization to the city it serves.
