WORDS OF WELCOME

The past year has brought big challenges in all aspects of our lives and changed them

significantly. Many athletes have found themselves in lockdowns and had to adapt their

trainings and preparations. Majority of the international competitions were cancelled or in

the best case postponed to the fall 2020.

One of the competitions that was cancelled was the 2020 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom

World Championships which was supposed to be organised in Ljubljana - Tacen. We were

looking forward to welcome world's best young canoe slalom paddlers, so it was a great joy

for us when the International Canoe Federation awarded us the organisation of the 2021

edition of the ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom World Championships after New Zealand had

to withdraw from the organisation.

The legendary canoe slalom course in Ljubljana has a rich history and has hosted numerous

national and international competitions. Three senior Canoe Slalom World Championships

were organised on the Sava River in the years 1955, 1991 and 2010, as well as two senior

Canoe Slalom European Championships in the years 2005 and 2017. Canoe Slalom World

Cup races in Tacen are repeatedly on the competition calendar. However, this will be the first

time we will organise the Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships in Slovenian capital.

Last year we successfully organised World Cup race under strict protocols to prevent the

spread of the Covid-19 and with these new experiences we are confident we will organise

another great competition.

Canoe Federation of Slovenia and the Organising Committee – SLOKA 2021 are delighted

to welcome all national teams and competitors to this sporting event and we hope that

the 2021 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom World Championships on the slalom course in

Ljubljana - Tacen will see excellent races and memorable sporting moments for your team.
