Seasons greeting from Blue Lake Springs! We are enjoying beautiful weather in
December with warm days and cool nights. We definitely could use moisture for
the forest and snow for the mountains. Let’s hope we will have both in the weeks
ahead.
As most of you now know Calaveras County is now in the Purple Corona Virus
risk level (widespread risk). While this obviously has impact on a number of
activities, one area impacted is the BLS restaurant dining plans. Since there
currently is no indoor dining allowed at this time, plans are in progress for offering
take-out meals. You can read about the details in this Lodge Log. The
Thanksgiving pie sale offered by the Snowflake Lodge Restaurant was a huge
success with over 100 pies sold! There will be a tamale sale in mid-December so
look for information on the sale in this Lodge Log. The restaurant will continue
offering creative dining alternatives within the Corona Virus related restrictions.
On a different note, there appears to be a resurgence of the bark beetle
infestation in BLS. You may want to do a visual inspection of your trees on your
next visit to BLS. Cold weather and moisture helps keep the beetles at bay, so
let’s hope for a wet and cold winter.
Stay safe and healthy this holiday season.
Best regards,
Doug Hjelmhaug

VOLUNTEERS IN PREVENTION (VIP)
Hello BLSHA Members,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! November was a great month for fire prevention. The weather has changed, we had our first snow and rain, and CALFIRE is now allowing burning on specific burn days. CALFIRE is still urging people to be responsible though. We are not out of the woods just yet, but we are getting close. To find out if today is a burn day, please call The CALFIRE Burn Day Information Line at 209-223-6246. The burn line recording will be updated daily between 4pm and 5pm.
When a Member first buys in BLSHA, they are sent a New Homeowner Packet. In that packet there is a small slip that requests your contact information, and an application for the BLSHA Garbage Program. Please take the time to fill out both slips of paper. Without your current contact information, we can only send you a letter if there is an issue with your property. We have seen trees fall on homes, we have had septic tanks alarms go off, we have garbage spills and we have seen broken doors from bears. When these issues occur, it can be very important to have immediate contact with the Member. Without a current phone number and/or email, we cannot send you photos and information as easily. Please also fill out the BLSHA Garbage Program application. Signing up for this program does not allow the Association to charge you without your approval, each and every occurrence. Please view the BLSHA Garbage Program as an emergency tool and not as a garbage service such as Cal-Waste.
Please take the time to look around your property, your roof and your trees. Clear the needles from the roof and gutters and look up and see if you have any diseased and/or dead trees. Dead trees and gravity make a scary situation, especially when it snows. Please take the time to clean up the County-Right-of-Way, which is located in the front of your property, between the road and your pins. The water is about to come! It is the responsibility of each Property Owner to maintain and even repair (in some cases) the County-Right-of-Way, which is in front of their property. Please remember that you may not start any fires in the County-Right-of-Way. If you plan on burning, please do so in a safe place, within your property pins. I have listed below, the link to the Muni-code website. Please take the time to read up on property owner responsibilities. Just right click (on the link) and open the hyperlink.

For all Members who are going through insurance renewals, please contact me at [email protected]. I will be able to send you the BLSHA Fire Wise Community Certificate, a print out of the EPFD ISO rating for BLSHA, and a letter from the Association stating that you are not in violation of the CC&Rs. You may be eligible for a discount because BLSHA is a Fire Wise Community. However, if you are purchasing the CA Fair Plan, then you are entitled to a discount. Check with your insurance company.
If you plan on painting your home a new color scheme, replacing the septic, building a shed, deck or an addition, please do not forget that you must fill out an application to the BLSHA Architectural Review Committee. The Association must inspect the property lines and the plans, before any work may start. If you have plans on any changes to the outside of your home, please send me an email at [email protected], and we will send you out the application.
Have a safe December! Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
Thank you,
Thomas Hein
