FINISHING SCHOOL PROGRAM FORENGINEERING GRADUATES
Continuing Education Centre (CEC) conducted a
finishing school program for a period of 8 weeks in the
summer vacations of 2008 during May 26–July 18, 2008
on the initiatives of MHRD New Delhi. This year IIT
Roorkee was given the responsibility to co-ordinate the
Finishing School Program at National level. An
orientation program for the participating Institutes was
conducted during April 24 -25, 2008. MHRD has planned
to organize the Finishing School Program in 24 National
Institutes of the country.Around 18 engineering institutes/
colleges and 2 industries participated in the orientation
program at IIT Roorkee.
The finishing school program at IIT Roorkee was
organized under the coordinator-ship of Prof. Vinod
Kumar, Head - CEC & Prof. B. K. Gandhi, Co-coordinator
- CEC. A total of twenty eight students from AICTE
recognized institutes have attended this program.
Finishing School Program was designed for the
engineers who have been recently graduated from
various Engineering Institutes/Colleges and were looking
for a suitable employment. The main objectives of this
training was (i) to offer suitable candidates to IT industry
and (ii) to help young graduates to find jobs by inculcating
IT and soft skills components through appropriate
training.
During the Finishing School Programme, weekly
feedbacks were taken from the students. Further
students were given a feedback Proforma at the
beginning and at the end of the programme to assess the
value addition in their technical & soft skills. A test was
conducted by the NASSCOM NAC-Tech (NASSCOM
Assessment of Competence–Tech)–an employment
benchmarking test for the participants at the end of the
program.
The overall assessment of the program shows that it
has been successful in achieving its objectives.
