In order to forge powerful partnerships with the National Laboratories, to create knowledge networks with academic institutions and to gain entry into global market, the Technology Development Board instituted a “National Award” for successful commercialization of indigenous technology by an industrial concern in 1999. The National Award of Rs. 25 lakh each is given to the industrial concern that has successfully commercialized the indigenous technology along with the developer / provider of such technology.

The second category of award introduced in 2001 for SSI Units which has been renamed as MSME Award for MSME’s that has successfully commercialized a product based on indigenous technology.

From the year 2017, TDB introduced a new category of Awards to encourage & promote Technology Start-ups for development of promising technologies having potential for commercialization.

This is the first State-of-the-art grass root Wax De-oiling Plant set-up by any petroleum refinery in the country based on indigenous technology to produce 50,000 TPA of Fully Refined Paraffin Wax. Plant is designed to produce Paraffin Wax (PW) from MVGO and Semi-Micro Crystalline Waxes (SMCW) from HVGO in blocked out operation using Methyl-Iso-Butyl Ketone (MIBK) as a De-oiling solvent.

This Wax De-oiling Technology is a low CAPEX and low energy intensive technology, which sets it apart from other competitors. This technology has resulted in value addition of MVGO/HVGO by adding new product i.e. wax in the product slate of Numaligarh Refinery.

The Paraffin Wax and Semi-Micro Crystalline Waxes are valuable products and have wide range of Industrial applications. The technology has significant impact on wax import, thereby saving a lot of foreign exchange; even the refinery started exporting wax to many countries like Nepal, Kenya, Bangladesh, Mexico, Nicaragua, Thailand and China (Hongcong) etc. This has translated to enhanced Gross Refining Margin (GRM) of Numaligarh Refinery.

The Soft magnetic properties of Nano Crystalline Ribbon cores make it vital part of all technologies required for sensing and metering. This is the only company in India which has successfully developed this kind of metal spinning technology & can make a perfect composition of Alloy where 73% pure Iron is mixed with a blend of rare earths. This Alloy is made with sophisticated metallurgy followed by rapid quenching with metal spinning technology with cooling rate more than 1 million degree/second. With commercial production of these innovative advanced materials, India is no more dependent on the countries like Japan/Germany /China, thereby saving foreign currency through import substitution.

This Neonate Cooler is a CE certified affordable passive cooling device which uses the advanced savE® phase change material (PCM) technology to induce therapeutic hypothermia among newborns suffering from birth asphyxia. It uses a unique leak proof Phase Change Material called Form Stable, which makes it safe for use around newborn babies. This first of its kind Non-electronic device, costs less than 1/5th of the present electronic products in the market.

The unique feature of this thruster is that it works on water as propellant and can also accommodate any other inert gas as propellant, thus making it one of the few propulsion systems that are clean, green compact and safe. This thruster offers high thrust and high specific impulse per kilowatt of power consumed and can be scaled up and scaled down to cater to large, medium and small satellites alike. The developed RELD 1000 catalyst system for gas phase polypropylene production exhibit; self extinguishing characteristics of the system during polymerization thereby minimizing agglomeration of polymer particles, higher productivity of catalyst allowing high purity of polymer formed with low ash contents, better hydrogen response allowing operation of the reactor at low hydrogen/monomer ratio and narrowing of molecular weight distribution of produced homopolymer leading to use of raffia polypropylene at high speed new generation processing line (upto 550 metres/minute) for preparing oriented tapes.

The Technology Development Board (TDB), was constituted through an Act of Parliament, viz, the Technology Development Board Act, 1995 and came into being on September 1, 1996. The TDB Act provides for the constitution of a Board for payment of equity capital or any other financial assistance to industrial concerns and other agencies attempting development and commercial application of indigenous technology or adapting imported technology to wider domestic applications and for matters connected therewith.

The TDB is first organisation of its kind within the government framework with the sole objective of commercialising the fruits of indigenous research. The Board plays a pro-active role by encouraging enterprises to take up technology-oriented projects.
