From Pastors desk: The Baptism of the Lord. Reflection: Mark 1, 7 – 11 How can we enter into the mystery of Jesushumble self-abasement and baptism? Gregory of Nazianzus, a seventh century Church father tells us: Let us be buried with Christ by Baptism to rise with him; let us go down with him to be raised with him; and let us rise with him to be glorified with him”. Do you want to see changes in your life? And do you want to become a more effective instrument of the Gospel? Examine Jesushumility and ask the Holy Spirit to forge this same attitude in your heart. As you do, heaven will open for you as well. The Lord is ever ready to renew us in Spirit and to anoint us for mission. The Holy Spirit, too, was present as he anointed Jesus for his ministry which began that day as he rose from the waters of the Jordan River. Jesus will be the source of the Spirit for all who come to believe in him. At his baptism the heavens were opened and the wa- ters were sanctified by the descent of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, signi- fying the beginning of new creation. We are called to be lightand saltto those around us. The Lord wants his love and truth to shine through us that others may see the goodness and truth of Gods mes- sage of salvation. Ask the Lord to fill you with Holy Spirit that you may radiate the joy of the gospel to those around you. The Lord gives us his Holy Spirit to be our strength and guide and our consoler in temptation and testing. God the Father is ready to give us all that we need to live in his way of love and righteousness. Lord, fill us with your Holy Spirit and inflame our heart with the joy of the gospel. May we find joy in seeking to please you just as you found joy in seeking to please your Father. Religious Freedom Corner Each year since 1992, the President of the United States has des-ignated January 16th as National Religious Freedom Day, calling upon Americans to "observe this day through appropriate events and activities in homes, schools, and places of worship." On this date in 1786, the Virginia General Assembly adopted the Vir-ginia Statute of Religious Freedom, considered by many histori-ans as the basis for the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious

liberty. Please join the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholics for Freedom of Reli-gion ministry in St. Mary’s Hall at 7 PM, January 15, 2015, the eve of National Religious Freedom Day, for a special presentation by Deacon Bob Gorman entitled A Tale of Two Millennia: Chris-tianity and the Birth of Religious Liberty. Learn more about your religious liberty and its significance as your first and most important freedom.
