hen I think of the Millenial generation, I think ofpeople who like shiny new technology, adventurebigger than their history and things they can getfor free. While adventure comes free, shiny newtechnology usually doesntbut sometimes the

things that the technology provides you does.Your mind might have just jumped to illegal downloading,

but there are lots of legitimate ways to nd some of yourfavorite media for free. The music industry has provided uswith several options: Pandora, Grooveshark and now Spotifyare some of the most popular websites that provide consumerswith music in return for advertisements.

Similarly, there are plenty of options for nding your favoritemovies for free. The rst, least expected, a nd probably mostreliable is the library. Thats right, the place where they putthose old paper things your grandmother used before youbought her a Kindle for Christmas. Libraries have a large stockof movies in Blu-ray, DVD and VHS (if youre in your parentsbasement and they wont give you anything but the VCR). Evenif you cant nd the movie that youre looking for, chances arepretty good that your local library could get it from anotherlibrary in its network.

There are some lms available online. A surprising numberof independent lmmakers put up good movies on theirwebsites or their Vimeo or YouTube accounts, so if youre up forexploration you could uncover some gems with just a little bitof digging.

YouTube and Hulu also have full-length movies availableas a sub-category of videos, in genres and styles ranging thefull spectrum of movie history. Crackle (www.crackle.com) isanother online movie service that provides internet users withfree, legal access to movies.

Usually your cable provider provides online access to someTV and movie services as well. This allows you to access lmsremotely from your laptopor, perhaps more importantlyfor the college students, to access lms on your parents homecable account remotely from your laptop. Check with yourprovider to see if they have a login available for you.

Why all of the free legal movies, you ask? That depends.

Usually, online sites will balance movies with advertisementsin order to keep their audience and their revenues coming.Sometimes new lmmakers, or experienced lmmakerstesting out new lms, provide lms just for the opportunity ofexposure and feedback. Cable companies recognize the powerof the internet and are trying to learn how to c ash in on thatvalue, and libraries are, as always, in the beautiful business ofproviding resources for the education and entertainment ofthe public.

So get yourself a library card, a laptop or some other sort ofshiny new technology and nd a free lm that will paint yourpicture of adventure.

    W

hen some people discover they have limited time to live, they seek out adventure, reconciliation

or romance. When Walter White nds out he has lung cancer, he looks for nancial stability for

his family. As a high school chemistry teacher, his salary hasnt given them much, but it has

given him insight into the most lucrative business he knows: drug dealing. He teams up with

an old student to start his business, and both are drawn into the criminal underworld. The show stars Bryan

Cranston from Malcolm in the Middle, and has won seven Emmys. The fth season began recently on AMC.

Five Ways to Beat Cardio Boredomo you nd yourself doing the same old cardio

routine day after day? Lack of variety in yourexercise program can be tedious, unmotivatingand at out BORING!!!! If you nd yourself fallingvictim to cardio boredom then it is time for a

much needed change.Get creative with your workouts and try any one of these veways to add variety and spice up your workout today.

#1 Add In Intervals:Interval training refers to bouts of higher intensity exerciseinterspersed with periods of lower intensity exercise or rest. One of the great things about interval training is that it canbe used for all of your favorite aerobic exercises, includingwalking/running on a treadmill (or outside), stair climbing, elliptical trainers, swimming or cycling. There is an unlimitednumber of ways you can make cardio intervals dierent. Younever have to do the same workout twice. Intervals can be areal time saver too. No need for a marathon cardio sessionwhen incorporating intervals, 30 minutes will do. In fact, research shows interval training improves tness levelsand burns more calories over a shorter period of time thantraditional steady state aerobics. Here are a few sampleinterval workouts to get you started.

    A) Standard Workout:Alternate between high intensity and low intensity intervals.-5 minute warm-up (start light and gradually increase theintensity at the end of the warm-up period)-alternate 1 minute higher intensity work with 1 minute oflower intensity (or rest), repeat 8-10 times-5 minute cool-down (lower the intensity, and continue to

decrease by the end of the cool-down period)

    B) Pyramid Workout:The pyramid structure allows you to start with short burst ofspeed, and then you will peak at the longest surge of energyin the middle of your workout before coming back down.-5 minute warm-up-30 seconds high intensity, 1 min. low intensity-45 seconds high intensity, 1 min. low intensity-60 seconds high intensity, 1 min. low intensity-90 seconds high intensity, 1 min. low intensity-60 seconds high intensity, 1 min. low intensity-45 seconds high intensity, 1 min. low intensity-30 seconds high intensity, 1 min. low intensity-5 minute cool-down

#2 Mix It In:Try incorporating short cardio segments into your resistancetraining routine. For example, between sets jump on atreadmill or stepmill for 2 minutes then head back to yourweight workout. Or, if you want to avoid cardio machinesall together, add in 30-60 seconds of jumping jacks, jumprope, mountain climbers, burpees, jump squats, etc. intoyour weight routine. This is another great option when youreshort on time but want to squeeze in both weight trainingand cardio.

    #3 Try a Class:

Most gyms oer group tness classes and often they arefree of charge. Spin, Zumba and card kickboxing are all greatalternatives to the normal cardio routines. Most classes lastabout an hour and are over and done before you know it. Trya dierent class each week to add variety or to nd the classthat best suits you. Pick up a schedule the next time yourein the gym.

#4 The 6-5-4 Plan:Start by picking three dierent cardio machines. For example, begin on the treadmill, walk or jog for 6 minutes. Then headstraight to the stepmill and complete 5 minutes there. Laststop is the bike, where you will nish with a 4 minutes ride.Repeat two times through, and before you know it you willhave knocked out 30 minutes of exercise. If youre in the moodfor a longer cardio session complete the plan 3 times throughor increase the time segments to your desired duration.

#5 Take It Outside:Take your workout outdoors. Find an empty parking lot, school track, stadium stairs or open eld. Design yourworkout with sprints, foot drills, pushups, crunches, squats, lunges and more. Here is a sample track/stadium workoutto try.

    *Sample workout*

Track Set:-5 minute warm-up (light jog around track)- run 1/4 mile (1 lap around track)-4 x 100 meter sprints (sprint then walk back to starting line,

repeat 3 more times)-run 1/4 mile-2 x 100 meter sprints with lunges (sprint then lunge backto starting line)

Stadium Set:-2 x stair sprints-1 x walking stairs, skipping every other step-25 bodyweight squats-15 push-ups*repeat for a total of 3 times through-5 minute cool-down (head back to the track, walk 1/4 mile)

    D

When you start cardio, start slow.

Dont overdo your heart or your

    muscles.

Always look up new short exercises

you can do to add variety.

If you use weights, use light

weights and high reps to adddenition to your muscles.

    Using your body weight as

    resistance can also increase muscle

denition as well as burning fat,

working out cardio and muscle at

    the same time.

Opportunity (and Cooking!) AwaitsLooking forward to a new article and a new writer.

    By KelliNicole

Who doesnt like a good article on food? People with notastebuds, thats who!

With the expansion ofBoyd Street Magazines big brother,Main Street Magazine, we have decided to venture out intothe increasingly popular unknown: the cooking world.

More and more people each day are become aware of foodculture. Does that mean in a few decades, we will all be awareof the delicacies that lie around us? Absolutely not. There willalways be that one person who cant live without the Big Mac,the simple mac n cheese from a box or the microwave dinner.

However, that does not mean we are all like that, am I right? As I grew older, and started living on my own, cooking becamean adventure. I could do whatever I wanted with whateveringredients I felt like using. If I wanted to use cauliower, Icould. If I wanted to eat homemade hummus, I would. If Iwanted to bake mozzarella sticks, by George you werent goingto stop me!

Its become a passion of mine to learn about all forms ofcooking, whether it be frying, baking, sauteeing, steaming,or pureeing. I want to learn about all types of cuisine: Asian,Carribean, Mexican, Spanish, Thai, Indian and even good old-fashioned American food.

Its exciting to know that I can teach myself these things by

just a simple click on the internet, sending me o into an arenawhere millions of people trying the same thing Im trying, asking the same questions Im asking. But theres something

about using the internet to cook thats just a little detached tome. I like to have papers, recipe cards that my grandmother, oreven my great-grandmother passed down in our family. Its likea secret I get to keep.

One thing Ive learned since Pinterest has entered my life is thatrecipes are endless. People change them to meet their dietaryneeds, omit things because they dont like the taste or makechanges just out of curiosity. Food blogs have also opened upa huge door of opportunity, giving people the chance to try avariety of interesting recipes that were previously inaccessible.

The unfortunate yet sometimes fantastic thing about food

blogs is that most of the people Ive personally come acrosshave been across the country, or even the world. There are somepretty fantastic chefs and bakers right in our own backyard, we

just have to seek them out!

Im hoping with this cooking article, Ill be able to explore thecooking world around Norman, showing people that its not toohard to try a new recipe. There are so many local establishmentswho are willing to give some of their greatest cooking tips toreaders, even though sometimes its just more fun to go outand purchase that delicious looking cupcake from a bakery, orbuy those homemade trues with fabulous unique avors.Ill be exploring Normans best and most unique, give readersa chance to explore something new in the food and cookingworld. Who knows, you might even nd a niche!

    Read Cookbook RecipesThrough Completely

When cooking using arecipe, it is important

to read the recipe in itsentirety beore you evenbegin cooking. This way,you know you have all othe tools and ingredientsyou need beore you even

list the ingredients inorder o use; however, not all recipes doso. Measurementsare important and

Predictions for the Big 12Whats gonna happen this year? Heres an idea ...

You can follow Chris Joseph on ...

    @chrisjoseph1400

And listen to his show 360 Sports on Sports Talk 1400from 5-7 P.M. Monday through Friday.

he preseason polls have been released in the Big 12 and the preseason All-

Conference teams have been named. I am in Dallas for Big 12 Media Days,

the unocial start of the upcoming football season. So heres my shot at

prognostication for the conference and what I think will happen during this football

    season.

First of all the Big 12 says goodbye to Missouri and Texas A&M good luck being

mid level teams in the SEC just like you were in the Big 12. West Virginia and Texas

Christian take their place, and I feel the Big 12 is now stronger for the addition of the two

new schools. If you want to know how big these two schools impact on the conference

will be, you can look at the preseason All-Conference team, and the quarterback for the

West Virginia Mountaineers, Geno Smith, is being chosen as the Oensive Player of the

Year. Seven people who voted in the preseason poll have the Neers as the conferencechampions November 17th is going to be fun in Morgantown.

Looking at the body of the conference and how it could shake out, The Sooners are the

clear-cut favorite and should make another trip to a BCS Bowl. Sooner fans can rest on

little nuggets, like the Sooners have never notwon the conference title in back to back

years so after not winning last year, as history goes you can expect the Sooners to

    win the Big 12.

Now West Virginia will be a tough challenge for the spot and being that the Sooners

must travel to Morgantown makes it even tougher. If all goes well and both teams

reach that November 17th matchup undefeated it will be a matchup of top ve teams

and what should be front runners for the Heisman in Landry Jones and Smith.

So in my preseason poll I have the Sooners nishing rst and the Neers nishing

second. This is where it gets interesting. A lot of teams are v ying for that third to sixth

or seventh spot. Texas could be that team; the Longhorns have a stout defense coming

back, but again the lack of a leader at quarterback will be a huge question mark for the

Horns and head coach Mack Brown. The Horns running game will be led by Malcolm

Brown and a big oensive line, but will David Ash or Case McCoy be the leader the

    Horns need?

TCU comes into the Big 12 with a chip on their shoulder, with people saying they

have not played tough schedules before now. The Horned Frogs respond with beating

Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl and beating Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. Head Coac

Gary Patterson had a nasty drug incident to deal with in the o-season, but he ha

returning quarterback Casey Pachall back to lead the Frogs oense.

Oklahoma State comes in o its best season EVER but gone are rst-round draftee

quarterback Brandon Weedon and Justin Blackmon. Joseph Randle is a dominate bac

and joined by Jeremy Smith make up the best one-two punch of running backs in th

league. Starting a freshman at QB Wes Lunt will be tricky for coach Mike Gundy, bu

they named Lunt early in spring so he must have what it takes. The defensive side of th

ball is where the Cowboys will be strongest this year with two lock down corner back

in Brodrick Brown and Justin Gilbert. Will this be a return to what we know is Cowbo

football or will this program continue to rise?

The other teams will be ghting to ll in the Big 12 standings. Kansas State will b

led by the poor mans Tim Tebow in Collin Klein but will ten wins be in the cards for th

Wildcats again? In Waco gone is RG 3 and a potent oense. Senior and former starte

Nick Florence looks to lead the Bears and they could surprise some people. Texas Tech

and Iowa State both scored huge upset victories last year but a return to the bottom o

the barrel is likely in the future for them as well as the Kansas Jayhawks.

So this is my prediction of the nal standings in the Big 12 this football season:

    1.Oklahoma Sooners

    2. West Virginia Mountaineers

    3. TCU Horned Frogs

    4. Texas Longhorns

    5. Oklahoma State Cowboys

    6. Kansas State Wildcats

    7. Baylor Bears

    8. Iowa State Cyclones

    9. Texas Tech Red Raiders

    10. Kansas Jayhawks
