1st FRIDAY, MARCH 31st We will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Friday beginning with Mass at 7:30 am and ending with Benedic-tion at 12:00 pm. We will continue with our Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on First Fridays beginning at the 7:30 am Mass, Benediction at 12:00 pm, and Adoration until the 5:00 pm Mass.

CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT The future king, David, in today's first reading, is an example of a type of char-acter present throughout the Hebrew scriptures. He is the child born out of place (not the eldest or most favored) who ends up receiving the promise of the covenant. The spirit of God's anoint-ing rushes upon him. In this way, he is similar to the man born blind from to-day's Gospel. David's family and the blind man's community did not expect the miraculous grace of God's love to work through them. Perhaps they, too, were "blinded" by the expectations and assumptions of those around them. Yet, after being touched by God, they both came to "see" the presence of God's will for them. Both became messengers of God's will. That same Spirit of God's anointing rushed upon us at our baptism; we were given a candle as a sign of our membership in the Body of Christ, the Light from Light. HIJOS DE LA LUZ El futuro rey, David, en la primera lec-tura de hoy, es un ejemplo de un tipo de personaje presente a lo largo de las escri-turas hebreas. Es el hijo que nace fuera de lugar (no es ni el mayor ni el prefer-ido) pero a fin de cuentas recibe la promesa de la alianza. El espíritu de Dios lo llena con su unción. En esto, se parece al hombre que nació ciego del Evangelio de hoy. La familia de David y la comunidad del ciego no esperaban que la gracia milagrosa del amor de Dios obrara por medio de ellos. Quizás ellos, también, estaban "ciegos" por las expec-tativas y suposiciones de los que los rodeaban. Sin embargo, luego de ser tocados por Dios, ambos "vieron" la presencia de la voluntad de Dios para ellos. Ambos se convirtieron en men-sajeros de la voluntad de Dios. Ese mis-mo Espíritu de unción de Dios nos llenó en nuestro bautismo; se nos dio un cirio como símbolo de que somos miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo, la Luz de la Luz. Vị giám mục từng là thợ lau cửa kính

Đức hồng y Miloslav Vlk, nguyên tổng giám mục Praha (Prague), Cộng hòa Czech, người từng phải hoạt động trong âm thầm suốt mười năm dưới chế độ cộng sản, đã từ trần vì bệnh ung thư, vào thứ Bảy, 18 tháng Ba, thọ 84 tuổi.

“Vị tổng giám mục từng làm thợ lau cửa kính”, tên một quyển sách của Alain Boudré, do Nhà xuất bản Nouvelle Cité ấn hành năm 1994, thuật lại số phận lạ kỳ của ngài.

Đức cố hồng y sinh năm 1932, chịu chức linh mục năm 1968, thuộc giáo phận České Budějovice, Cộng hòa Czech. Giáo hội Công giáo trở thành đối tượng bị bách hại nặng nề sau khi cộng sản cướp chính quyền năm 1948. Tháng Sáu 1948, ngài mới được chịu chức linh mục khi đã 36 tuổi, nhân thời kỳ “tan băng”ngắn ngủi, được gọi là “Mùa xuân Praha.”

Tầm ảnh hưởng của ngài khiến nhà cầm quyền cộng sản không hài lòng nên đã ép chuyển ngài đến vùng miền núi hẻo lánh năm 1971. Thậm chí năm 1978, chính quyền đã cấm ngài thi hành sứ vụ linh mục. Ngài phải bí mật làm mục vụ trong suốt 10 năm và hành nghề lau cửa kính.

Mãi đến năm 1989, ngài mới được công khai làm mục vụ. Ngài được Tòa thánh bổ nhiệm làm giám mục České Budějovice năm 1990, và năm sau làm tổng giám mục Praha. Từ 1992 đến 2001, ngài làm chủ tịch Hội đồng Giám mục Czech. Từ 1993 đến 2001, kiêm nhiệm chủ tịch Liên Hội đồng Giám mục Âu châu. Tại Công nghị hồng y ngày 26-11-1994, Đgh. Gioan Phaolô II đặt ngài làm hồng y.

Cho đến khi từ nhiệm tổng giám mục Praha năm 2010, Đức cố hồng y không ngừng tranh đấu cho Giáo hội. Ngài phát biểu trên tờ La Croix năm 2009: “Người ta cho rằng chúng tôi muốn tìm lại thế lực. Thật ra chế độ cộng sản đã hủy diệt mọi ý nghĩ về quyền và sự công bằng trên đất nước này. Chúng tôi chỉ đòi hỏi sự tôn trọng quyền lợi và lẽ công bằng mà thôi!” Đức cố hồng y nói thêm, thể hiện niềm xác tín vào lý tưởng đã hướng dẫn toàn bộ cuộc sống của ngài.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and Children Three rituals, known as scrutinies, are normally celebrated at Mass on the third, fourth, and fifth Sundays of Lent. The scrutinies are rites for self-searching and repentance. They are meant to bring out the qualities of the catechumen’s soul, to heal those qualities which are weak or sinful, and to strengthen those that are positive and good. During this period, the catechumens are formally presented with the Apostles’ Creed and the Lord’s Prayer, which they will recite on the night their spirit is filled with Christ the Redeemer, the Light of the World (gospel of the man born blind in the second scrutiny). Rito de Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos y Niños En este tiempo, la Iglesia invita a los fieles a profundizar en el sentido de su iniciación cristiana por el bautismo, la confirmación y la primera comunión. A los catecúmenos, se les invita a culminar su preparación para recibir la iniciación cristiana en la vigilia pascual. A partir del tercer domingo de cuaresma, los escrutinios, riguroso examen sobre el tenor de la fe de la Iglesia, en la que se va a participar por los sacramentos de iniciación cristiana. La unción con el óleo de los catecúmenos les da la fuerza para renunciar a los ídolos que los han esclavizados con el pecado. Constituye un verdadero exorcismo, que les permitirá, en el bautismo, la confirmación y la primera comunión, despojarse del hombre viejo y revestirse del nuevo. Los escrutinios tratan de prepararlos para este rito. Si no los aprueban no pueden recibir el bautismo.

Durante este tiempo, los catecúmenos reciban el Credo de los Apóstoles y la Oración del Señor. Recitarán las oraciones en la Vigilia Pascual, cuado Jesús Cristo los vendrán (el Evangelio de un hombre que era ciego de nacimiento esta parte del Segundo escrutinio).
